מִקֵּ֥ץ שֶֽׁבַע־שָׁנִ֖ים תַּעֲשֶׂ֥ה שְׁמִטָּֽה׃

Δι᾽ ἑπτὰ ἐτῶν ποιήσεις ἄφεσιν.

Séptimo anno fácies remissiónem,

At the end of [every] seven years thou shalt make a release.

וְזֶה֮ דְּבַ֣ר הַשְּׁמִטָּה֒ שָׁמ֗וֹט כָּל־בַּ֨עַל֙ מַשֵּׁ֣ה יָד֔וֹ אֲשֶׁ֥ר יַשֶּׁ֖ה בְּרֵעֵ֑הוּ לֹֽא־יִגֹּ֤שׂ אֶת רֵעֵ֨־הוּ֙ וְאֶת אָחִ֔י־ו כִּֽי־קָרָ֥א שְׁמִטָּ֖ה לַֽיהוָֽה׃

καὶ οὕτως τὸ πρόσταγμα τῆς ἀφέσεως · ἀφήσεις πᾶν χρέος ἴδιον ὃ ὀφείλει σοι ὁ πλησίον, καὶ τὸν ἀδελφόν σου οὐκ ἀπαιτήσεις · ἐπικέκληται γὰρ ἡ ἄφεσις Κυρίῳ τῷ θεῷ σου.

quæ hoc órdine celebrábitur. Cui debétur áliquid ab amíco vel próximo ac fratre suo, repétere non póterit, quia annus remissiónis est Dómini.

וזה דבר השׁמטה שׁמט כל־בעל משׁא ידו אשׁר ישׁא ברעהו לא־יגשׂ את רעהו את אחיו כי־קרא שׁמטה ליהוה
2
And this [is] the manner of the release: Every creditor that lendeth [ought] unto his neighbour shall release [it]; he shall not exact [it] of his neighbour, or of his brother; because it is called the LORD ’S release.

τὸν ἀλλότριον ἀπαιτήσεις ὅσα ἐὰν ᾖ σοι παρ᾽ αὐτῷ, τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ σου ἄφεσιν ποιήσεις τοῦ χρέους σου ·

A peregríno et ádvena éxiges: civem et propínquum repeténdi non habébis potestátem.

Of a foreigner thou mayest exact [it again]: but [that] which is thine with thy brother thine hand shall release;

אֶ֕פֶס כִּ֛י לֹ֥א יִֽהְיֶה בְּ־ךָ֖ אֶבְי֑וֹן כִּֽי־בָרֵ֤ךְ יְבָֽרֶכְךָ֙ יְהוָ֔ה בָּאָ֕רֶץ אֲשֶׁר֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ נֹֽתֵן לְ־ךָ֥ נַחֲלָ֖ה לְרִשְׁתָּֽהּ׃

ὅτι οὐκ ἔσται ἐν σοὶ ἐνδεής, ὅτι εὐλογῶν εὐλογήσει σε Κύριος ὁ θεός σου ἐν τῇ γῇ ᾗ Κύριος ὁ θεός σου δίδωσίν σοι ἐν κλήρῳ κατακληρονομεῖν σε αὐτήν ·

Et omníno índigens et mendícus non erit inter vos: ut benedícat tibi Dóminus Deus tuus in terra, quam traditúrus est tibi in possessiónem.

אפס כי לא יהיה בך אביון כי ברוך יברכך יהוה אלהיך בארץ אשׁר יהוה אלהיך נתן לך נחלה לרשׁתה

Save when there shall be no poor among you; for the LORD shall greatly bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee [for] an inheritance to possess it:

רַ֚ק אִם־שָׁמ֣וֹעַ תִּשְׁמַ֔ע בְּק֖וֹל יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ לִשְׁמֹ֤ר לַעֲשׂוֹת֙ אֶת־כָּל הַ־מִּצְוָ֣ה הַזֹּ֔את אֲשֶׁ֛ר אָנֹכִ֥י מְצַוְּךָ֖ הַיּֽוֹם׃

ἐὰν δὲ ἀκοῇ εἰσακούσητε τῆς φωνῆς Κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ ὑμῶν, φυλάσσειν καὶ ποιεῖν πάσας τὰς ἐντολὰς ταύτας ὅσας ἐγὼ ἐντέλλομαί σοι σήμερον.

Si tamen audíeris vocem Dómini Dei tui, et custodíeris univérsa quæ iussit, et quæ ego hódie præcípio tibi, benedícet tibi, ut pollícitus est.

רק אם שׁמע תשׁמע בקול יהוה אלהיך לשׁמר לעשׂות את־כל המצוה הזאת אשׁר אנכי מצוך היום
5
Only if thou carefully hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all these commandments which I command thee this day.

