וַיִּסַּ֨ע מִשָּׁ֤ם אַבְרָהָם֙ אַ֣רְצָה הַנֶּ֔גֶב וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב בֵּין־קָדֵ֖שׁ וּבֵ֣ין שׁ֑וּר וַיָּ֖גָר בִּגְרָֽר׃

Καὶ ἐκίνησεν ἐκεῖθεν Ἀβραὰμ εἰς γῆν πρὸς λίβα, καὶ ᾤκησεν ἀνὰ μέσον Καδὴς καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον Σούρ · καὶ παρῴκησεν ἐν Γεράροις.

ויסע משׁם אברהם ארץ הנגב וישׁב בין־קדשׁ ובין שׁור ויגר בגרר

And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the south country, and dwelled between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar.

וַיֹּ֧אמֶר אַבְרָהָ֛ם אֶל־שָׂרָ֥ה אִשְׁתּ֖וֹ אֲחֹ֣תִי הִ֑וא וַיִּשְׁלַ֗ח אֲבִימֶ֨לֶךְ֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ גְּרָ֔ר וַיִּקַּ֖ח אֶת־שָׂרָֽה׃

εἶπεν δὲ Ἀβραὰμ περὶ Σάρρας τῆς γυναικὸς αὐτοῦ ὅτι Ἀδελφή μού ἐστιν · ἐφοβήθη γὰρ εἰπεῖν ὅτι Γυνή μού ἐστιν, μή ποτε ἀποκτείνωσιν αὐτὸν οἱ ἄνδρες τῆς πόλεως δι᾽ αὐτήν. ἀπέστειλεν δὲ Ἀβιμέλεχ βασιλεὺς Γεράρων καὶ ἔλαβεν τὴν Σάρραν.

Dixítque de Sara uxóre sua: Soror mea est. Misit ergo Abímelech rex Geráræ, et tulit eam.

ויאמר אברהם אל־שׂרה אשׁתו אחותי היא וישׁלח אבימלך מלך גרר ויקח את־שׂרה

And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She [is] my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.

וַיָּבֹ֧א אֱלֹהִ֛ים אֶל־אֲבִימֶ֖לֶךְ בַּחֲל֣וֹם הַלָּ֑יְלָה וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֗וֹ הִנְּךָ֥ מֵת֙ עַל הָ־אִשָּׁ֣ה אֲשֶׁר־לָקַ֔חְתָּ וְהִ֖וא בְּעֻ֥לַת בָּֽעַל׃

καὶ εἰσῆλθεν ὁ θεὸς πρὸς Ἀβιμέλεχ ἐν ὕπνῳ τὴν νύκτα, καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ἰδοὺ σὺ ἀποθνήσκεις περὶ τῆς γυναικὸς ἧς ἔλαβες · αὕτη δέ ἐστιν συνῳκηκυῖα ἀνδρί.

Venit autem Deus ad Abímelech per sómnium nocte, et ait illi: En moriéris propter mulíerem quam tulísti: habet enim virum.

ויבא אלהים אל־אבימלך בחלום הלילה ויאמר לו הנך מת על אדות האשׁה אשׁר־לקחת והיא בעילת בעל

But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou [art but] a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she [is] a man ’s wife.

וַאֲבִימֶ֕לֶךְ לֹ֥א קָרַ֖ב אֵלֶ֑יהָ וַיֹּאמַ֕ר אֲדֹנָ֕י הֲג֥וֹי גַּם־צַדִּ֖יק תַּהֲרֹֽג׃

Ἀβιμέλεχ δὲ οὐχ ἥψατο αὐτῆς, καὶ εἶπεν Κύριε, ἔθνος ἀγνοοῦν καὶ δίκαιον ἀπολεῖς;

Abímelech vero non tetígerat eam, et ait: Dómine, num gentem ignorántem et iustam interfícies?

ואבימלך לא קרב אליה ויאמר אדני הגוי גם־צדיק תהרג

But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord, wilt thou slay also a righteous nation?

הֲלֹ֨א ה֤וּא אָֽמַר לִ־י֙ אֲחֹ֣תִי הִ֔וא וְהִֽיא־גַם־הִ֥וא אָֽמְרָ֖ה אָחִ֣י ה֑וּא בְּתָם לְבָבִ֛־י וּבְנִקְיֹ֥ן כַּפַּ֖י עָשִׂ֥יתִי זֹֽאת׃
5
οὐκ αὐτός μοι εἶπεν Ἀδελφή μού ἐστιν; καὶ αὕτη μοι εἶπεν Ἀδελφός μού ἐστιν · ἐν καθαρᾷ καρδίᾳ καὶ ἐν δικαιοσύνῃ χειρῶν ἐποίησα τοῦτο.

