כִּֽי־יִהְיֶ֥ה רִיב֙ בֵּ֣ין אֲנָשִׁ֔ים וְנִגְּשׁ֥וּ אֶל הַ־מִּשְׁפָּ֖ט וּשְׁפָט֑וּם וְהִצְדִּ֨יקוּ֙ אֶת הַ־צַּדִּ֔יק וְהִרְשִׁ֖יעוּ אֶת הָ־רָשָֽׁע׃
1
Ἐὰν δὲ γένηται ἀντιλογία ἀνὰ μέσον ἀνθρώπων, καὶ προσέλθωσιν εἰς κρίσιν, καὶ δικαιώσωσιν τὸ δίκαιον καὶ καταγνῶσιν τοῦ ἀσεβοῦς ·

Si fúerit causa inter áliquos, et interpelláverint iúdices: quem iustum esse perspéxerint, illi iustítiæ palmam dabunt: quem ímpium, condemnábunt impietátis.

כי־יהיה ריב בין אנשׁים ונגשׁו אל המשׁפט ושׁפטום והצדיקו את הצדיק והרשׁיעו את הרשׁע
1
If there be a controversy between men, and they come unto judgment, that [the judges] may judge them; then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked.

וְהָיָ֛ה אִם־בִּ֥ן הַכּ֖וֹת הָרָשָׁ֑ע וְהִפִּיל֤וֹ הַשֹּׁפֵט֙ וְהִכָּ֣הוּ לְפָנָ֔יו כְּדֵ֥י רִשְׁעָת֖וֹ בְּמִסְפָּֽר׃

καὶ ἔσται ἐὰν ἄξιος ᾖ πληγῶν ὁ ἀσεβῶν, καθιεῖς αὐτὸν ἐναντίον αὐτῶν.

Sin autem eum, qui peccávit, dignum víderint plagis: prostérnent, et coram se fácient verberári. Pro mensúra peccáti erit et plagárum modus:

והיה אם־בן הכות הרשׁע והפילו השׁופט והכהו לפניו כדי רשׁעתו במספר
2
And it shall be, if the wicked man [be] worthy to be beaten, that the judge shall cause him to lie down, and to be beaten before his face, according to his fault, by a certain number.

καὶ ἀριθμῷ τεσσεράκοντα μαστιγώσουσιν αὐτόν, οὐ προσθήσουσιν · ἐὰν δὲ προσθῇς μαστιγῶσαι ὑπὲρ ταύτας τὰς πληγὰς πλείους, ἀσχημονήσει ὁ ἀδελφός σου ἐναντίον σου.

ita dumtáxat, ut quadragenárium númerum non excédant: ne fœde lacerátus ante óculos tuos ábeat frater tuus.

ארבעים יכנו לא יסף פן יסף להכותו על־אלה מכה רבה ונקל אחיך לעיניך
3
Forty stripes he may give him, [and] not exceed: lest, [if] he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then thy brother should seem vile unto thee.

כִּֽי־יֵשְׁב֨וּ אַחִ֜ים יַחְדָּ֗ו וּמֵ֨ת אַחַ֤ד מֵהֶם֙ וּבֵ֣ן אֵֽין ל֔־וֹ לֹֽא־תִהְיֶ֧ה אֵֽשֶׁת הַ־מֵּ֛ת הַח֖וּצָה לְאִ֣ישׁ זָ֑ר יְבָמָהּ֙ יָבֹ֣א עָלֶ֔יהָ וּלְקָחָ֥הּ ל֛וֹ לְאִשָּׁ֖ה וְיִבְּמָֽהּ׃

Ἐὰν δὲ κατοικῶσιν ἀδελφοὶ ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτό, καὶ ἀποθάνῃ εἷς αὐτῶν, σπέρμα δὲ μὴ ἦν αὐτῷ, οὐκ ἔσται ἡ γυνὴ τοῦ τεθνηκότος ἔξω ἀνδρὶ μὴ ἐγγίζοντι · ὁ ἀδελφὸς τοῦ ἀνδρὸς αὐτῆς εἰσελεύσεται πρὸς αὐτὴν καὶ λήμψεται αὐτὴν ἑαυτῷ γυναῖκα καὶ συνοικήσει αὐτῇ.

Quando habitáverint fratres simul, et unus ex eis absque líberis mórtuus fúerit, uxor defúncti non nubet álteri: sed accípiet eam frater eius, et suscitábit semen fratris sui:

כי־ישׁבו אחים יחדו ומת אחד מהם ובן אין לו לא־תהיה אשׁת המת החוצה לאישׁ זר יבמה יבוא אליה ולקחה לו לאשׁה ויבמה
5
If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a stranger: her husband ’s brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband ’s brother unto her.

καὶ ἔσται τὸ παιδίον ὃ ἐὰν τέκῃ κατασταθήσεται ἐκ τοῦ ὀνόματος τοῦ τετελευτηκότος, καὶ οὐκ ἐξαλειφθήσεται τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ ἐξ Ἰσραήλ.

et primogénitum ex ea fílium nómine illíus appellábit, ut non deleátur nomen eius ex Israel.