ὅτι Κύριος ὁ θεός σου εὐλόγησέν σε ὃν τρόπον ἐλάλησέν σοι, καὶ δανιεῖς ἔθνεσιν πολλοῖς, σὺ δὲ οὐ δανιῇ, καὶ ἄρξεις ἐθνῶν πολλῶν, σοῦ δὲ οὐκ ἄρξουσιν.

Fœnerábis géntibus multis, et ipse a nullo accípies mútuum. Domináberis natiónibus plúrimis, et tui nemo dominábitur.

כי־יהוה אלהיך ברכך כאשׁר דבר לך והעבטת גוים רבים ואתה לא תעבט ומשׁלת בגוים רבים ובך לא ימשׁלו
6
For the LORD thy God blesseth thee, as he promised thee: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, but thou shalt not borrow; and thou shalt reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over thee.

Ἐὰν δὲ γένηται ἐν σοὶ ἐνδεὴς τῶν ἀδελφῶν σου ἐν μιᾷ τῶν πόλεων σου ἐν τῇ γῇ ᾗ Κύριος ὁ θεός σου δίδωσίν σοι, οὐκ ἀποστέρξεις τὴν καρδίαν σου, οὐδ᾽ οὐ μὴ συνσφίγξῃς τὴν χεῖρά σου ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ σου τοῦ ἐπιδεομένου ·

Si unus de frátribus tuis, qui morántur intra portas civitátis tuæ in terra, quam Dóminus Deus tuus datúrus est tibi, ad paupertátem vénerit, non obdurábis cor tuum, nec cóntrahes manum,

כי־יהיה בך אביון מאחד אחיך באחת שׁעריך בארץ אשׁר־יהוה אלהיך נתן לך לא תאמץ את לבבך ולא תכפץ את ידך מאחיך האביון

If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother:

כִּֽי־פָתֹ֧חַ תִּפְתַּ֛ח אֶת יָדְ־ךָ֖ ל֑וֹ וְהַעֲבֵט֙ תַּעֲבִיטֶ֔נּוּ דֵּ֚י מַחְסֹר֔וֹ אֲשֶׁ֥ר יֶחְסַ֖ר לֽוֹ׃
8
ἀνοίγων ἀνοίξεις τὰς χεῖράς σου αὐτῷ, δάνιον δανιεῖς αὐτῷ ὅσον ἐπιδέεται, καθότι ἐνδεεῖται.

sed apéries eam páuperi, et dabis mútuum, quo eum indigére perspéxeris.

כי־פתח תפתח ידך לו העביט תעביטנו די מחסרו אשׁר יחסר לו
8
But thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, [in that] which he wanteth.

הִשָּׁ֣מֶר לְךָ֡ פֶּן־יִהְיֶ֣ה דָבָר֩ עִם לְבָבְ־ךָ֨ בְלִיַּ֜עַל לֵאמֹ֗ר קָֽרְבָ֣ה שְׁנַֽת הַ־שֶּׁבַע֮ שְׁנַ֣ת הַשְּׁמִטָּה֒ וְרָעָ֣ה עֵֽינְךָ֗ בְּאָחִ֨יךָ֙ הָֽאֶבְי֔וֹן וְלֹ֥א תִתֵּ֖ן ל֑וֹ וְקָרָ֤א עָלֶ֨יךָ֙ אֶל־יְהוָ֔ה וְהָיָ֥ה בְךָ֖ חֵֽטְא׃

πρόσεχε σεαυτῷ μὴ γένηται ῥῆμα κρυπτὸν ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ σου, ἀνόμημα, λέγων Ἐγγίζει τὸ ἔτος τὸ ἕβδομον, ἔτος τῆς ἀφέσεως, καὶ πονηρεύσηται ὁ ὀφθαλμός σου τῷ ἀδελφῷ σου τῷ ἐπιδεομένῳ, καὶ οὐ δώσεις αὐτῷ, καὶ καταβοήσεται κατὰ σοῦ πρὸς Κύριον, καὶ ἔσται ἐν σοὶ ἁμαρτία μεγάλη.

Cave ne forte subrépat tibi ímpia cogitátio, et dicas in corde tuo: Appropínquat séptimus annus remissiónis: et avértas óculos tuos a páupere fratre tuo, nolens ei quod póstulat mútuum commodáre: ne clamet contra te ad Dóminum, et fiat tibi in peccátum.

השׁמר לך פן־יהיה דבר עם לבבך בלעיל לאמר קרובה שׁנת השׁבעה שׁנת השׁמטה ורעה עינך באחיך האביון ולא תתן לו וקרא עליך אל־יהוה והיה בך חטא

Beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou givest him nought; and he cry unto the LORD against thee, and it be sin unto thee.

