וְאֵ֗לֶּה שְׁמוֹת֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל הַבָּאִ֖ים מִצְרָ֑יְמָה אֵ֣ת יַעֲקֹ֔ב אִ֥ישׁ וּבֵית֖וֹ בָּֽאוּ׃

ΤΑΥΤΑ τὰ ὀνόματα τῶν υἱῶν Ἰσραὴλ τῶν εἰσπεπορευμένων εἰς Αἴγυπτον ἅμα Ἰακὼβ τῷ πατρὶ αὐτῶν · ἕκαστος πανοικὶ αὐτῶν εἰσήλθοσαν ·

Hæc sunt nómina filiórum Israel qui ingréssi sunt in Ægýptum cum Iacob: sínguli cum dómibus suis introiérunt:

Now these [are] the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt; every man and his household came with Jacob.

Ἰωσὴφ δὲ ἦν ἐν Αἰγύπτῳ · ἦσαν δὲ πᾶσαι ψυχαὶ ἐξ Ἰακὼβ πέντε καὶ ἑβδομήκοντα.

Erant ígitur omnes ánimæ eórum qui egréssi sunt de fémore Iacob, septuagínta: Ioseph autem in Ægýpto erat.

And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls: for Joseph was in Egypt [already].

And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them.

Et ait ad pópulum suum: Ecce, pópulus filiórum Israel multus, et fórtior nobis est.

And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel [are] more and mightier than we:

δεῦτε οὖν κατασοφισώμεθα αὐτούς, μή ποτε πληθυνθῇ, καὶ ἡνίκα ἂν συμβῇ ἡμῖν πόλεμος προστεθήσονται καὶ οὗτοι πρὸς τοὺς ὑπεναντίους, καὶ ἐκπολεμήσαντες ἡμᾶς ἐξελεύσονται ἐκ τῆς γῆς.

Veníte, sapiénter opprimámus eum, ne forte multiplicétur: et si ingrúerit contra nos bellum, addátur inimícis nostris, expugnatísque nobis egrediátur de terra.

הבה נתחכם לו פן־ירבה והיה כי תקראנו מלחמה ונוסף גם־הוא על שׂנאינו ונלחם בנו ועלה מן הארץ
10
Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and [so] get them up out of the land.

καὶ ἐπέστησεν αὐτοῖς ἐπιστάτας τῶν ἔργων, ἵνα κακώσωσιν αὐτοὺς ἐν τοῖς ἔργοις · καὶ ᾠκοδόμησαν πόλεις ὀχυρὰς τῷ Φαραώ, τήν τε Πειθὼ καὶ Ῥαμεσσὴ καὶ Ὤν, ἥ ἐστιν Ἡλίου πόλις.

Præpósuit ítaque eis magístros óperum, ut afflígerent eos onéribus: ædificaverúntque urbes tabernaculórum Pharaóni, Phithom et Ramésses.

וישׂמו עליו שׂרי מסים למען ענותם בסבלותם ויבנו ערי מסכנת לפרעה את פיתון ואת־רעמסס
11
Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses.

καθότι δὲ αὐτοὺς ἐταπείνουν, τοσούτῳ πλείους ἐγίνοντο, καὶ ἴσχυον σφόδρα σφόδρα · καὶ ἐβδελύσσοντο οἱ Αἰγύπτιοι ἀπὸ τῶν υἱῶν Ἰσραήλ.

Quantóque opprimébant eos, tanto magis multiplicabántur, et crescébant:

וכאשׁר יענו אתו כן יפרה וכן יפרץ ויקצו מפני בני ישׂראל

But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel.

And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour:

καὶ κατωδύνων αὐτῶν τὴν ζωὴν ἐν τοῖς ἔργοις τοῖς σκληροῖς, τῷ πηλῷ καὶ τῇ πλινθίᾳ καὶ πᾶσι τοῖς ἔργοις τοῖς ἐν τοῖς πεδίοις, κατὰ πάντα τὰ ἔργα ὧν κατεδουλοῦντο αὐτοὺς μετὰ βίας.

atque ad amaritúdinem perducébant vitam eórum opéribus duris luti, et láteris, omníque famulátu, quo in terræ opéribus premebántur.

וימררו את חייהם בעבדה קשׁה בחימר ובלבנים ובכל־עבדה בשׂדה את כל עבדתם אשׁר־עבדו בהם בפרך
14
And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in morter, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, [was] with rigour.

