וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בַּשִּׁטִּ֑ים וַיָּ֣חֶל הָעָ֔ם לִזְנ֖וֹת אֶל־בְּנ֥וֹת מוֹאָֽב׃

Καὶ κατέλυσεν Ἰσραὴλ ἐν Σαττείν · καὶ ἐβεβηλώθη ὁ λαὸς ἐκπορνεῦσαι εἰς τὰς θυγατέρας Μωάβ.

Morabátur autem eo témpore Israel in Settim, et fornicátus est pópulus cum filiábus Moab,

And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab.

וַתִּקְרֶ֣אןָ לָעָ֔ם לְזִבְחֵ֖י אֱלֹהֵיהֶ֑ן וַיֹּ֣אכַל הָעָ֔ם וַיִּֽשְׁתַּחֲוּ֖וּ לֵֽאלֹהֵיהֶֽן׃

καὶ ἐκάλεσαν αὐτοὺς ἐπὶ ταῖς θυσίαις τῶν εἰδώλων αὐτῶν, καὶ ἔφαγεν ὁ λαὸς τῶν θυσιῶν αὐτῶν καὶ προσεκύνησαν τοῖς εἰδώλοις αὐτῶν,

quæ vocavérunt eos ad sacrifícia sua. At illi comedérunt et adoravérunt deos eárum.

ותקראנה לעם לזבחי אלהיהן ויאכל העם וישׁתחוי לאלהיהן

And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.

καὶ ἐτελέσθη Ἰσραὴλ τῷ Βεελφεγώρ · καὶ ὠργίσθη θυμῷ Κύριος τῷ Ἰσραήλ.

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֗ה קַ֚ח אֶת־כָּל־רָאשֵׁ֣י הָעָ֔ם וְהוֹקַ֥ע אוֹתָ֛ם לַיהוָ֖ה נֶ֣גֶד הַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁ וְיָשֹׁ֛ב חֲר֥וֹן אַף־יְהוָ֖ה מִיִּשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

καὶ εἶπεν Κύριος τῷ Μωυσῇ Λάβε πάντας τοὺς ἀρχηγοὺς τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ παραδειγμάτισον αὐτοὺς Κυρίῳ ἀπέναντι τοῦ ἡλίου, καὶ ἀποστραφήσεται ὀργὴ Κυρίου ἀπὸ Ἰσραήλ.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the LORD against the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Israel.

And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baalpeor.

καὶ ἰδοὺ ἄνθρωπος τῶν υἱῶν Ἰσραὴλ ἐλθὼν προσήγαγεν τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ πρὸς τὴν Μαδιανεῖτιν ἐναντίον Μωυσῆ καὶ ἔναντι πάσης συναγωγῆς υἱῶν Ἰσραήλ, αὐτοὶ δὲ ἔκλαιον παρὰ τὴν θύραν τῆς σκηνῆς τοῦ μαρτυρίου.

Et ecce unus de fíliis Israel intrávit coram frátribus suis ad scortum Madianítidem, vidénte Móyse, et omni turba filiórum Israel, qui flebant ante fores tabernáculi.

והנה אישׁ מבני־ישׂראל בא ויקרב אל אחיו את המדינית לעיני משׁה ולעיני כל־עדת בני־ישׂראל והם בכים פתח אהל מועד

And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who [were] weeping [before] the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

καὶ ἰδὼν Φεινεὲς υἱὸς Ἐλεαζὰρ υἱὸς Ἀαρὼν τοῦ ἱερέως ἐξανέστη ἐκ μέσου τῆς συναγωγῆς, καὶ λαβὼν σειρομάστην ἐν τῇ χειρὶ

Quod cum vidísset Phínees fílius Eleázari fílii Aaron sacerdótis, surréxit de médio multitúdinis, et arrépto pugióne,

וירא פינחס בן־אלעזר בן־אהרן הכהן ויקם מתוך העדה ויקח רמח בידו

And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw [it], he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;

וַ֠יָּבֹא אַחַ֨ר אִֽישׁ־יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל אֶל הַ־קֻּבָּ֗ה וַיִּדְקֹר֙ אֶת שְׁנֵי־הֶ֔ם אֵ֚ת אִ֣ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְאֶת הָ־אִשָּׁ֖ה אֶל קֳבָתָ֑־הּ וַתֵּֽעָצַר֙ הַמַּגֵּפָ֔ה מֵעַ֖ל בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

εἰσῆλθεν ὀπίσω τοῦ ἀνθρώπου τοῦ Ἰσραηλείτου εἰς τὴν κάμινον, καὶ ἀπεκέντησεν ἀμφοτέρους, τόν τε ἄνθρωπον τὸν Ἰσραηλείτην καὶ τὴν γυναῖκα διὰ τῆς μήτρας αὐτῆς · καὶ ἐπαύσατο ἡ πληγὴ ἀπὸ υἱῶν Ἰσραήλ.

ingréssus est post virum Israelítem in lupánar, et perfódit ambos simul, virum scílicet et mulíerem in locis genitálibus. Cessavítque plaga a fíliis Israel:

ויבא אחרי אישׁ־ישׂראל אל הקבה וידקר את שׁניהם את אישׁ־ישׂראל ואת האשׁה על קבתה ותעצר המגפה מעל בני ישׂראל

And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.

