וַיִּשָּׂ֥א יַעֲקֹ֖ב רַגְלָ֑יו וַיֵּ֖לֶךְ אַ֥רְצָה בְנֵי־קֶֽדֶם׃

Καὶ ἐξάρας Ἰακὼβ τοὺς πόδας ἐπορεύθη εἰς γῆν ἀνατολῶν πρὸς Λαβὰν τὸν υἱὸν Βαθουὴλ τοῦ Σύρου, ἀδελφὸν δὲ Ῥεβέκκας μητρὸς Ἰακὼβ καὶ Ἠσαύ.

Proféctus ergo Iacob venit in terram orientálem.

וישׂא יעקב רגליו וילך ארץ בני־קדם

Then Jacob went on his journey, and came into the land of the people of the east.

וַיַּ֞רְא וְהִנֵּ֧ה בְאֵ֣ר בַּשָּׂדֶ֗ה וְהִנֵּה־שָׁ֞ם שְׁלֹשָׁ֤ה עֶדְרֵי־צֹאן֙ רֹבְצִ֣ים עָלֶ֔יהָ כִּ֚י מִן הַ־בְּאֵ֣ר הַהִ֔וא יַשְׁק֖וּ הָעֲדָרִ֑ים וְהָאֶ֥בֶן גְּדֹלָ֖ה עַל־פִּ֥י הַבְּאֵֽר׃

καὶ ὁρᾷ, καὶ ἰδοὺ φρέαρ ἐν τῷ πεδίῳ. ἦσαν δὲ ἐκεῖ τρία ποίμνια προβάτων ἀναπαυόμενα ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτό. ἐκ γὰρ τοῦ φρέατος ἐκείνου ἐπότιζον τὰ ποίμνια · λίθος δὲ ἦν μέγας ἐπὶ τῷ στόματι τοῦ φρέατος.

Et vidit púteum in agro, tres quoque greges óvium accubántes iuxta eum: nam ex illo adaquabántur pécora, et os eius grandi lápide claudebátur.

וירא והנה באר בשׂדה והנה־שׁם שׁלשׁה עדרי־צאן רבצים עליה כי מן הבאר ההיא ישׁקו העדרים ואבן גדלה על־פי הבאר
2
And he looked, and behold a well in the field, and, lo, there [were] three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks: and a great stone [was] upon the well ’s mouth.

וְנֶאֶסְפוּ שָׁ֣מָּ־ה כָל הָ־עֲדָרִ֗ים וְגָלֲל֤וּ אֶת הָ־אֶ֨בֶן֙ מֵעַל֙ פִּ֣י הַבְּאֵ֔ר וְהִשְׁק֖וּ אֶת הַ־צֹּ֑אן וְהֵשִׁ֧יבוּ אֶת הָ־אֶ֛בֶן עַל־פִּ֥י הַבְּאֵ֖ר לִמְקֹמָֽהּ׃

καὶ συνήγοντο ἐκεῖ πάντα τὰ ποίμνια, καὶ ἀπεκύλιον τὸν λίθον ἀπὸ τοῦ στόματος τοῦ φρέατος, καὶ ἐπότιζον τὰ πρόβατα, καὶ ἀπεκαθίστων τὸν λίθον ἐπὶ τὸ στόμα τοῦ φρέατος εἰς τὸν τόπον αὐτοῦ.

Morísque erat ut cunctis óvibus congregátis devólverent lápidem, et reféctis grégibus rursum super os pútei pónerent.

ונאספו שׁם כל הרעים וגללו את האבן מעל־פי הבאר והשׁקו את הצאן והשׁיבו את האבן על־פי הבאר למקומה
3
And thither were all the flocks gathered: and they rolled the stone from the well ’s mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone again upon the well ’s mouth in his place.

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לָהֶם֙ יַעֲקֹ֔ב אַחַ֖י מֵאַ֣יִן אַתֶּ֑ם וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ מֵחָרָ֖ן אֲנָֽחְנוּ׃

εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς Ἰακώβ Ἀδελφοί, πόθεν ἐστὲ ὑμεῖς; οἱ δὲ εἶπαν Ἐκ Χαρράν ἐσμεν.

