וַיְהִ֥י דְבַר־שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל לְכָל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיֵּצֵ֣א יִשְׂרָאֵל֩ לִקְרַ֨את פְּלִשְׁתִּ֜ים לַמִּלְחָמָ֗ה וַֽיַּחֲנוּ֙ עַל הָ־אֶ֣בֶן הָעֵ֔זֶר וּפְלִשְׁתִּ֖ים חָנ֥וּ בַאֲפֵֽק׃

Καὶ ἐγενήθη ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις καὶ συναθροίζονται ἀλλόφυλοι εἰς πόλεμον ἐπὶ Ἰσραήλ · καὶ ἐξῆλθεν Ἰσραὴλ εἰς ἀπάντησιν αὐτοῖς εἰς πόλεμον, καὶ παρεμβάλλουσιν ἐπὶ Ἀβενέζερ, καὶ οἱ ἀλλόφυλοι παρεμβάλλουσιν ἐν Ἀφέκ.

Et factum est in diébus illis, convenérunt Philísthiim in pugnam: et egréssus est Israel óbviam Philísthiim in prœ́lium, et castrametátus est iuxta Lápidem adiutórii. Porro Philísthiim venérunt in Aphec

And the word of Samuel came to all Israel. Now Israel went out against the Philistines to battle, and pitched beside Ebenezer: and the Philistines pitched in Aphek.

וַיַּעַרְכ֨וּ פְלִשְׁתִּ֜ים לִקְרַ֣את יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל וַתִּטֹּשׁ֙ הַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה וַיִּנָּ֥גֶף יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לִפְנֵ֣י פְלִשְׁתִּ֑ים וַיַּכּ֤וּ בַמַּֽעֲרָכָה֙ בַּשָּׂדֶ֔ה כְּאַרְבַּ֥עַת אֲלָפִ֖ים אִֽישׁ׃

καὶ παρατάσσονται οἱ ἀλλόφυλοι εἰς πόλεμον ἐπὶ Ἰσραήλ · καὶ ἔκλινεν πόλεμος, καὶ ἔπταισεν ἀνὴρ Ἰσραὴλ ἐνώπιον ἀλλοφύλων, καὶ ἐπλήγησαν ἐν τῇ παρατάξει ἐν ἀγρῷ τέσσαρες χιλιάδες ἀνδρῶν.

וַיָּבֹ֣א הָעָם֮ אֶל הַֽ־מַּחֲנֶה֒ וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ זִקְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לָ֣מָּה נְגָפָ֧נוּ יְהוָ֛ה הַיּ֖וֹם לִפְנֵ֣י פְלִשְׁתִּ֑ים נִקְחָ֧ה אֵלֵ֣ינוּ מִשִּׁלֹ֗ה אֶת־אֲרוֹן֙ בְּרִ֣ית יְהוָ֔ה וְיָבֹ֣א בְקִרְבֵּ֔נוּ וְיֹשִׁעֵ֖נוּ מִכַּ֥ף אֹיְבֵֽינוּ׃

καὶ ἦλθεν λαὸς εἰς τὴν παρεμβολήν, καὶ εἶπαν οἱ πρεσβύτεροι Ἰσραήλ Κατὰ τί ἔπταισεν ἡμᾶς Κύριος σήμερον ἐνώπιον ἀλλοφύλων; λάβωμεν τὴν κιβωτὸν τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν ἐκ Σηλώμ, καὶ ἐξελθέτω ἐκ μέσου ἡμῶν καὶ σώσει ὑμᾶς ἐκ χειρὸς ἐχθρῶν ἡμῶν.

Et revérsus est pópulus ad castra: dixerúntque maióres natu de Israel: Quare percússit nos Dóminus hódie coram Philísthiim? afferámus ad nos de Silo arcam fœ́deris Dómini, et véniat in médium nostri, ut salvet nos de manu inimicórum nostrórum.

And when the people were come into the camp, the elders of Israel said, Wherefore hath the LORD smitten us to day before the Philistines? Let us fetch the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of Shiloh unto us, that, when it cometh among us, it may save us out of the hand of our enemies.

