וַֽיְהִ֥י כָל הָ־אָ֖רֶץ שָׂפָ֣ה אֶחָ֑ת וּדְבָרִ֖ים אֲחָדִֽים׃

Καὶ ἦν πᾶσα ἡ γῆ χεῖλος ἕν, καὶ φωνὴ μία πᾶσιν.

Erat autem terra lábii uníus, et sermónum eorúmdem.

ויהי כל הארץ שׂפה אחת ודברים אחדים

And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

וַֽיְהִ֖י בְּנָסְעָ֣ם מִקֶּ֑דֶם וַֽיִּמְצְא֥וּ בִקְעָ֛ה בְּאֶ֥רֶץ שִׁנְעָ֖ר וַיֵּ֥שְׁבוּ שָֽׁם׃

καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ κινῆσαι αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ ἀνατολῶν εὗρον πεδίον ἐν γῇ Σενναὰρ καὶ κατῴκησαν ἐκεῖ.

Cumque proficisceréntur de oriénte, invenérunt campum in terra Sénnaar, et habitavérunt in eo.

ויהי בנסעם מקדם וימצאו בקעה בארץ שׁנער וישׁבו שׁם

And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.

וַיֹּאמְר֞וּ אִ֣ישׁ אֶל רֵעֵ֗־הוּ הָ֚בָה נִלְבְּנָ֣ה לְבֵנִ֔ים וְנִשְׂרְפָ֖ה לִשְׂרֵפָ֑ה וַתְּהִ֨י לָהֶ֤ם הַלְּבֵנָה֙ לְאָ֔בֶן וְהַ֣חֵמָ֔ר הָיָ֥ה לָהֶ֖ם לַחֹֽמֶר׃

καὶ εἶπεν ἄνθρωπος τῷ πλησίον Δεῦτε πλινθεύσωμεν πλίνθους καὶ ὀπτήσωμεν αὐτὰς πυρί. καὶ ἐγένετο αὐτοῖς ἡ πλίνθος εἰς λίθον, καὶ ἄσφαλτος ἦν αὐτοῖς ὁ πηλός.

Dixítque alter ad próximum suum: Veníte, faciámus láteres, et coquámus eos igni. Habuerúntque láteres pro saxis, et bitúmen pro cæménto:

ויאמרו אישׁ אל רעהו הבה נלבנה לבנים ונשׂרפה לשׂרפה ותהי להם הלבנה לאבן והחימר היה להם לחימר

And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.

וַיֹּאמְר֞וּ הָ֣בָה ׀ נִבְנֶה לָּ֣־נוּ עִ֗יר וּמִגְדָּל֙ וְרֹאשׁ֣וֹ בַשָּׁמַ֔יִם וְנַֽעֲשֶׂה לָּ֖־נוּ שֵׁ֑ם פֶּן־נָפ֖וּץ עַל־פְּנֵ֥י כָל הָ־אָֽרֶץ׃
4
καὶ εἶπαν Δεῦτε οἰκοδομήσωμεν ἑαυτοῖς πόλιν καὶ πύργον, οὗ ἡ κεφαλὴ ἔσται ἕως τοῦ οὐρανοῦ, καὶ ποιήσομεν ἑαυτῶν ὄνομα πρὸ τοῦ διασπαρῆναι ἐπὶ προσώπου πάσης τῆς γῆς.

et dixérunt: Veníte, faciámus nobis civitátem et turrim, cuius culmen pertíngat ad cælum: et celebrémus nomen nostrum ántequam dividámur in univérsas terras.

ויאמרו הבה נבנה לנו עיר ומגדל וראשׁו בשׁמים ונעשׂה לנו שׁם פן־נפוץ על־פני כל הארץ
4
And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top [may reach] unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

וַיֵּ֣רֶד יְהוָ֔ה לִרְאֹ֥ת אֶת הָ־עִ֖יר וְאֶת הַ־מִּגְדָּ֑ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר בָּנ֖וּ בְּנֵ֥י הָאָדָֽם׃

καὶ κατέβη Κύριος ἰδεῖν τὴν πόλιν καὶ τὸν πύργον ὃν ᾠκοδόμησαν οἱ υἱοὶ τῶν ἀνθρώπων.