Καὶ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν Αἰγυπτίων ταῖς μαίαις τῶν Ἐβραίων, τῇ μιᾷ αὐτῶν ᾗ ὄνομα Σεπφωρά, καὶ τὸ ὄνομα τῆς δευτέρας Φουά ·

Dixit autem rex Ægýpti obstetrícibus Hebræórum, quarum una vocabátur Séphora, áltera Phua,

ויאמר מלך מצרים למילדות העבריות אשׁר שׁם האחת שׁפרה ושׁם השׁנית פועה

And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one [was] Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah:

καὶ εἶπεν Ὅταν μαιοῦσθε τὰς Ἐβραίας καὶ ὦσιν πρὸς τῷ τίκτειν, ἐὰν μὲν ἄρσεν ᾖ, ἀποκτείνατε αὐτό · ἐὰν δὲ θῆλυ, περιποιεῖσθε αὐτό.

præcípiens eis: Quando obstetricábitis Hebrǽas, et partus tempus advénerit: si másculus fúerit, interfícite eum: si fémina, reserváte.

ויאמר בילדכן את העבריות וראיתן על האבנים אם־בן הוא והמתן אתו ואם־בת היא וחיתה
16
And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see [them] upon the stools; if it [be] a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it [be] a daughter, then she shall live.

וַתִּירֶ֤אןָ הַֽמְיַלְּדֹת֙ אֶת הָ֣־אֱלֹהִ֔ים וְלֹ֣א עָשׂ֔וּ כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר דִּבֶּ֥ר אֲלֵיהֶ֖ן מֶ֣לֶךְ מִצְרָ֑יִם וַתְּחַיֶּ֖יןָ אֶת הַ־יְלָדִֽים׃

ἐφοβήθησαν δὲ αἱ μαῖαι τὸν θεόν, καὶ οὐκ ἐποίησαν καθότι συνέταξεν αὐταῖς ὁ βασιλεὺς Αἰγύπτου, καὶ ἐζωογόνουν τὰ ἄρσενα.

Timuérunt autem obstetríces Deum, et non fecérunt iuxta præcéptum regis Ægýpti, sed conservábant mares.

ותיראנה המילדות את האלהים ולא עשׂו כאשׁר דבר אליהן מלך מצרים ותחינה את הילדים
17
But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.

ἐκάλεσεν δὲ ὁ βασιλεὺς Αἰγύπτου τὰς μαίας καὶ εἶπεν αὐταῖς Τί ὅτι ἐποιήσατε τὸ πρᾶγμα τοῦτο καὶ ἐζωογονεῖτε τὰ ἄρσενα?

Quibus ad se accersítis, rex ait: Quidnam est hoc quod fácere voluístis, ut púeros servarétis?

ויקרא פרעה למילדות ויאמר להן מדוע עשׂיתן את הדבר הזה ותחינה את הילדים

And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive?

וַתֹּאמַ֤רְןָ הַֽמְיַלְּדֹת֙ אֶל־פַּרְעֹ֔ה כִּ֣י לֹ֧א כַנָּשִׁ֛ים הַמִּצְרִיֹּ֖ת הָֽעִבְרִיֹּ֑ת כִּֽי־חָי֣וֹת הֵ֔נָּה בְּטֶ֨רֶם תָּב֧וֹא אֲלֵהֶ֛ן הַמְיַלֶּ֖דֶת וְיָלָֽדוּ׃
19
εἶπαν δὲ αἱ μαῖαι τῷ Φαραώ Οὐχ ὡς γυναῖκες Αἰγύπτου αἱ Ἐβραῖαι, τίκτουσιν γὰρ πρὶν ἢ εἰσελθεῖν πρὸς αὐτὰς τὰς μαίας, καὶ ἔτικτον.

Quæ respondérunt: Non sunt Hebrǽæ sicut Ægýptiæ mulíeres: ipsæ enim obstetricándi habent sciéntiam, et priúsquam veniámus ad eas, páriunt.

ותאמרנה המילדות אל־פרעה כי לא כנשׁים המצריות העבריות כי־חיות הנה בטרם תבוא אליהן המילדות וילדו
19
And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women [are] not as the Egyptian women; for they [are] lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them.

Bene ergo fecit Deus obstetrícibus: et crevit pópulus, confortatúsque est nimis.

Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.

And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.

Συνέταξεν δὲ Φαραὼ παντὶ τῷ λαῷ αὐτοῦ λέγων Πᾶν ἄρσεν ὃ ἐὰν τεχθῇ τοῖς Ἐβραίοις εἰς τὸν ποταμὸν ῥίψατε, καὶ πᾶν θῆλυ, ζωογονεῖτε αὐτό.

Præcépit ergo Phárao omni pópulo suo, dicens: Quidquid masculíni sexus natum fúerit, in flumen proícite: quidquid feminíni, reserváte.

ויצו פרעה לכל עמו לאמר כל הבן הילד לעברים היאר תשׁליכון וכל הבת תחיון
22
And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.