So the people sent to Shiloh, that they might bring from thence the ark of the covenant of the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth [between] the cherubims: and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, [were] there with the ark of the covenant of God.

καὶ ἤκουσαν οἱ ἀλλόφυλοι τῆς κραυγῆς, καὶ εἶπον οἱ ἀλλόφυλοι Τίς κραυγὴ μεγάλη αὕτη ἐν παρεμβολῇ τῶν Ἐβραίων; καὶ ἔγνωσαν ὅτι κιβωτὸς Κυρίου ἥκει εἰς τὴν παρεμβολήν.

Et audiérunt Philísthiim vocem clamóris, dixerúntque: Quænam est hæc vox clamóris magni in castris Hebræórum? Et cognovérunt quod arca Dómini venísset in castra.

And when the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, What [meaneth] the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews? And they understood that the ark of the LORD was come into the camp.

καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν οἱ ἀλλόφυλοι καὶ εἶπον Οὗτοι οἱ θεοὶ ἥκασιν πρὸς αὐτοὺς εἰς τὴν παρεμβολήν · οὐαὶ ἡμῖν · ἐξελοῦ ἡμᾶς, Κύριε, σήμερον, ὅτι οὐ γέγονεν τοιαύτη ἐχθὲς καὶ τρίτην.

οὐαὶ ἡμῖν, τίς ἐξελεῖται ἡμᾶς ἐκ χειρὸς τῶν θεῶν τῶν στερεῶν τούτων; οὗτοι οἱ θεοὶ οἱ πατάξαντες τὴν Αἴγυπτον ἐν πάσῃ πληγῇ καὶ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ.

καὶ ἤκουσεν Ἠλεὶ τὴν φωνὴν τῆς βοῆς καὶ εἶπεν Τίς βοὴ τῆς φωνῆς ταύτης; καὶ ἄνθρωπος σπεύσας εἰσῆλθεν καὶ ἀπήγγειλεν τῷ Ἠλεί.

וְעֵלִ֕י בֶּן־תִּשְׁעִ֥ים וּשְׁמֹנֶ֖ה שָׁנָ֑ה וְעֵינָ֣יו קָ֔מָה וְלֹ֥א יָכ֖וֹל לִרְאֽוֹת׃

καὶ Ἠλεὶ υἱὸς ἐνενήκοντα ἐτῶν, καὶ οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτοῦ ἐπανέστησαν καὶ οὐκ ἔβλεπεν · καὶ εἶπεν Ἠλεὶ τοῖς ἀνδράσιν τοῖς περιεστηκόσιν αὐτῷ Τίς φωνὴ τοῦ ἤχους τούτου;

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר הָאִ֜ישׁ אֶל־עֵלִ֗י אָֽנֹכִי֙ הַבָּ֣א מִן הַ־מַּעֲרָכָ֔ה וַאֲנִ֕י מִן הַ־מַּעֲרָכָ֖ה נַ֣סְתִּי הַיּ֑וֹם וַיֹּ֛אמֶר מֶֽה־הָיָ֥ה הַדָּבָ֖ר בְּנִֽי׃

καὶ ἀνὴρ σπεύσας προσῆλθεν Ἠλεὶ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ἐγώ εἰμι ἥκων ἐκ τῆς παρεμβολῆς, κἀγὼ πέφευγα ἐκ τῆς παρατάξεως σήμερον. καὶ εἶπεν Τί τὸ γεγονὸς ῥῆμα, τέκνον.

Et dixit ad Heli: Ego sum qui veni de prœ́lio, et ego qui de ácie fugi hódie. Cui ille ait: Quid actum est fili mi?