Descéndit autem Dóminus ut vidéret civitátem et turrim, quam ædificábant fílii Adam,

וירד יהוה לראות את העיר ואת המגדל אשׁר בנו בני האדם

And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוָ֗ה הֵ֣ן עַ֤ם אֶחָד֙ וְשָׂפָ֤ה אַחַת֙ לְכֻלָּ֔ם וְזֶ֖ה הַחִלָּ֣ם לַעֲשׂ֑וֹת וְעַתָּה֙ לֹֽא־יִבָּצֵ֣ר מֵהֶ֔ם כֹּ֛ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר יָזְמ֖וּ לַֽעֲשֽׂוֹת׃

καὶ εἶπεν Κύριος Ἰδοὺ γένος ἓν καὶ χεῖλος ἓν πάντων · καὶ τοῦτο ἤρξαντο ποιῆσαι, καὶ νῦν οὐκ ἐκλείψει ἐξ αὐτῶν πάντα ὅσα ἂν ἐπιθῶνται ποιῆσαι.

et dixit: Ecce, unus est pópulus, et unum lábium ómnibus: cœperúntque hoc fácere, nec desístent a cogitatiónibus suis, donec eas ópere cómpleant.

ויאמר יהוה הן עם אחד ושׂפה אחת לכלם וזה החלם לעשׂות ועתה לא־יבצר מהם כל אשׁר יזמנו לעשׂות

And the LORD said, Behold, the people [is] one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

הָ֚בָה נֵֽרְדָ֔ה וְנָבְלָ֥ה שָׁ֖ם שְׂפָתָ֑ם אֲשֶׁר֙ לֹ֣א יִשְׁמְע֔וּ אִ֖ישׁ שְׂפַ֥ת רֵעֵֽהוּ׃
7
δεῦτε καὶ καταβάντες συγχέωμεν ἐκεῖ αὐτῶν τὴν γλῶσσαν, ἵνα μὴ ἀκούσωσιν ἕκαστος τὴν φωνὴν τοῦ πλησίον.

Veníte ígitur, descendámus, et confundámus ibi linguam eórum, ut non áudiat unusquísque vocem próximi sui.

הבה נרדה ונבלה שׁם שׂפתים אשׁר לא ישׁמע אישׁ את שׂפת רעהו

Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another ’s speech.

וַיָּ֨פֶץ יְהוָ֥ה אֹתָ֛ם מִשָּׁ֖ם עַל־פְּנֵ֣י כָל הָ־אָ֑רֶץ וַֽיַּחְדְּל֖וּ לִבְנֹ֥ת הָעִֽיר׃
8
καὶ διέσπειρεν αὐτοὺς Κύριος ἐκεῖθεν ἐπὶ πρόσωπον πάσης τῆς γῆς, καὶ ἐπαύσαντο οἰκοδομοῦντες τὴν πόλιν καὶ τὸν πύργον.

Atque ita divísit eos Dóminus ex illo loco in univérsas terras, et cessavérunt ædificáre civitátem.

ויפץ יהוה אתם משׁם על־פני כל הארץ ויחדלו לבנות את העיר ואת המגדל

So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

עַל־כֵּ֞ן קָרָ֤א שְׁמָהּ֙ בָּבֶ֔ל כִּי־שָׁ֛ם בָּלַ֥ל יְהוָ֖ה שְׂפַ֣ת כָּל הָ־אָ֑רֶץ וּמִשָּׁם֙ הֱפִיצָ֣ם יְהוָ֔ה עַל־פְּנֵ֖י כָּל הָ־אָֽרֶץ׃ פ

διὰ τοῦτο ἐκλήθη τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Σύγχυσις, ὅτι ἐκεῖ συνέχεεν Κύριος τὰ χείλη πάσης τῆς γῆς, καὶ ἐκεῖθεν διέσπειρεν αὐτοὺς Κύριος ὁ θεὸς ἐπὶ πρόσωπον πάσης τῆς γῆς.

Et idcírco vocátum est nomen eius Babel, quia ibi confúsum est lábium univérsæ terræ: et inde dispérsit eos Dóminus super fáciem cunctárum regiónum.