והיה הבן הבכור אשׁר תלד יקום על־שׁם אחיו המת ולא־ימחה שׁמו מישׂראל
6
And it shall be, [that] the firstborn which she beareth shall succeed in the name of his brother [which is] dead, that his name be not put out of Israel.

וְאִם־לֹ֤א יַחְפֹּץ֙ הָאִ֔ישׁ לָקַ֖חַת אֶת יְבִמְתּ֑־וֹ וְעָלְתָה֩ יְבִמְתּ֨וֹ הַשַּׁ֜עְרָה אֶל הַ־זְּקֵנִ֗ים וְאָֽמְרָה֙ מֵאֵ֨ין יְבָמִ֜י לְהָקִ֨ים לְאָחִ֥יו שֵׁם֙ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לֹ֥א אָבָ֖ה יַבְּמִֽי׃

ἐὰν δὲ μὴ βούληται ὁ ἄνθρωπος λαβεῖν τὴν γυναῖκα τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἀναβήσεται ἡ γυνὴ ἐπὶ τὴν πύλην ἐπὶ τὴν γερουσίαν καὶ ἐρεῖ Οὐ θέλει ὁ ἀδελφὸς τοῦ ἀνδρός μου ἀναστῆσαι τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ αὐτοῦ ἐν Ἰσραήλ · οὐκ ἠθέλησεν ὁ ἀδελφὸς τοῦ ἀνδρός μου.

Sin autem nolúerit accípere uxórem fratris sui, quæ ei lege debétur, perget múlier ad portam civitátis, et interpellábit maióres natu, dicétque: Non vult frater viri mei suscitáre nomen fratris sui in Israel, nec me in cóniugem súmere.

ואם־לא יחפץ האישׁ לקחת את יבמתו ועלתה יבמתו השׁערה אל הזקנים ואמרה מאן יבמי להקים לאחיו שׁם בישׂראל לא אבה יבמי
7
And if the man like not to take his brother ’s wife, then let his brother ’s wife go up to the gate unto the elders, and say, My husband ’s brother refuseth to raise up unto his brother a name in Israel, he will not perform the duty of my husband ’s brother.

וְקָֽרְאוּ ל֥־וֹ זִקְנֵי עִיר֖־וֹ וְדִבְּר֣וּ אֵלָ֑יו וְעָמַ֣ד וְאָמַ֔ר לֹ֥א חָפַ֖צְתִּי לְקַחְתָּֽהּ׃

καὶ καλέσουσιν αὐτὸν ἡ γερουσία τῆς πόλεως αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐροῦσιν αὐτῷ, καὶ στὰς εἴπῃ Οὐ βούλομαι λαβεῖν αὐτήν ·

Statímque accersíri eum fácient, et interrogábunt. Si respónderit: Nolo eam uxórem accípere:

וקראו לו זקני עירו ודברו אליו ועמד ואמר לא חפצתי לקחתה

Then the elders of his city shall call him, and speak unto him: and [if] he stand [to it], and say, I like not to take her;

וְנִגְּשָׁ֨ה יְבִמְתּ֣וֹ אֵלָיו֮ לְעֵינֵ֣י הַזְּקֵנִים֒ וְחָלְצָ֤ה נַעֲלוֹ֙ מֵעַ֣ל רַגְל֔וֹ וְיָרְקָ֖ה בְּפָנָ֑יו וְעָֽנְתָה֙ וְאָ֣מְרָ֔ה כָּ֚כָה יֵעָשֶׂ֣ה לָאִ֔ישׁ אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹא־יִבְנֶ֖ה אֶת־בֵּ֥ית אָחִֽיו

καὶ προσελθοῦσα ἡ γυνὴ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ αὐτοῦ ἔναντι τῆς γερουσίας, καὶ ὑπολύσει τὸ ὑπόδημα αὐτοῦ τὸ ἓν ἀπὸ τοῦ ποδὸς αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐμπτύσεται κατὰ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἀποκριθεῖσα ἐρεῖ Οὕτως ποιήσουσιν τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ ὃς οὐκ οἰκοδομήσει τὸν οἶκον τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ αὐτοῦ ἐν Ἰσραήλ ·

accédet múlier ad eum coram senióribus, et tollet calceaméntum de pede eius, spuétque in fáciem illíus, et dicet: Sic fiet hómini, qui non ædíficat domum fratris sui.

ונגשׁה יבמתו אליו לעיני הזקנים וחלצה נעלו מעל רגלו וירקה בפניו וענתה ואמרה ככה יעשׂה לאישׁ אשׁר לא־יבנה את־בית אחיו

Then shall his brother ’s wife come unto him in the presence of the elders, and loose his shoe from off his foot, and spit in his face, and shall answer and say, So shall it be done unto that man that will not build up his brother ’s house.

וְנִקְרָ֥א שְׁמ֖וֹ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל בֵּ֖ית חֲל֥וּץ הַנָּֽעַל׃ ס

καὶ κληθήσεται τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ ἐν Ἰσραὴλ Οἶκος τοῦ ὑπολυθέντος τὸ ὑπόδημα.