פִּֽינְחָ֨ס בֶּן־אֶלְעָזָ֜ר בֶּן־אַהֲרֹ֣ן הַכֹּהֵ֗ן הֵשִׁ֤יב אֶת חֲמָתִ־י֙ מֵעַ֣ל בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בְּקַנְא֥וֹ אֶת קִנְאָתִ֖־י בְּתוֹכָ֑ם וְלֹא־כִלִּ֥יתִי אֶת־בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בְּקִנְאָתִֽי׃

Φινεὲς υἱὸς Ἐλεαζὰρ υἱὸς Ἀαρὼν τοῦ ἱερέως κατέπαυσεν τὸν θυμόν μου ἀπὸ υἱῶν Ἰσραὴλ ἐν τῷ ζηλῶσαί μου τὸν ζῆλον ἐν αὐτοῖς, καὶ οὐκ ἐξανήλωσα τοὺς υἱοὺς Ἰσραὴλ ἐν τῷ ζήλῳ μου.

Phínees fílius Eleázari fílii Aaron sacerdótis avértit iram meam a fíliis Israel: quia zelo meo commótus est contra eos, ut non ipse delérem fílios Israel in zelo meo.

פינחס בן־אלעזר בן־אהרן הכהן השׁיב את חמתי מעל בני־ישׂראל בקנאו את קנאתי בתוכם ולא־כליתי את־בני־ישׂראל בקנאתי

Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.

לָכֵ֖ן אֱמֹ֑ר הִנְנִ֨י נֹתֵ֥ן ל֛וֹ אֶת בְּרִיתִ֖־י שָׁלֽוֹם׃

οὕτως εἰπόν Ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ δίδωμι αὐτῷ διαθήκην εἰρήνης,

וְהָ֤יְתָה לּוֹ֙ וּלְזַרְע֣וֹ אַחֲרָ֔יו בְּרִ֖ית כְּהֻנַּ֣ת עוֹלָ֑ם תַּ֗חַת אֲשֶׁ֤ר קִנֵּא֙ לֵֽאלֹהָ֔יו וַיְכַפֵּ֖ר עַל־בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

καὶ ἔσται αὐτῷ καὶ τῷ σπέρματι αὐτοῦ μετ᾽ αὐτὸν διαθήκη ἱερατίας αἰωνία, ἀνθ᾽ ὧν ἐζήλωσεν τῷ θεῷ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐξιλάσατο περὶ τῶν υἱῶν Ἰσραήλ.

et erit tam ipsi quam sémini eius pactum sacerdótii sempitérnum: quia zelátus est pro Deo suo, et expiávit scelus filiórum Israel.

והיתה לו ולזרעו אחריו ברית כהנת עולם תחת אשׁר קנא לאלהיו ויכפר על־בני ישׂראל

And he shall have it, and his seed after him, [even] the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.

τὸ δὲ ὄνομα τοῦ ἀνθρώπου τοῦ Ἰσραηλείτου τοῦ πεπληγότος, ὃς ἐπλήγη μετὰ τῆς Μαδιανείτιδος, Ζαμβρεί, υἱὸς Σαλμών, ἄρχων οἴκου πατριᾶς τῶν Συμεών.

Erat autem nomen viri Israelítæ, qui occísus est cum Madianítide, Zambri fílius Salu, dux de cognatióne et tribu Simeónis.

Now the name of the Israelite that was slain, [even] that was slain with the Midianitish woman, [was] Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a chief house among the Simeonites.

וְשֵׁ֨ם הָֽאִשָּׁ֧ה הַמֻּכָּ֛ה הַמִּדְיָנִ֖ית כָּזְבִּ֣י בַת־צ֑וּר רֹ֣אשׁ אֻמּ֥וֹת בֵּֽית־אָ֛ב בְּמִדְיָ֖ן הֽוּא׃ פ

καὶ ὄνομα τῇ γυναικὶ τῇ Μαδιανείτιδι τῇ πεπληγυίᾳ Χασβεί, θυγάτηρ Σοὺρ ἄρχοντος ἔθνους Ὀμμόθ · οἴκου πατριᾶς ἐστιν τῶν Μαδιάν.

ושׁם האשׁה המכה המדינית כזבית בת־צור ראשׁ אמת בית־אב במדין הוא

And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain [was] Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he [was] head over a people, [and] of a chief house in Midian.

ὅτι ἐχθραίνουσιν αὐτοὶ ὑμῖν ἐν δολιότητι, ὅσα δολιοῦσιν ὑμᾶς διὰ Φογώρ, καὶ διὰ Χασβεὶ θυγατέρα ἄρχοντος Μαδιὰν ἀδελφὴν αὐτῶν, τὴν πεπληγυῖαν ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῆς πληγῆς διὰ Φογώρ.

quia et ipsi hostíliter egérunt contra vos, et decepére insídiis per idólum Phogor, et Cozbi fíliam ducis Mádian sorórem suam, quæ percússa est in die plagæ pro sacrilégio Phogor.

כי צררים הם לכם בנכליהם אשׁר־נכלו לכם על־דבר־פעור ועל־דבר כזבי בת־נשׂיא מדין אחותם המכה ביום המגפה על־דבר־פעור

For they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, which was slain in the day of the plague for Peor ’s sake.