על־כן קרא שׁמה בבל כי־שׁם בלל יהוה את שׂפת כל הארץ ומשׁם הפיצם יהוה על־פני כל הארץ
9
Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

אֵ֚לֶּה תּוֹלְדֹ֣ת שֵׁ֔ם שֵׁ֚ם בֶּן־מְאַ֣ת שָׁנָ֔ה וַיּ֖וֹלֶד אֶת־אַרְפַּכְשָׁ֑ד שְׁנָתַ֖יִם אַחַ֥ר הַמַּבּֽוּל׃

Καὶ αὗται αἱ γενέσεις Σήμ. Σὴμ υἱὸς ἐτῶν ἑκατὸν ὅτε ἐγέννησεν τὸν Ἀρφαξάδ, δευτέρου ἔτους μετὰ τὸν κατακλυσμόν.

Hæ sunt generatiónes Sem: Sem erat centum annórum quando génuit Arpháxad, biénnio post dilúvium.

אלה תולדת שׁם שׁם בן־מאת שׁנה ויוליד את־ארפכשׁד שׁנתים אחרי המבול

These [are] the generations of Shem: Shem [was] an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:

וַֽיְחִי־שֵׁ֗ם אַֽחֲרֵי֙ הוֹלִיד֣וֹ אֶת־אַרְפַּכְשָׁ֔ד חֲמֵ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֥וֹלֶד בָּנִ֖ים וּבָנֽוֹת׃ ס

καὶ ἔζησεν Σὴμ μετὰ τὸ γεννῆσαι αὐτὸν τὸν Ἀρφαξὰδ πεντακόσια ἔτη, καὶ ἐγέννησεν υἱοὺς καὶ θυγατέρας, καὶ ἀπέθανεν.

Vixítque Sem, postquam génuit Arpháxad, quingéntis annis: et génuit fílios et fílias.

ויחי־שׁם אחרי הולידו את־ארפכשׁד חמשׁ מאות שׁנה ויוליד בנים ובנות ויהיו כל ימי שׁם שׁשׁ מאות שׁנה וימת

And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

וְאַרְפַּכְשַׁ֣ד חַ֔י חָמֵ֥שׁ וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֖ים שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֖וֹלֶד אֶת־שָֽׁלַח׃

Καὶ ἔζησεν Ἀρφαξὰδ ἑκατὸν τριάκοντα πέντε ἔτη, καὶ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Καινάν.

Porro Arpháxad vixit trigínta quinque annis, et génuit Sale.

וארפכשׁד חי חמשׁ ושׁלשׁים ומאת שׁנה ויוליד את־שׁלח

And Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and begat Salah:

וַֽיְחִ֣י אַרְפַּכְשַׁ֗ד אַֽחֲרֵי֙ הוֹלִיד֣וֹ אֶת־שֶׁ֔לַח שָׁלֹ֣שׁ שָׁנִ֔ים וְאַרְבַּ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֥וֹלֶד בָּנִ֖ים וּבָנֽוֹת׃ ס

καὶ ἔζησεν Ἀρφαξὰδ μετὰ τὸ γεννῆσαι αὐτὸν τὸν Καινὰν ἔτη τετρακόσια τριάκοντα, καὶ ἐγέννησεν υἱοὺς καὶ θυγατέρας, καὶ ἀπέθανεν. Καὶ ἔζησεν Καινὰν ἑκατον τριάκοντα ἔτη, καὶ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Σάλα. καὶ ἔζησεν Καινὰν μετὰ τὸ γεννῆσαι αὐτὸν τὸν Σάλα ἔτη τριακόσια τριάκοντα, καὶ ἐγέννησεν υἱοὺς καὶ θυγατέρας, καὶ ἀπέθανεν.

Vixítque Arpháxad, postquam génuit Sale, trecéntis tribus annis: et génuit fílios et fílias.

ויחי ארפכשׁד אחרי הולידו את־שׁלח שׁלשׁ שׁנים ושׁלשׁ מאות שׁנה ויוליד בנים ובנות ויהיו כל ימי ארפכשׁד שׁמנה ושׁלשׁים שׁנה וארבע מאות שׁנה וימת

And Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

וְשֶׁ֥לַח חַ֖י שְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֖וֹלֶד אֶת־עֵֽבֶר׃

Καὶ ἔζησεν Σάλα ἑκατὸν τριάκοντα ἔτη, καὶ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Ἔβερ.

Sale quoque vixit trigínta annis, et génuit Heber.