Dixítque ad pastóres: Fratres, unde estis? Qui respondérunt: De Haran.

ויאמר להם יעקב אחי מאין אתם ויאמרו מחרן אנחנו

And Jacob said unto them, My brethren, whence [be] ye? And they said, Of Haran [are] we.

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לָהֶ֔ם הַיְדַעְתֶּ֖ם אֶת־לָבָ֣ן בֶּן־נָח֑וֹר וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ יָדָֽעְנוּ׃

εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς Γινώσκετε Λαβὰν τὸν υἱὸν Ναχώρ; οἱ δὲ εἶπαν Γινώσκομεν.

Quos intérrogans, Numquid, ait, nostis Laban fílium Nachor? Dixérunt: Nóvimus.

ויאמר להם הידעתם את־לבן בן־נחור ויאמרו ידענו
5
And he said unto them, Know ye Laban the son of Nahor? And they said, We know [him].

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר לָהֶ֖ם הֲשָׁל֣וֹם ל֑וֹ וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ שָׁל֔וֹם וְהִנֵּה֙ רָחֵ֣ל בִּתּ֔וֹ בָּאָ֖ה עִם הַ־צֹּֽאן׃

εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς Ὑγιαίνει; οἱ δὲ εἶπαν Ὑγιαίνει. ἔτι αὐτοῦ λαλοῦντος καὶ ἰδοὺ Ῥαχὴλ ἡ θυγάτηρ αὐτοῦ ἤρχετο μετὰ τῶν προβάτων τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτῆς · αὐτὴ γὰρ ἔβοσκεν τὰ πρόβατα τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτῆς.

Sanúsne est? inquit. Valet, ínquiunt: et ecce Rachel fília eius venit cum grege suo.

ויאמר להם השׁלום לו ויאמרו שׁלום והנה רחל בתו באה עם הצאן

And he said unto them, [Is] he well? And they said, [He is] well: and, behold, Rachel his daughter cometh with the sheep.

וַיֹּ֗אמֶר הֵ֥ן עוֹד֙ הַיּ֣וֹם גָּד֔וֹל לֹא־עֵ֖ת הֵאָסֵ֣ף הַמִּקְנֶ֑ה הַשְׁק֥וּ הַצֹּ֖אן וּלְכ֥וּ רְעֽוּ׃

καὶ εἶπεν Ἰακώβ Ἔτι ἐστὶν ἡμέρα πολλή, οὔπω ὥρα συναχθῆναι τὰ κτήνη · ποτίσαντες τὰ πρόβατα ἀπελθόντες βόσκετε.

Dixítque Iacob: Adhuc multum diéi súperest, nec est tempus ut reducántur ad caulas greges: date ante potum óvibus, et sic eas ad pastum redúcite.

ויאמר להם הן עוד היום גדול לא־עת האסף המקנה השׁקו הצאן ולכו רעו
7
And he said, Lo, [it is] yet high day, neither [is it] time that the cattle should be gathered together: water ye the sheep, and go [and] feed [them].

וַיֹּאמְרוּ֮ לֹ֣א נוּכַל֒ עַ֣ד אֲשֶׁ֤ר יֵאָֽסְפוּ֙ כָּל הָ֣־עֲדָרִ֔ים וְגָֽלֲלוּ֙ אֶת הָ־אֶ֔בֶן מֵעַ֖ל פִּ֣י הַבְּאֵ֑ר וְהִשְׁקִ֖ינוּ הַצֹּֽאן׃
8
οἱ δὲ εἶπαν Οὐ δυνησόμεθα ἕως τοῦ συναχθῆναι πάντας τοὺς ποιμένας, καὶ ἀποκυλίσωσι τὸν λίθον ἀπὸ τοῦ στόματος τοῦ φρέατος, καὶ ποτιοῦμεν τὰ πρόβατα.