Nonne ipse dixit mihi: Soror mea est: et ipsa ait: Frater meus est? in simplicitáte cordis mei, et mundítia mánuum meárum feci hoc.

הלוא הוא אמר לי אחותי היא והיא־גם אמרה אחי הוא בתם לבבי ובנקיון כפי עשׂיתי זאת

Said he not unto me, She [is] my sister? and she, even she herself said, He [is] my brother: in the integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands have I done this.

וַיֹּאמֶר֩ אֵלָ֨יו הָֽאֱלֹהִ֜ים בַּחֲלֹ֗ם גַּ֣ם אָנֹכִ֤י יָדַ֨עְתִּי֙ כִּ֤י בְתָם לְבָבְ־ךָ֙ עָשִׂ֣יתָ זֹּ֔את וָאֶחְשֹׂ֧ךְ גַּם־אָנֹכִ֛י אֽוֹתְךָ֖ מֵחֲטוֹ לִ֑־י עַל־כֵּ֥ן לֹא נְתַתִּ֖י־ךָ לִנְגֹּ֥עַ אֵלֶֽיהָ׃

εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ ὁ θεὸς καθ᾽ ὕπνον Κἀγὼ ἔγνων ὅτι ἐν καθαρᾷ καρδίᾳ ἐποίησας τοῦτο, καὶ ἐφεισάμην ἐγώ σου τοῦ μὴ ἁμαρτεῖν σε εἰς ἐμέ · ἕνεκεν τούτου οὐκ ἀφῆκά σε ἅψασθαι αὐτῆς.

Dixítque ad eum Deus: Et ego scio quod símplici corde féceris: et ídeo custodívi te ne peccáres in me, et non dimísi ut tángeres eam.

ויאמר אליו האלהים בחלום גם־אנכי ידעתי כי בתם לבבך עשׂית זאת ואחשׂך גם־אנכי אתך מחטאה לי על־כן לא נתתיך לנגע אליה

And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.

וְעַתָּ֗ה הָשֵׁ֤ב אֵֽשֶׁת הָ־אִישׁ֙ כִּֽי־נָבִ֣יא ה֔וּא וְיִתְפַּלֵּ֥ל בַּֽעַדְךָ֖ וֶֽחְיֵ֑ה וְאִם אֵֽינְ־ךָ֣ מֵשִׁ֗יב דַּ֚ע כִּי־מ֣וֹת תָּמ֔וּת אַתָּ֖ה וְכָל־אֲשֶׁר לָֽ־ךְ׃
7
νῦν δὲ ἀπόδος τὴν γυναῖκα τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ, ὅτι προφήτης ἐστὶν καὶ προσεύξεται περὶ σοῦ, καὶ ζήσῃ · εἰ δὲ μὴ ἀποδίδως, γνῶθι ὅτι ἀποθανῇ σὺ καὶ πάντα τὰ σά.

Nunc ergo redde viro suo uxórem, quia prophéta est: et orábit pro te, et vives: si autem nolúeris réddere, scito quod morte moriéris tu, et ómnia quæ tua sunt.

ועתה השׁב את אשׁת האישׁ כי־נביא הוא ויתפלל בעדך וחיה ואם אינך משׁיב דע כי־מות תמות אתה וכל־אשׁר לך
7
Now therefore restore the man [his] wife; for he [is] a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore [her] not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that [are] thine.

וַיַּשְׁכֵּ֨ם אֲבִימֶ֜לֶךְ בַּבֹּ֗קֶר וַיִּקְרָא֙ לְכָל עֲבָדָ֔י־ו וַיְדַבֵּ֛ר אֶת־כָּל הַ־דְּבָרִ֥ים הָאֵ֖לֶּה בְּאָזְנֵיהֶ֑ם וַיִּֽירְא֥וּ הָאֲנָשִׁ֖ים מְאֹֽד׃

καὶ ὤρθρισεν Ἀβιμέλεχ τὸ πρωὶ καὶ ἐκάλεσεν πάντας τοὺς παῖδας αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐλάλησεν πάντα τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα εἰς τὰ ὦτα αὐτῶν · ἐφοβήθησαν δὲ πάντες οἱ ἄνθρωποι σφόδρα.

Statímque de nocte consúrgens Abímelech, vocávit omnes servos suos: et locútus est univérsa verba hæc in áuribus eórum, timuerúntque omnes viri valde.

וישׁכם אבימלך בבקר ויקרא לכל עבדיו וידבר את־כל הדברים האלה באזניהם וייראו כל האנשׁים מאד

Therefore Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears: and the men were sore afraid.