ויחי שׁלח שׁלשׁים שׁנה ומאת שׁנה ויוליד את־עבר

And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber:

וַֽיְחִי־שֶׁ֗לַח אַחֲרֵי֙ הוֹלִיד֣וֹ אֶת־עֵ֔בֶר שָׁלֹ֣שׁ שָׁנִ֔ים וְאַרְבַּ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֥וֹלֶד בָּנִ֖ים וּבָנֽוֹת׃ ס

καὶ ἔζησεν Σάλα μετὰ τὸ γεννῆσαι αὐτὸν τὸν Ἔβερ τριακόσια τριάκοντα ἔτη, καὶ ἐγέννησεν υἱοὺς καὶ θυγατέρας, καὶ ἀπέθανεν.

Vixítque Sale, postquam génuit Heber, quadringéntis tribus annis: et génuit fílios et fílias.

ויחי־שׁלח אחרי הולידו את־עבר שׁלשׁ שׁנים ושׁלשׁ מאות שׁנה ויוליד בנים ובנות ויהיו כל ימי שׁלח שׁלשׁ ושׁלשׁים שׁנה וארבע מאות שׁנה וימת

And Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

Καὶ ἔζησεν Ἔβερ ἑκατὸν τριάκοντα τέσσερα ἔτη, καὶ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Φάλεκ.

Vixit autem Heber trigínta quátuor annis, et génuit Phaleg.

ויחי־עבר ארבע ושׁלשׁים ומאת שׁנה ויוליד את־פלג

And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg:

καὶ ἔζησεν Ἔβερ μετὰ τὸ γεννῆσαι αὐτὸν τὸν Φάλεκ ἔτη τριακόσια ἑβδομήκοντα, καὶ ἐγέννησεν υἱοὺς καὶ θυγατέρας, καὶ ἀπέθανεν. ⸆

Et vixit Heber postquam génuit Phaleg, quadringéntis trigínta annis: et génuit fílios et fílias.

ויחי־עבר אחרי הולידו את־פלג שׁבעים שׁנה ומאתים שׁנה ויוליד בנים ובנות ויהיו כל ימי עבר ארבע שׁנים וארבע מאות שׁנה וימת

And Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.

וַֽיְחִי־פֶ֖לֶג שְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֖וֹלֶד אֶת־רְעֽוּ׃

Καὶ ἔζησεν Φάλεκ ἑκατὸν τριάκοντα ἔτη, καὶ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Ῥαγαὺ.

Vixit quoque Phaleg trigínta annis, et génuit Reu.

ויחי־פלג שׁלשׁים שׁנה ומאת שׁנה ויוליד את־רעו

And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu:

וַֽיְחִי־פֶ֗לֶג אַחֲרֵי֙ הוֹלִיד֣וֹ אֶת־רְע֔וּ תֵּ֥שַׁע שָׁנִ֖ים וּמָאתַ֣יִם שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֥וֹלֶד בָּנִ֖ים וּבָנֽוֹת׃ ס

καὶ ἔζησεν Φάλεκ μετὰ τὸ γεννῆσαι αὐτὸν τὸν Ῥαγαὺ διακόσια ἐννέα ἔτη, καὶ ἐγέννησεν υἱοὺς καὶ θυγατέρας, καὶ ἀπέθανεν.

Vixítque Phaleg, postquam génuit Reu, ducéntis novem annis: et génuit fílios et fílias.

ויחי־פלג אחרי הולידו את־רעו תשׁע שׁנים ומאת שׁנה ויוליד בנים ובנות ויהיו כל ימי פלג תשׁע ושׁלשׁים ומאתים שׁנה וימת

And Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters.

וַיְחִ֣י רְע֔וּ שְׁתַּ֥יִם וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֖ים שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֖וֹלֶד אֶת־שְׂרֽוּג׃

Καὶ ἔζησεν Ῥαγαὺ ἑκατὸν τριάκοντα δύο ἔτη, καὶ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Σερούχ.