Qui respondérunt: Non póssumus, donec ómnia pécora congregéntur, et amoveámus lápidem de ore pútei, ut adaquémus greges.

ויאמרו לא נוכל עד אשׁר יאספו כל הרעים וגללו את האבן מעל פי הבאר והשׁקינו הצאן
8
And they said, We can not, until all the flocks be gathered together, and [till] they roll the stone from the well ’s mouth; then we water the sheep.

עוֹדֶ֖נּוּ מְדַבֵּ֣ר עִמָּ֑ם וְרָחֵ֣ל ׀ בָּ֗אָה עִם הַ־צֹּאן֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לְאָבִ֔יהָ כִּ֥י רֹעָ֖ה הִֽוא׃

ἔτι αὐτοῦ λαλοῦντος αὐτοῖς, καὶ Ῥαχὴλ ἡ θυγάτηρ Λαβὰν ἤρχετο μετὰ τῶν προβάτων τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτῆς · αὐτὴ γὰρ ἔβοσκεν τὰ πρόβατα τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτῆς.

Adhuc loquebántur, et ecce Rachel veniébat cum óvibus patris sui: nam gregem ipsa pascébat.

עודנו מדבר עמם ורחל באה עם הצאן אשׁר לאביה כי רעה היא

And while he yet spake with them, Rachel came with her father ’s sheep: for she kept them.

וַיְהִ֡י כַּאֲשֶׁר֩ רָאָ֨ה יַעֲקֹ֜ב אֶת־רָחֵ֗ל בַּת־לָבָן֙ אֲחִ֣י אִמּ֔וֹ וְאֶת־צֹ֥אן לָבָ֖ן אֲחִ֣י אִמּ֑וֹ וַיִּגַּ֣שׁ יַעֲקֹ֗ב וַיָּ֤גֶל אֶת הָ־אֶ֨בֶן֙ מֵעַל֙ פִּ֣י הַבְּאֵ֔ר וַיַּ֕שְׁקְ אֶת־צֹ֥אן לָבָ֖ן אֲחִ֥י אִמּֽוֹ׃

ἐγένετο δὲ ὡς ἴδεν Ἰακὼβ τὴν Ῥαχὴλ θυγατέρα Λαβὰν ἀδελφοῦ τῆς μητρὸς αὐτοῦ, καὶ προσελθὼν Ἰακὼβ ἀπεκύλισεν τὸν λίθον ἀπὸ τοῦ στόματος τοῦ φρέατος, καὶ ἐπότισεν τὰ πρόβατα Λαβὰν τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ τῆς μητρὸς αὐτοῦ.

Quam cum vidísset Iacob, et sciret consobrínam suam, ovésque Laban avúnculi sui, amóvit lápidem quo púteus claudebátur.

ויהי כאשׁר ראה יעקב את־רחל בת־לבן אחי אמו ואת־צאן לבן אחי אמו ויגשׁ יעקב ויגל את האבן מעל פי הבאר וישׁק את־צאן לבן אחי אמו

And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother ’s brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother ’s brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well ’s mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother ’s brother.

וַיִּשַּׁ֥ק יַעֲקֹ֖ב לְרָחֵ֑ל וַיִּשָּׂ֥א אֶת קֹל֖־וֹ וַיֵּֽבְךְּ׃

καὶ ἐφίλησεν Ἰακὼβ τὴν Ῥαχήλ, καὶ βοήσας τῇ φωνῇ αὐτοῦ ἔκλαυσεν.

Et adaquáto grege, osculátus est eam: et eleváta voce flevit,

וישׁק יעקב לרחל וישׂא את קולו ויבך

And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.