וַיַּ֨עַן הַֽמְבַשֵּׂ֜ר וַיֹּ֗אמֶר נָ֤ס יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ לִפְנֵ֣י פְלִשְׁתִּ֔ים וְגַ֛ם מַגֵּפָ֥ה גְדוֹלָ֖ה הָיְתָ֣ה בָעָ֑ם וְגַם־שְׁנֵ֨י בָנֶ֜יךָ מֵ֗תוּ חָפְנִי֙ וּפִ֣ינְחָ֔ס וַאֲר֥וֹן הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים נִלְקָֽחָה׃ פ

καὶ ἀπεκρίθη τὸ παιδάριον καὶ εἶπεν Πέφευγεν ἀνὴρ Ἰσραὴλ ἐκ προσώπου ἀλλοφύλων, καὶ ἐγένετο πληγὴ μεγάλη ἐν τῷ λαῷ, καὶ ἀμφότεροι οἱ υἱοί σου τεθνήκασιν, καὶ κιβωτὸς τοῦ θεοῦ ἐλήμφθη.

Respóndens autem ille, qui nuntiábat, Fugit, inquit, Israel coram Philísthiim, et ruína magna facta est in pópulo: ínsuper et duo fílii tui mórtui sunt, Ophni et Phínees, et arca Dei capta est.

וַיְהִ֞י כְּהַזְכִּיר֣וֹ ׀ אֶת־אֲר֣וֹן הָאֱלֹהִ֗ים וַיִּפֹּ֣ל מֵֽעַל הַ֠־כִּסֵּא אֲחֹ֨רַנִּ֜ית בְּעַ֣ד ׀ יַ֣ד הַשַּׁ֗עַר וַתִּשָּׁבֵ֤ר מַפְרַקְתּוֹ֙ וַיָּמֹ֔ת כִּֽי־זָקֵ֥ן הָאִ֖ישׁ וְכָבֵ֑ד וְה֛וּא שָׁפַ֥ט אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל אַרְבָּעִ֥ים שָׁנָֽה׃

καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἐμνήσθη τῆς κιβωτοῦ τοῦ θεοῦ, καὶ ἔπεσεν ἀπὸ τοῦ δίφρου ὀπισθίως ἐχόμενος τῆς πύλης, καὶ συνετρίβη νῶτος αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀπέθανεν, ὅτι πρεσβύτης ἄνθρωπος καὶ βαρύς · καὶ αὐτὸς ἔκρινεν τὸν Ἰσραὴλ εἴκοσι ἔτη.

Cumque ille nominásset arcam Dei, cécidit de sella retrórsum iuxta óstium, et fractis cervícibus mórtuus est. Senex enim erat vir et grandǽvus: et ipse iudicávit Israel quadragínta annis.

And it came to pass, when he made mention of the ark of God, that he fell from off the seat backward by the side of the gate, and his neck brake, and he died: for he was an old man, and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years.

וְכַלָּת֣וֹ אֵֽשֶׁת־פִּינְחָס֮ הָרָ֣ה לָלַת֒ וַתִּשְׁמַ֣ע אֶת הַ־שְּׁמֻעָ֔ה אֶל־הִלָּקַח֙ אֲר֣וֹן הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים וּמֵ֥ת חָמִ֖יהָ וְאִישָׁ֑הּ וַתִּכְרַ֣ע וַתֵּ֔לֶד כִּֽי־נֶהֶפְכ֥וּ עָלֶ֖יהָ צִרֶֽיהָ׃

Καὶ νύμφη αὐτοῦ γυνὴ Φεινεὲς συνειληφυῖα τοῦ τεκεῖν · καὶ ἤκουσεν τὴν ἀγγελίαν ὅτι ἐλήμφθη κιβωτὸς τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ ὅτι τέθνηκεν πενθερὸς αὐτῆς καὶ ἀνὴρ αὐτῆς, καὶ ἔκλαυσεν καὶ ἔτεκεν, ὅτι ἐπεστράφησαν ἐπ᾽ αὐτὴν ὠδῖνες αὐτῆς.

וּכְעֵ֣ת מוּתָ֗הּ וַתְּדַבֵּ֨רְנָה֙ הַנִּצָּב֣וֹת עָלֶ֔יהָ אַל־תִּֽירְאִ֖י כִּ֣י בֵ֣ן יָלָ֑דְתְּ וְלֹ֥א עָנְתָ֖ה וְלֹא־שָׁ֥תָה לִבָּֽהּ׃
