וַיְהִ֣י הַיּ֔וֹם וַיָּבֹ֨אוּ֙ בְּנֵ֣י הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים לְהִתְיַצֵּ֖ב עַל־יְהוָ֑ה וַיָּב֤וֹא גַֽם הַ־שָּׂטָן֙ בְּתֹכָ֔ם לְהִתְיַצֵּ֖ב עַל־יְהוָֽה׃

Ἐγένετο δὲ ὡς ἡμέρα αὕτη καὶ ἦλθον οἱ ἄγγελοι τοῦ θεοῦ παραστῆναι ἔναντι Κυρίου, καὶ διάβολος ἦλθεν ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῶν παραστῆναι ἐναντίον τοῦ κυρίου.

Factum est autem, cum quadam die veníssent fílii Dei, et starent coram Dómino, venísset quoque Satan inter eos, et staret in conspéctu eius,

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֶל הַ־שָּׂטָ֔ן אֵ֥י מִזֶּ֖ה תָּבֹ֑א וַיַּ֨עַן הַשָּׂטָ֤ן אֶת־יְהוָה֙ וַיֹּאמַ֔ר מִשֻּׁ֣ט בָּאָ֔רֶץ וּמֵהִתְהַלֵּ֖ךְ בָּֽהּ׃

καὶ εἶπεν κύριος τῷ διαβόλῳ Πόθεν σὺ ἔρχῃ; τότε εἶπεν διάβολος ἐνώπιον τοῦ κυρίου Διαπορευθεὶς τὴν ὑπ᾽ οὐρανὸν καὶ ἐμπεριπατήσας τὴν σύμπασαν πάρειμι.

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל הַ־שָּׂטָ֗ן הֲשַׂ֣מְתָּ לִבְּךָ֮ אֶל עַבְדִּ֣־י אִיּוֹב֒ כִּי֩ אֵ֨ין כָּמֹ֜הוּ בָּאָ֗רֶץ אִ֣ישׁ תָּ֧ם וְיָשָׁ֛ר יְרֵ֥א אֱלֹהִ֖ים וְסָ֣ר מֵרָ֑ע וְעֹדֶ֨נּוּ֙ מַחֲזִ֣יק בְּתֻמָּת֔וֹ וַתְּסִיתֵ֥נִי ב֖וֹ לְבַלְּע֥וֹ חִנָּֽם׃

εἶπεν δὲ κύριος πρὸς τὸν διάβολον Προσέσχες οὖν τῷ θεράποντί μου Ἰώβ; ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν κατ᾽ αὐτὸν τῶν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, ἄνθρωπος ἄκακος, ἀληθινός, ἄμεμπτος, θεοσεβής, ἀπεχόμενος ἀπὸ παντὸς κακοῦ. ἔτι δὲ ἔχεται ἀκακίας · σὺ δὲ εἶπας τὰ ὑπάρχοντα αὐτοῦ διὰ κενῆς ἀπολέσαι.

Et dixit Dóminus ad Satan: Numquid considerásti servum meum Iob, quod non sit ei símilis in terra, vir simplex, et rectus, ac timens Deum, et recédens a malo, et adhuc rétinens innocéntiam? Tu autem commovísti me advérsus eum, ut afflígerem eum frustra.

And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that [there is] none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.

וַיַּ֧עַן הַשָּׂטָ֛ן אֶת־יְהוָ֖ה וַיֹּאמַ֑ר ע֣וֹר בְּעַד־ע֗וֹר וְכֹל֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לָאִ֔ישׁ יִתֵּ֖ן בְּעַ֥ד נַפְשֽׁוֹ׃

ὑπολαβὼν δὲ διάβολος εἶπεν τῷ κυρίῳ Δέρμα ὑπὲρ δέρματος · ὅσα ὑπάρχει ἀνθρώπῳ ὑπὲρ τῆς ψυχῆς αὐτοῦ ἐκτίσει.

Cui respóndens Satan, ait: Pellem pro pelle, et cuncta quæ habet homo, dabit pro ánima sua.