וַיַּגֵּ֨ד יַעֲקֹ֜ב לְרָחֵ֗ל כִּ֣י אֲחִ֤י אָבִ֨יהָ֙ ה֔וּא וְכִ֥י בֶן־רִבְקָ֖ה ה֑וּא וַתָּ֖רָץ וַתַּגֵּ֥ד לְאָבִֽיהָ׃
12
καὶ ἀνήγγειλεν τῇ Ῥαχὴλ ὅτι ἀδελφὸς τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτῆς ἐστίν, καὶ ὅτι υἱὸς Ῥεβέκκας ἐστίν · καὶ δραμοῦσα ἀπήγγειλεν τῷ πατρὶ αὐτῆς κατὰ τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα.

et indicávit ei quod frater esset patris sui, et fílius Rebéccæ: at illa festínans nuntiávit patri suo.

ויגד יעקב לרחל כי אחי אביה הוא וכי בן־רבקה הוא ותרץ ותגד לאביה

And Jacob told Rachel that he [was] her father ’s brother, and that he [was] Rebekah ’s son: and she ran and told her father.

וַיְהִי֩ כִשְׁמֹ֨עַ לָבָ֜ן אֶת־שֵׁ֣מַע ׀ יַעֲקֹ֣ב בֶּן אֲחֹת֗־וֹ וַיָּ֤רָץ לִקְרָאתוֹ֙ וַיְחַבֶּק ל־וֹ֙ וַיְנַשֶּׁק ל֔־וֹ וַיְבִיאֵ֖הוּ אֶל בֵּית֑־וֹ וַיְסַפֵּ֣ר לְלָבָ֔ן אֵ֥ת כָּל הַ־דְּבָרִ֖ים הָאֵֽלֶּה׃

καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἤκουσεν Λαβὰν τὸ ὄνομα Ἰακὼβ τοῦ υἱοῦ τῆς ἀδελφῆς αὐτοῦ, ἔδραμεν εἰς συνάντησιν αὐτοῦ, καὶ περιλαβὼν αὐτὸν ἐφίλησεν, καὶ εἰσήγαγεν αὐτὸν εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ · καὶ διηγήσατο τῷ Λαβὰν πάντας τοὺς λόγους τούτους.

Qui cum audísset venísse Iacob fílium soróris suæ, cucúrrit óbviam ei: complexúsque eum, et in óscula ruens, duxit in domum suam. Audítis autem causis itíneris,

ויהי כשׁמע לבן את־שׁמע יעקב בן אחותו וירץ לקראתו ויחבק לו וינשׁק לו ויביאהו אל ביתו ויספר ללבן את כל הדברים האלה

And it came to pass, when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister ’s son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things.

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לוֹ֙ לָבָ֔ן אַ֛ךְ עַצְמִ֥י וּבְשָׂרִ֖י אָ֑תָּה וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב עִמּ֖וֹ חֹ֥דֶשׁ יָמִֽים׃

καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Λαβάν Ἐκ τῶν ὀστῶν μου καὶ ἐκ τῆς σαρκός μου εἶ σύ · καὶ ἦν μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ μῆνα ἡμερῶν.

respóndit: Os meum es, et caro mea. Et postquam impléti sunt dies mensis uníus,

ויאמר לו לבן אך עצמי ובשׂרי אתה וישׁב עמו חדשׁ ימים
14
And Laban said to him, Surely thou [art] my bone and my flesh. And he abode with him the space of a month.

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לָבָן֙ לְיַעֲקֹ֔ב הֲכִי אָחִ֣־י אַ֔תָּה וַעֲבַדְתַּ֖נִי חִנָּ֑ם הַגִּ֥ידָה לִּ֖י מַה מַּשְׂכֻּרְתֶּֽ־ךָ׃

εἶπεν δὲ Λαβὰν τῷ Ἰακώβ Ὅτι γὰρ ἀδελφός μου εἶ, οὐ δουλεύσεις μοι δωρεάν · ἀπάγγειλόν μοι τίς ὁ μισθός σού ἐστιν.

dixit ei: Num quia frater meus es, gratis sérvies mihi? dic quid mercédis accípias.

ויאמר לבן ליעקב הכי אחי אתה ועבדתני חנם הגידה לי מה משׂכרתך
15
And Laban said unto Jacob, Because thou [art] my brother, shouldest thou therefore serve me for nought? tell me, what [shall] thy wages [be]?