נָת֤וֹן תִּתֵּן֙ ל֔וֹ וְלֹא־יֵרַ֥ע לְבָבְךָ֖ בְּתִתְּךָ֣ ל֑וֹ כִּ֞י בִּגְלַ֣ל ׀ הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֗ה יְבָרֶכְךָ֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ בְּכָֽל מַעֲשֶׂ֔־ךָ וּבְכֹ֖ל מִשְׁלַ֥ח יָדֶֽךָ׃

διδοὺς δώσεις αὐτῷ, δάνιον δανιεῖς αὐτῷ ὅσον ἐπιδέεται, καθότι ἐνδεεῖται · καὶ οὐ λυπηθήσῃ τῇ καρδίᾳ σου διδόντος σου αὐτῷ, ὅτι διὰ τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο εὐλογήσει σε Κύριος ὁ θεός σου ἐν πᾶσιν τοῖς ἔργοις καὶ ἐν πᾶσιν οὗ ἂν ἐπιβάλῃς τὴν χεῖρά σου.

Sed dabis ei: nec ages quíppiam cállide in eius necessitátibus sublevándis, ut benedícat tibi Dóminus Deus tuus in omni témpore, et in cunctis ad quæ manum míseris.

נתן תתן לו ולא־ירע בלבבך בתתך לו כי בגלל הדבר הזה יברכך יהוה אלהיך בכל מעשׂיך ובכל משׁלח ידיך
10
Thou shalt surely give him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him: because that for this thing the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thy works, and in all that thou puttest thine hand unto.

οὐ γὰρ μὴ ἐκλίπῃ ἐνδεὴς ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς · διὰ τοῦτο ἐγώ σοι ἐντέλλομαι ποιεῖν τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο λέγων Ἀνοίγων ἀνοίξεις τὰς χεῖράς σου τῷ ἀδελφῷ σου τῷ πένητι καὶ τῷ ἐπιδεομένῳ τῷ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς σου.

Non déerunt páuperes in terra habitatiónis tuæ: idcírco ego præcípio tibi, ut apérias manum fratri tuo egéno et páuperi, qui tecum versátur in terra.

כי לא־יחדל האביון מקרב הארץ על־כן אנכי מצוך לאמר פתח תפתח ידך לאחיך לעניך ולאביונך בארצך

For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.

כִּֽי־יִמָּכֵ֨ר לְךָ֜ אָחִ֣יךָ הָֽעִבְרִ֗י א֚וֹ הָֽעִבְרִיָּ֔ה וַעֲבָֽדְךָ֖ שֵׁ֣שׁ שָׁנִ֑ים וּבַשָּׁנָה֙ הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔ת תְּשַׁלְּחֶ֥נּוּ חָפְשִׁ֖י מֵעִמָּֽךְ׃

Ἐὰν δὲ πραθῇ σοι ὁ ἀδελφός σου ὁ Ἐβραῖος καὶ ἡ Ἐβραία, δουλεύσει σοι ἓξ ἔτη, καὶ τῷ ἑβδόμῳ ἐξαποστελεῖς αὐτὸν ἐλεύθερον ἀπὸ σοῦ.

Cum tibi vénditus fúerit frater tuus Hebrǽus, aut Hebrǽa, et sex annis servíerit tibi, in séptimo anno dimíttes eum líberum:

כי־ימכר לך אחיך העברי או העבריה ועבדך שׁשׁ שׁנים ובשׁנה השׁביעית תשׁלחנו חפשׁי מעמך
12
[And] if thy brother, an Hebrew man, or an Hebrew woman, be sold unto thee, and serve thee six years; then in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free from thee.

וְכִֽי תְשַׁלְּחֶ֥־נּוּ חָפְשִׁ֖י מֵֽעִמָּ֑ךְ לֹ֥א תְשַׁלְּחֶ֖נּוּ רֵיקָֽם׃

ὅταν δὲ ἐξαποστέλλῃς αὐτὸν ἐλεύθερον ἀπὸ σοῦ, οὐκ ἐξαποστελεῖς αὐτὸν κενόν ·

et quem libertáte donáveris, nequáquam vácuum abíre patiéris:

וכי תשׁלחנו חפשׁי מעמך לא תשׁלחנו ריקם

And when thou sendest him out free from thee, thou shalt not let him go away empty:

הַעֲנֵ֤יק תַּעֲנִיק֙ ל֔וֹ מִצֹּ֣אנְךָ֔ וּמִֽגָּרְנְךָ֖ וּמִיִּקְבֶ֑ךָ אֲשֶׁ֧ר בֵּרַכְךָ֛ יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ תִּתֶּן לֽ־וֹ׃
14
ἐφόδιον ἐφοδιάσεις αὐτὸν ἀπὸ τῶν προβάτων σου καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ σίτου σου καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ οἴνου σου · καθὰ εὐλόγησέν σε Κύριος ὁ θεός σου, δώσεις αὐτῷ.

sed dabis viáticum de grégibus, et de área, et torculári tuo, quibus Dóminus Deus tuus benedíxerit tibi.