אוּלָם֙ שְֽׁלַֽח־נָ֣א יָֽדְךָ֔ וְגַ֥ע אֶל עַצְמ֖־וֹ וְאֶל בְּשָׂר֑־וֹ אִם־לֹ֥א אֶל פָּנֶ֖י־ךָ יְבָרֲכֶֽךָּ׃

οὐ μὴν δὲ ἀλλὰ ἀποστείλας τὴν χεῖρά σου ἅψαι τῶν ὀστῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ τῶν σαρκῶν αὐτοῦ · εἰ μὴν εἰς πρόσωπόν σε εὐλογήσει.

Alióquin mitte manum tuam, et tange os eius et carnem, et tunc vidébis quod in fáciem benedícat tibi.

וַיֵּצֵא֙ הַשָּׂטָ֔ן מֵאֵ֖ת פְּנֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וַיַּ֤ךְ אֶת־אִיּוֹב֙ בִּשְׁחִ֣ין רָ֔ע מִכַּ֥ף רַגְל֖וֹ עד קָדְקֳדֽוֹ׃

ἐξῆλθεν δὲ διάβολος ἀπὸ τοῦ κυρίου, καὶ ἔπαισεν τὸν Ἰὼβ ἕλκει πονηρῷ ἀπὸ ποδῶν ἕως κεφαλῆς.

καὶ ἔλαβεν ὄστρακον ἵνα τὸν ἰχῶρα ξύῃ, καὶ ἐκάθητο ἐπὶ τῆς κοπρίας ἔξω τῆς πόλεως.

וַתֹּ֤אמֶר לוֹ֙ אִשְׁתּ֔וֹ עֹדְךָ֖ מַחֲזִ֣יק בְּתֻמָּתֶ֑ךָ בָּרֵ֥ךְ אֱלֹהִ֖ים וָמֻֽת׃

χρόνου δὲ πολλοῦ προβεβηκότος εἶπεν αὐτῷ γυνὴ αὐτοῦ Μέχρι τίνος καρτερήσεις λέγων Ἰδοὺ ἀναμένω χρόνον ἔτι μικρὸν προσδεχόμενος τὴν ἐλπίδα τῆς σωτηρίας μου; ἰδοὺ γὰρ ἠφάνισταί σου τὸ μνημόσυνον ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς, υἱοὶ καὶ θυγατέρες, ἐμῆς κοιλίας ὠδῖνες καὶ πόνοι, οὓς εἰς τὸ κενὸν ἐκοπίασα μετὰ μόχθων. σύ τε αὐτὸς ἐν σαπρίᾳ σκωλήκων κάθησαι διανυκτερεύων αἴθριος · κἀγὼ πλανωμένη καὶ λάτρις, τόπον ἐκ τόπου καὶ οἰκίαν ἐξ οἰκίας, προσδεχομένη τὸν ἥλιον πότε δύσεται, ἵνα ἀναπαύσωμαι τῶν μόχθων μου καὶ τῶν ὀδυνῶν αἵ με νῦν συνέχουσιν. ἀλλὰ εἰπόν τι ῥῆμα εἰς Κύριον, καὶ τελεύτα.

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלֶ֗יהָ כְּדַבֵּ֞ר אַחַ֤ת הַנְּבָלוֹת֙ תְּדַבֵּ֔רִי גַּ֣ם אֶת הַ־טּ֗וֹב נְקַבֵּל֙ מֵאֵ֣ת הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים וְאֶת הָ־רָ֖ע לֹ֣א נְקַבֵּ֑ל בְּכָל־זֹ֛את לֹא־חָטָ֥א אִיּ֖וֹב בִּשְׂפָתָֽיו׃ פ

δὲ ἐμβλέψας εἶπεν αὐτῇ Ὥσπερ μία τῶν ἀφρόνων γυναικῶν ἐλάλησας · εἰ τὰ ἀγαθὰ ἐδεξάμεθα ἐκ χειρὸς Κυρίου, τὰ κακὰ οὐχ ὑποίσομεν; ἐν πᾶσιν τούτοις τοῖς συμβεβηκόσιν αὐτῷ οὐδὲν ἥμαρτεν Ἰὼβ τοῖς χείλεσιν ἐναντίον τοῦ θεοῦ.