וּלְלָבָ֖ן שְׁתֵּ֣י בָנ֑וֹת שֵׁ֤ם הַגְּדֹלָה֙ לֵאָ֔ה וְשֵׁ֥ם הַקְּטַנָּ֖ה רָחֵֽל׃

τῷ δὲ Λαβὰν ἦσαν δύο θυγατέρες · ὄνομα τῇ μείζονι Λεία, καὶ ὄνομα τῇ νεωτέρᾳ Ῥαχήλ.

Habébat vero duas fílias: nomen maióris Lia, minor vero appellabátur Rachel.

וללבן שׁתי בנות שׁם הגדלה לאה ושׁם הקטנה רחל

And Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder [was] Leah, and the name of the younger [was] Rachel.

וְעֵינֵ֥י לֵאָ֖ה רַכּ֑וֹת וְרָחֵל֙ הָֽיְתָ֔ה יְפַת־תֹּ֖אַר וִיפַ֥ת מַרְאֶֽה׃

οἱ δὲ ὀφθαλμοὶ Λείας ἀσθενεῖς · Ῥαχὴλ δὲ ἦν καλὴ τῷ εἴδει καὶ ὡραία τῇ ὄψει.

Sed Lia lippis erat óculis: Rachel decóra fácie, et venústo aspéctu.

ועיני לאה רכות ורחל היתה יפת־תאר ויפת מראה

Leah [was] tender eyed; but Rachel was beautiful and well favoured.

וַיֶּאֱהַ֥ב יַעֲקֹ֖ב אֶת־רָחֵ֑ל וַיֹּ֗אמֶר אֶֽעֱבָדְךָ֙ שֶׁ֣בַע שָׁנִ֔ים בְּרָחֵ֥ל בִּתְּךָ֖ הַקְּטַנָּֽה׃
18
ἠγάπησεν δὲ Ἰακὼβ τὴν Ῥαχήλ, καὶ εἶπεν Δουλεύσω σοι ἑπτὰ ἔτη περὶ Ῥαχὴλ τῆς θυγατρός σου τῆς νεωτέρας.

Quam díligens Iacob, ait: Sérviam tibi pro Rachel fília tua minóre, septem annis.

ויאהב יעקב את־רחל ויאמר אעבדך שׁבע שׁנים ברחל בתך הקטנה
18
And Jacob loved Rachel; and said, I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter.

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לָבָ֗ן ט֚וֹב תִּתִּ֣י אֹתָ֣הּ לָ֔ךְ מִתִּתִּ֥י אֹתָ֖הּ לְאִ֣ישׁ אַחֵ֑ר שְׁבָ֖ה עִמָּדִֽי׃

εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ Λαβάν Βέλτιον δοῦναί με αὐτὴν σοὶ ἢ δοῦναί με αὐτὴν ἀνδρὶ ἑτέρῳ · οἴκησον μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ.

Respóndit Laban: Mélius est ut tibi eam dem quam álteri viro, mane apud me.

ויאמר לבן טוב תתי אתה לך מתתי אתה לאישׁ אחר שׁב עמדי

And Laban said, [It is] better that I give her to thee, than that I should give her to another man: abide with me.

וַיַּעֲבֹ֧ד יַעֲקֹ֛ב בְּרָחֵ֖ל שֶׁ֣בַע שָׁנִ֑ים וַיִּהְי֤וּ בְעֵינָיו֙ כְּיָמִ֣ים אֲחָדִ֔ים בְּאַהֲבָת֖וֹ אֹתָֽהּ׃

καὶ ἐδούλευσεν Ἰακὼβ περὶ Ῥαχὴλ ἑπτὰ ἔτη.

Servívit ergo Iacob pro Rachel septem annis: et videbántur illi pauci dies præ amóris magnitúdine.

ויעבד יעקב ברחל שׁבע שׁנים ויהיו בעיניו כימים אחדים באהבתו אתה

And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him [but] a few days, for the love he had to her.