העניק תעניק לו מצאנך ומגרנך ומיקבך כאשׁר ברכך יהוה אלהיך תתן לו
14
Thou shalt furnish him liberally out of thy flock, and out of thy floor, and out of thy winepress: [of that] wherewith the LORD thy God hath blessed thee thou shalt give unto him.

וְזָכַרְתָּ֗ כִּ֣י עֶ֤בֶד הָיִ֨יתָ֙ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַ֔יִם וַֽיִּפְדְּךָ֖ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ עַל־כֵּ֞ן אָנֹכִ֧י מְצַוְּךָ֛ אֶת הַ־דָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּ֖ה הַיּֽוֹם׃

καὶ μνησθήσῃ ὅτι οἰκέτης ἦσθα ἐν γῇ Αἰγύπτου, καὶ ἐλυτρώσατό σε Κύριος ὁ θεός σου ἐκεῖθεν · διὰ τοῦτο ἐγώ σοι ἐντέλλομαι ποιεῖν τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο.

Meménto quod et ipse servíeris in terra Ægýpti, et liberáverit te Dóminus Deus tuus, et idcírco ego nunc præcípio tibi.

וזכרת כי עבד היית בארץ מצרים ויפדך יהוה אלהיך על־כן אנכי מצוך את הדבר הזה היום

And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee: therefore I command thee this thing to day.

וְהָיָה֙ כִּֽי־יֹאמַ֣ר אֵלֶ֔יךָ לֹ֥א אֵצֵ֖א מֵעִמָּ֑ךְ כִּ֤י אֲהֵֽבְךָ֙ וְאֶת בֵּיתֶ֔־ךָ כִּי־ט֥וֹב ל֖וֹ עִמָּֽךְ׃

ἐὰν δὲ λέγῃ πρὸς σέ Οὐκ ἐξελεύσομαι ἀπὸ σοῦ, ὅτι ἠγάπηκέν σε καὶ τὴν οἰκίαν σου, ὅτι εὖ αὐτῷ ἐστιν παρὰ σοί ·

Sin autem díxerit: Nolo égredi: eo quod díligat te, et domum tuam, et bene sibi apud te esse séntiat:

והיה כי־יאמר אליך לא אצא מעמך כי אהבך ואת ביתך כי־טוב לו עמך

And it shall be, if he say unto thee, I will not go away from thee; because he loveth thee and thine house, because he is well with thee;

וְלָקַחְתָּ֣ אֶת הַ־מַּרְצֵ֗עַ וְנָתַתָּ֤ה בְאָזְנוֹ֙ וּבַדֶּ֔לֶת וְהָיָ֥ה לְךָ֖ עֶ֣בֶד עוֹלָ֑ם וְאַ֥ף לַאֲמָתְךָ֖ תַּעֲשֶׂה־כֵּֽן׃

καὶ λήμψῃ τὸ ὀπήτιον καὶ τρυπήσεις τὸ ὠτίον αὐτοῦ πρὸς τὴν θύραν, καὶ ἔσται σοι οἰκέτης εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα · καὶ τὴν παιδίσκην σου ποιήσεις ὡσαύτως.

assúmes súbulam, et perforábis aurem eius in iánua domus tuæ, et sérviet tibi usque in ætérnum: ancíllæ quoque simíliter fácies.

ולקחת את המרצע ונתתה באזנו ובדלת והיה לך עבד עולם ואף לאמתך תעשׂה־כן

οὐ σκληρὸν ἔσται ἐναντίον σου ἐξαποστελλομένων αὐτῶν ἐλευθέρων ἀπὸ σοῦ, ὅτι ἐφέτιον μισθὸν τοῦ μισθωτοῦ ἐδούλευσέν σοι ἓξ ἔτη · καὶ εὐλογήσει σε Κύριος ὁ θεός σου ἐν πᾶσιν οἷς ἐὰν ποιῇς.

Non avértas ab eis óculos tuos, quando dimíseris eos líberos, quóniam iuxta mercédem mercenárii per sex annos servívit tibi: ut benedícat tibi Dóminus Deus tuus in cunctis opéribus quæ agis.

It shall not seem hard unto thee, when thou sendest him away free from thee; for he hath been worth a double hired servant [to thee], in serving thee six years: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all that thou doest.