Qui ait ad illam: Quasi una de stultis muliéribus locúta es: si bona suscépimus de manu Dei, mala quare non suscipiámus? In ómnibus his non peccávit Iob lábiis suis.

But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

וַֽיִּשְׁמְע֞וּ שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת ׀ רֵעֵ֣י אִיּ֗וֹב אֵ֣ת כָּל הָ־רָעָ֣ה הַזֹּאת֮ הַבָּ֣אָה עָלָיו֒ וַיָּבֹ֨אוּ֙ אִ֣ישׁ מִמְּקֹמ֔וֹ אֱלִיפַ֤ז הַתֵּימָנִי֙ וּבִלְדַּ֣ד הַשּׁוּחִ֔י וְצוֹפַ֖ר הַנַּֽעֲמָתִ֑י וַיִּוָּעֲד֣וּ יַחְדָּ֔ו לָב֥וֹא לָנֽוּד ל֖־וֹ וּֽלְנַחֲמֽוֹ׃

Ἀκούσαντες δὲ οἱ τρεῖς φίλοι αὐτοῦ τὰ κακὰ πάντα τὰ ἐπελθόντα αὐτῷ, παρεγένοντο ἕκαστος ἐκ τῆς ἰδίας χώρας πρὸς αὐτόν, Ἐλειφὰζ Θαιμανῶν βασιλεύς, Βαλδὰδ Σαυχαίων τύραννος, Σωφὰρ Μειναίων βασιλεύς · καὶ παρεγένοντο πρὸς αὐτὸν ὁμοθυμαδὸν τοῦ παρακαλέσαι καὶ ἐπισκέψασθαι αὐτόν.

Igitur audiéntes tres amíci Iob omne malum, quod accidísset ei, venérunt sínguli de loco suo, Eliphaz Themanítes, et Baldad Suhítes, et Sophar Naamathítes. Condíxerant enim, ut páriter veniéntes visitárent eum, et consolaréntur.

Now when Job ’s three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they came every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him.

וַיִּשְׂא֨וּ אֶת עֵינֵי־הֶ֤ם מֵרָחוֹק֙ וְלֹ֣א הִכִּירֻ֔הוּ וַיִּשְׂא֥וּ קוֹלָ֖ם וַיִּבְכּ֑וּ וַֽיִּקְרְעוּ֙ אִ֣ישׁ מְעִל֔וֹ וַיִּזְרְק֥וּ עָפָ֛ר עַל רָאשֵׁי־הֶ֖ם הַשָּׁמָֽיְמָה׃

ἰδόντες δὲ αὐτὸν πόρρωθεν οὐκ ἐπέγνωσαν, καὶ βοήσαντες φωνῇ μεγάλῃ ἔκλαυσαν, ῥήξαντες ἕκαστος τὴν ἑαυτοῦ στολήν, καὶ καταπασάμενοι γῆν.

Cumque elevássent procul óculos suos, non cognovérunt eum, et exclamántes ploravérunt, scissísque véstibus sparsérunt púlverem super caput suum in cælum.

וַיֵּשְׁב֤וּ אִתּוֹ֙ לָאָ֔רֶץ שִׁבְעַ֥ת יָמִ֖ים וְשִׁבְעַ֣ת לֵיל֑וֹת וְאֵין־דֹּבֵ֤ר אֵלָיו֙ דָּבָ֔ר כִּ֣י רָא֔וּ כִּֽי־גָדַ֥ל הַכְּאֵ֖ב מְאֹֽד׃

παρεκάθισαν αὐτῷ ἑπτὰ ἡμέρας καὶ ἑπτὰ νύκτας, καὶ οὐδεὶς αὐτῶν ἐλάλησεν · ἑώρων γὰρ τὴν πληγὴν δεινὴν οὖσαν καὶ μεγάλην σφόδρα.

Et sedérunt cum eo in terra septem diébus et septem nóctibus, et nemo loquebátur ei verbum: vidébant enim dolórem esse veheméntem.