Vixit autem Reu trigínta duóbus annis, et génuit Sarug.
20
ויחי רעו שׁתים ושׁלשׁים ומאת שׁנה ויוליד את־שׂרוג

And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug:

וַיְחִ֣י רְע֗וּ אַחֲרֵי֙ הוֹלִיד֣וֹ אֶת־שְׂר֔וּג שֶׁ֥בַע שָׁנִ֖ים וּמָאתַ֣יִם שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֥וֹלֶד בָּנִ֖ים וּבָנֽוֹת׃ ס

καὶ ἔζησεν Ῥαγαὺ μετὰ τὸ γεννῆσαι αὐτὸν τὸν Σερούχ διακόσια ἑπτὰ ἔτη, καὶ ἐγέννησεν υἱοὺς καὶ θυγατέρας, καὶ ἀπέθανεν.

Vixit quoque Reu, postquam génuit Sarug, ducéntis septem annis: et génuit fílios et fílias.

ויחי רעו אחרי הולידו את־שׂרוג שׁבע שׁנים ומאת שׁנה ויוליד בנים ובנות ויהיו כל ימי רעו תשׁע ושׁלשׁים ומאתים שׁנה וימת

And Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.

וַיְחִ֥י שְׂר֖וּג שְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֖וֹלֶד אֶת־נָחֽוֹר׃

καὶ ἔζησεν Σερούχ ἑκατὸν τριάκοντα ἔτη, καὶ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Ναχώρ.

Vixit vero Sarug trigínta annis, et génuit Nachor.

ויחי שׂרוג שׁלשׁים שׁנה ומאת שׁנה ויוליד את־נחור

And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor:

καὶ ἔζησεν Σερούχ μετὰ τὸ γεννῆσαι αὐτὸν τὸν Ναχὼρ ἔτη διακόσια, καὶ ἐγέννησεν υἱοὺς καὶ θυγατέρας, καὶ ἀπέθανεν.

Vixítque Sarug, postquam génuit Nachor, ducéntis annis: et génuit fílios et fílias.

ויחי שׂרוג אחרי הולידו את־נחור מאת שׁנה ויוליד בנים ובנות ויהיו כל ימי שׂרוג שׁלשׁים שׁנה ומאתים שׁנה וימת

And Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

Καὶ ἔζησεν Ναχὼρ ἔτη ἑβδομήκοντα ἐννέα, καὶ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Θάρα.

ויחי נחור תשׁע ושׁבעים שׁנה ויוליד את־תרח

And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah:

וַיְחִ֣י נָח֗וֹר אַחֲרֵי֙ הוֹלִיד֣וֹ אֶת־תֶּ֔רַח תְּשַֽׁע־עֶשְׂרֵ֥ה שָׁנָ֖ה וּמְאַ֣ת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֥וֹלֶד בָּנִ֖ים וּבָנֽוֹת׃ ס

καὶ ἔζησεν Ναχὼρ μετὰ τὸ γεννῆσαι αὐτὸν τὸν Θάρα ἔτη ἑκατὸν εἴκοσι ἐννέα, καὶ ἐγέννησεν υἱοὺς καὶ θυγατέρας, καὶ ἀπέθανεν.

Vixítque Nachor, postquam génuit Thare, centum decem et novem annis: et génuit fílios et fílias.

ויחי נחור אחרי הולידו את־תרח תשׁע שׁנים ושׁשׁים שׁנה ויוליד בנים ובנות ויהיו כל ימי נחור שׁמנה וארבעים שׁנה ומאת שׁנה וימת

And Nahor lived after he begat Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.

καὶ ἀπέθανεν Ἁρρὰν ἐνώπιον Θάρα τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ ἐν τῇ γῇ ᾗ ἐγενήθη, ἐν τῇ χώρᾳ τῶν Χαλδαίων.

καὶ ἔλαβεν Θάρα τὸν Ἀβρὰμ τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ τὸν Λὼτ υἱὸν Ἁρράν, υἱὸν τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ, καὶ τὴν Σάραν τὴν νύμφην αὐτοῦ, γυναῖκα τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐξήγαγεν αὐτοὺς ἐκ τῆς χώρας τῶν Χαλδαίων πορευθῆναι εἰς τὴν γῆν Χανάαν · καὶ ἦλθεν ἕως Χαρράν, καὶ κατῴκησεν ἐκεῖ.

Tulit ítaque Thare Abram fílium suum, et Lot fílium Aran, fílium fílii sui, et Sárai nurum suam, uxórem Abram fílii sui, et edúxit eos de Ur Chaldæórum, ut irent in terram Chánaan: venerúntque usque Haran, et habitavérunt ibi.

And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son ’s son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram ’s wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.