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יַעֲקֹ֤ב אֶל־לָבָן֙ הָבָ֣ה אֶת אִשְׁתִּ֔־י כִּ֥י מָלְא֖וּ יָמָ֑י וְאָב֖וֹאָה אֵלֶֽיהָ׃

εἶπεν δὲ Ἰακὼβ τῷ Λαβάν Ἀπόδος μοι τὴν γυναῖκά μου, πεπλήρωνται γὰρ αἱ ἡμέραι μου, ὅπως εἰσέλθω πρὸς αὐτήν.

Dixítque ad Laban: Da mihi uxórem meam: quia iam tempus implétum est, ut ingrédiar ad illam.

ויאמר יעקב אל־לבן הבה את אשׁתי כי מלאו ימי ואבוא אליה
21
And Jacob said unto Laban, Give [me] my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in unto her.

וַיֶּאֱסֹ֥ף לָבָ֛ן אֶת־כָּל־אַנְשֵׁ֥י הַמָּק֖וֹם וַיַּ֥עַשׂ מִשְׁתֶּֽה׃

συνήγαγεν δὲ Λαβὰν πάντας τοὺς ἄνδρας τοῦ τόπου καὶ ἐποίησεν γάμον.

Qui vocátis multis amicórum turbis ad convívium, fecit núptias.

ויאסף לבן את־כל־אנשׁי המקום ויעשׂ משׁתה

And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast.

וַיְהִ֣י בָעֶ֔רֶב וַיִּקַּח֙ אֶת־לֵאָ֣ה בִתּ֔וֹ וַיָּבֵ֥א אֹתָ֖הּ אֵלָ֑יו וַיָּבֹ֖א אֵלֶֽיהָ׃

καὶ ἐγένετο ἑσπέρα, καὶ λαβὼν Λείαν τὴν θυγατέρα αὐτοῦ εἰσήγαγεν αὐτὴν πρὸς Ἰακώβ, καὶ εἰσῆλθεν πρὸς αὐτὴν Ἰακώβ.

And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him; and he went in unto her.

וַיִּתֵּ֤ן לָבָן֙ לָ֔הּ אֶת־זִלְפָּ֖ה שִׁפְחָת֑וֹ לְלֵאָ֥ה בִתּ֖וֹ שִׁפְחָֽה׃

ἔδωκεν δὲ Λαβὰν Ζέλφαν Λείᾳ τῇ θυγατρὶ αὐτοῦ τὴν παιδίσκην αὐτοῦ αὐτῇ παιδίσκην.

dans ancíllam fíliæ, Zelpham nómine. Ad quam cum ex more Iacob fuísset ingréssus, facto mane vidit Liam:

ויתן לבן את־זלפה שׁפחתו ללאה בתו לשׁפחה

וַיְהִ֣י בַבֹּ֔קֶר וְהִנֵּה־הִ֖וא לֵאָ֑ה וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֶל־לָבָ֗ן מַה־זֹּאת֙ עָשִׂ֣יתָ לִּ֔י הֲלֹ֤א בְרָחֵל֙ עָבַ֣דְתִּי עִמָּ֔ךְ וְלָ֖מָּה רִמִּיתָֽנִי׃

ἐγένετο δὲ πρωί, καὶ ἰδοὺ ἦν Λεία · εἶπεν δὲ Ἰακὼβ Λαβάν Τί τοῦτο ἐποίησάς μοι; οὐ περὶ Ῥαχὴλ ἐδούλευσα σοί; καὶ ἵνα τί παρελογίσω με;

et dixit ad sócerum suum: Quid est quod fácere voluísti? nonne pro Rachel servívi tibi? quare imposuísti mihi?

ויהי בבקר והנה היא לאה ויאמר אל־לבן מה־זאת עשׂית לי הלוא ברחל עבדתי עמך ולמה רמיתני

And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it [was] Leah: and he said to Laban, What [is] this thou hast done unto me? did not I serve with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me?