וַיִּקְרָ֨א אֲבִימֶ֜לֶךְ לְאַבְרָהָ֗ם וַיֹּ֨אמֶר ל֜וֹ מֶֽה־עָשִׂ֤יתָ לָּ֨נוּ֙ וּמֶֽה־חָטָ֣אתִי לָ֔ךְ כִּֽי־הֵבֵ֧אתָ עָלַ֛י וְעַל מַמְלַכְתִּ֖־י חֲטָאָ֣ה גְדֹלָ֑ה מַעֲשִׂים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹא־יֵֽעָשׂ֔וּ עָשִׂ֖יתָ עִמָּדִֽי׃

καὶ ἐκάλεσεν Ἀβιμέλεχ τὸν Ἀβραὰμ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Τί τοῦτο ἐποίησας ἡμῖν; μή τι ἡμάρτομεν εἰς σέ, ὅτι ἐπήγαγες ἐπ᾽ ἐμὲ καὶ ἐπὶ τὴν βασιλείαν μου ἁμαρτίαν μεγάλην; ἔργον ὃ οὐδεὶς ποιήσει πεποίηκάς μοι.

Vocávit autem Abímelech étiam Abraham, et dixit ei: Quid fecísti nobis? quid peccávimus in te, quia induxísti super me et super regnum meum peccátum grande? quæ non debuísti fácere, fecísti nobis.

ויקרא אבימלך לאברהם ויאמר לו מה־עשׂית לנו ומה־חטאתי לך כי־הבאת עלי ועל ממלכתי חטאה גדלה מעשׂים אשׁר לא יעשׂון עשׂית עמדי

Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us? and what have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֲבִימֶ֖לֶךְ אֶל־אַבְרָהָ֑ם מָ֣ה רָאִ֔יתָ כִּ֥י עָשִׂ֖יתָ אֶת הַ־דָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּֽה׃
10
εἶπεν δὲ Ἀβιμέλεχ τῷ Ἀβραάμ Τί ἐνιδὼν ἐποίησας τοῦτο;

Rursúmque expóstulans, ait: Quid vidísti, ut hoc fáceres?

ויאמר אבימלך אל־אברהם מה ראית כי עשׂית את הדבר הזה

And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing?

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר֙ אַבְרָהָ֔ם כִּ֣י אָמַ֗רְתִּי רַ֚ק אֵין־יִרְאַ֣ת אֱלֹהִ֔ים בַּמָּק֖וֹם הַזֶּ֑ה וַהֲרָג֖וּנִי עַל־דְּבַ֥ר אִשְׁתִּֽי׃
11
εἶπεν δὲ Ἀβραάμ Εἶπα γάρ Ἄρα οὐκ ἔστιν θεοσέβεια ἐν τῷ τόπῳ, τούτῳ, ἐμέ τε ἀποκτενοῦσιν ἕνεκεν τῆς γυναικός μου.

Respóndit Abraham: Cogitávi mecum, dicens: Fórsitan non est timor Dei in loco isto: et interfícient me propter uxórem meam:

ויאמר אברהם כי יראתי כי אמרתי רק אין־יראת אלהים במקום הזה והרגוני על־דבר אשׁתי

And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God [is] not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife ’s sake.

וְגַם־אָמְנָ֗ה אֲחֹתִ֤י בַת אָבִ־י֙ הִ֔וא אַ֖ךְ לֹ֣א בַת אִמִּ֑־י וַתְּהִי לִ֖־י לְאִשָּֽׁה׃

καὶ γὰρ ἀληθῶς ἀδελφή μού ἐστιν ἐκ πατρός, ἀλλ᾽ οὐκ ἐκ μητρός · ἐγενήθη δέ μοι εἰς γυναῖκα.

álias autem et vere soror mea est, fília patris mei, et non fília matris meæ, et duxi eam in uxórem.

וגם האמנם אחותי היא בת אבי אך לא בת אמי ותהי לי לאשׁה

And yet indeed [she is] my sister; she [is] the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.

וַיְהִ֞י כַּאֲשֶׁ֧ר הִתְע֣וּ אֹתִ֗י אֱלֹהִים֮ מִבֵּ֣ית אָבִי֒ וָאֹמַ֣ר לָ֔הּ זֶ֣ה חַסְדֵּ֔ךְ אֲשֶׁ֥ר תַּעֲשִׂ֖י עִמָּדִ֑י אֶ֤ל כָּל הַ־מָּקוֹם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר נָב֣וֹא שָׁ֔מָּה אִמְרִי לִ֖־י אָחִ֥י הֽוּא׃

ἐγένετο δὲ ἡνίκα ἐξήγαγέν με ὁ θεὸς ἐκ τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ πατρός μου καὶ εἶπα αὐτῇ Ταύτην τὴν δικαιοσύνην ποίησον ἐπ᾽ ἐμέ · εἰς πάντα τόπον οὗ ἐὰν εἰσέλθωμεν ἐκεῖ, εἰπὸν ἐμὲ ὅτι Ἀδελφός μού ἐστιν.