Et vocábitur nomen illíus in Israel, Domus discalceáti.

And his name shall be called in Israel, The house of him that hath his shoe loosed.

כִּֽי־יִנָּצ֨וּ אֲנָשִׁ֤ים יַחְדָּו֙ אִ֣ישׁ וְאָחִ֔יו וְקָֽרְבָה֙ אֵ֣שֶׁת הָֽאֶחָ֔ד לְהַצִּ֥יל אֶת אִישָׁ֖־הּ מִיַּ֣ד מַכֵּ֑הוּ וְשָׁלְחָ֣ה יָדָ֔הּ וְהֶחֱזִ֖יקָה בִּמְבֻשָֽׁיו׃
11
Ἐὰν δὲ μάχωνται ἄνθρωποι ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτό, ἄνθρωπος μετὰ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ αὐτοῦ, καὶ προσέλθῃ γυνὴ ἑνὸς αὐτῶν ἐξελέσθαι τὸν ἄνδρα αὐτῆς ἐκ χειρὸς τοῦ τύπτοντος αὐτόν, καὶ ἐκτείνασα τὴν χεῖρα ἐπιλάβηται τῶν διδύμων αὐτοῦ,

Si habúerint inter se iúrgium viri duo, et unus contra álterum rixári cœ́perit, volénsque uxor altérius erúere virum suum de manu fortióris, miserítque manum, et apprehénderit verénda eius:

כי־ינצו אנשׁים יחדו אישׁ ואחיו וקרבה אשׁת אחד להציל את אישׁה מיד מכהו ושׁלחה את ידה והחזיקה בבשׂרו

When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets:

וְקַצֹּתָ֖ה אֶת כַּפָּ֑־הּ לֹ֥א תָח֖וֹס עֵינֶֽךָ׃ ס

ἀποκόψεις τὴν χεῖρα · οὐ φείσεται ὁ ὀφθαλμός σου ἐπ᾽ αὐτῇ.

Then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall not pity [her].

Οὐκ ἔσται σοι ἐν τῷ μαρσίππῳ στάθμιον καὶ στάθμιον, μέγα ἢ μικρόν ·

Non habébis in sácculo divérsa póndera, maius et minus:

לא־יהיה לך בכיסך אבן ואבן גדלה וקטנה

Thou shalt not have in thy bag divers weights, a great and a small.

στάθμιον ἀληθινὸν καὶ δίκαιον ἔσται σοι, ἵνα πολυήμερος γένῃ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἧς Κύριος ὁ θεός σου δίδωσίν σοι ἐν κλήρῳ.

Pondus habébis iustum et verum, et módius æquális et verus erit tibi: ut multo vivas témpore super terram, quam Dóminus Deus tuus déderit tibi.

אבן שׁלמה וצדק יהיה לך איפה שׁלמה וצדק יהיה לך למען יאריכון ימיך על האדמה אשׁר־יהוה אלהיך נתן לך
15
[But] thou shalt have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure shalt thou have: that thy days may be lengthened in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

πῶς ἀντέστη σοι ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ καὶ ἔκοψέν σου τὴν οὐραγίαν, τοὺς κοπιῶντας ὀπίσω σου, σὺ δὲ ἐπείνας καὶ ἐκοπίας, καὶ οὐκ ἐφοβήθη τὸν θεόν ·

quómodo occúrrerit tibi, et extrémos ágminis tui, qui lassi residébant, cecíderit, quando tu eras fame et labóre conféctus: et non timúerit Deum.

אשׁר קרך בדרך ויזנב בך כל הנשׁלים אחריך ואתה עיף ויגע ולא ירא אלהים

How he met thee by the way, and smote the hindmost of thee, [even] all [that were] feeble behind thee, when thou [wast] faint and weary; and he feared not God.

καὶ ἔσται ἡνίκα ἐὰν καταπαύσῃ σε Κύριος ὁ θεός σου ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν ἐχθρῶν σου τῶν κύκλῳ σου ἐν τῇ γῇ ᾗ Κύριος ὁ θεός σου δίδωσίν σοι κληρονομῆσαι, ἐξαλείψεις τὸ ὄνομα Ἀμαλὴκ ἐκ τῆς ὑπὸ τὸν οὐρανόν, καὶ οὐ μὴ ἐπιλάθῃ.

Cum ergo Dóminus Deus tuus déderit tibi réquiem, et subiécerit cunctas per circúitum natiónes in terra, quam tibi pollícitus est: delébis nomen eius sub cælo. Cave ne obliviscáris.

והיה בהניח יהוה אלהיך לך מכל איביך מסביב בארץ אשׁר יהוה אלהיך נתן לך נחלה לרשׁתה תמחה את־זכר עמלק מתחת השׁמים לא תשׁכח

Therefore it shall be, when the LORD thy God hath given thee rest from all thine enemies round about, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee [for] an inheritance to possess it, [that] thou shalt blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; thou shalt not forget [it].