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לָבָ֔ן לֹא־יֵעָשֶׂ֥ה כֵ֖ן בִּמְקוֹמֵ֑נוּ לָתֵ֥ת הַצְּעִירָ֖ה לִפְנֵ֥י הַבְּכִירָֽה׃

εἶπεν δὲ Λαβάν Οὐκ ἔστιν οὕτως ἐν τῷ τόπῳ ἡμῶν, δοῦναι τὴν νεωτέραν πρὶν ἢ τὴν πρεσβυτέραν ·

Respóndit Laban: Non est in loco nostro consuetúdinis, ut minóres ante tradámus ad núptias.

συντέλεσον οὖν τὰ ἕβδομα ταύτης, καὶ δώσω σοι καὶ ταύτην ἀντὶ τῆς ἐργασίας ἧς ἐργᾷ παρ᾽ ἐμοὶ ἔτι ἑπτὰ ἔτη ἕτερα.

Imple hebdómadam diérum huius cópulæ: et hanc quoque dabo tibi pro ópere quo servitúrus es mihi septem annis áliis.

καὶ εἰσῆλθεν πρὸς Ῥαχήλ · ἠγάπησεν δὲ Ῥαχὴλ μᾶλλον ἢ Λείαν · καὶ ἐδούλευσεν αὐτῷ ἑπτὰ ἔτη ἕτερα.

καὶ συνέλαβεν Λεία καὶ ἔτεκεν υἱὸν τῷ Ἰακώβ · ἐκάλεσεν δὲ τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ῥουβὴν λέγουσα Διότι εἶδέν μου Κύριος τὴν ταπείνωσιν · νῦν ἀγαπήσει με ὁ ἀνήρ μου.

Quæ concéptum génuit fílium, vocavítque nomen eius Ruben, dicens: Vidit Dóminus humilitátem meam: nunc amábit me vir meus.

And Leah conceived, and bare a son, and she called his name Reuben: for she said, Surely the LORD hath looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me.

καὶ συνέλαβεν πάλιν Λεία καὶ ἔτεκεν υἱὸν δεύτερον τῷ Ἰακώβ, καὶ εἶπεν ὅτι Ἤκουσεν Κύριος ὅτι μισοῦμαι, καὶ προσέδωκέν μοι καὶ τοῦτον · καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Συμεών.

Rursúmque concépit et péperit fílium, et ait: Quóniam audívit me Dóminus habéri contémptui, dedit étiam istum mihi: vocavítque nomen eius Símeon.

καὶ συνέλαβεν ἔτι καὶ ἔτεκεν υἱόν, καὶ εἶπεν Ἐν τῷ νῦν καιρῷ πρὸς ἐμοῦ ἔσται ὁ ἀνήρ μου, τέτοκα γὰρ αὐτῷ τρεῖς υἱούς · διὰ τοῦτο ἐκλήθη τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Λευί.

Concepítque tértio, et génuit álium fílium: dixítque: Nunc quoque copulábitur mihi marítus meus: eo quod pepérerim ei tres fílios: et idcírco appellávit nomen eius Levi.

וַתַּ֨הַר ע֜וֹד וַתֵּ֣לֶד בֵּ֗ן וַתֹּ֨אמֶר֙ הַפַּ֨עַם֙ אוֹדֶ֣ה אֶת־יְהוָ֔ה עַל־כֵּ֛ן קָרְאָ֥ה שְׁמ֖וֹ יְהוּדָ֑ה וַֽתַּעֲמֹ֖ד מִלֶּֽדֶת׃

καὶ συλλαβοῦσα ἔτι ἔτεκεν υἱόν, καὶ εἶπεν Νῦν ἔτι τοῦτο ἐξομολογήσομαι Κυρίῳ · διὰ τοῦτο ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ἰουδά. καὶ ἔστη τοῦ τίκτειν.

Quarto concépit, et péperit fílium, et ait: Modo confitébor Dómino, et ob hoc vocávit eum Iudam: cessavítque párere.

And she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, Now will I praise the LORD: therefore she called his name Judah; and left bearing.