Postquam autem edúxit me Deus de domo patris mei, dixi ad eam: Hanc misericórdiam fácies mecum: in omni loco, ad quem ingrediémur, dices quod frater tuus sim.

ויהי כאשׁר התעה אתי אלהים מבית אבי ומארץ מולדתי ואמר לה זה חסדיך אשׁר תעשׂין עמדי אל כל המקום אשׁר נבוא שׁמה אמרי לי אחי הוא

And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father ’s house, that I said unto her, This [is] thy kindness which thou shalt shew unto me; at every place whither we shall come, say of me, He [is] my brother.

וַיִּקַּ֨ח אֲבִימֶ֜לֶךְ צֹ֣אן וּבָקָ֗ר וַעֲבָדִים֙ וּשְׁפָחֹ֔ת וַיִּתֵּ֖ן לְאַבְרָהָ֑ם וַיָּ֣שֶׁב ל֔וֹ אֵ֖ת שָׂרָ֥ה אִשְׁתּֽוֹ׃

ἔλαβεν δὲ Ἀβιμέλεχ χίλια δίδραχμα, πρόβατα καὶ μόσχους καὶ παῖδας καὶ παιδίσκας, καὶ ἔδωκεν τῷ Ἀβράμ · καὶ ἀπέδωκεν αὐτῷ Σάρραν τήν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ.

Tulit ígitur Abímelech oves et boves, et servos et ancíllas, et dedit Abraham: reddidítque illi Saram uxórem suam,

ויקח אבימלך אלף כסף וצאן ובקר ועבדים ושׁפחות ויתן לאברהם וישׁב לו את שׂרה אשׁתו

And Abimelech took sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and womenservants, and gave [them] unto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife.

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲבִימֶ֔לֶךְ הִנֵּ֥ה אַרְצִ֖י לְפָנֶ֑יךָ בַּטּ֥וֹב בְּעֵינֶ֖יךָ שֵֽׁב׃

καὶ εἶπεν Ἀβιμέλεχ τῷ Ἀβραάμ Ἰδοὺ ἡ γῆ μου ἐναντίον σου · οὗ ἐάν σοι ἀρέσκῃ κατοίκει.

et ait: Terra coram vobis est, ubicúmque tibi placúerit hábita.

ויאמר אבימלך הנה ארצי לפניך בטוב בעיניך שׁב

And Abimelech said, Behold, my land [is] before thee: dwell where it pleaseth thee.

וּלְשָׂרָ֣ה אָמַ֗ר הִנֵּ֨ה נָתַ֜תִּי אֶ֤לֶף כֶּ֨סֶף֙ לְאָחִ֔יךְ הִנֵּ֤ה הוּא לָ־ךְ֙ כְּס֣וּת עֵינַ֔יִם לְכֹ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֣ר אִתָּ֑ךְ וְאֵ֥ת כֹּ֖ל וְנֹכָֽחַת׃

τῇ δὲ Σάρρᾳ εἶπεν Ἰδοὺ δέδωκα χίλια δίδραχμα τῷ ἀδελφῷ σου · ταῦτα ἔσται σοι εἰς τιμὴν τοῦ προσώπου σου καὶ πάσαις ταῖς μετὰ σοῦ · καὶ πάντα ἀλήθευσον.

Saræ autem dixit: Ecce mille argénteos dedi fratri tuo, hoc erit tibi in velámen oculórum ad omnes qui tecum sunt, et quocúmque perréxeris: mementóque te deprehénsam.

ולשׂרה אמר הנה נתתי אלף כסף לאחיך הנה הוא ליך כסות עינים ולכל אשׁר אתיך ואת הכל ונוכחת

And unto Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand [pieces] of silver: behold, he [is] to thee a covering of the eyes, unto all that [are] with thee, and with all [other]: thus she was reproved.

וַיִּתְפַּלֵּ֥ל אַבְרָהָ֖ם אֶל הָ־אֱלֹהִ֑ים וַיִּרְפָּ֨א אֱלֹהִ֜ים אֶת־אֲבִימֶ֧לֶךְ וְאֶת אִשְׁתּ֛־וֹ וְאַמְהֹתָ֖יו וַיֵּלֵֽדוּ׃
17
προσηύξατο δὲ Ἀβραὰμ πρὸς τὸν θεόν, καὶ ἰάσατο ὁ θεὸς τὸν Ἀβιμέλεχ καὶ τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰς παιδίσκας αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἔτεκον ·

Oránte autem Abraham, sanávit Deus Abímelech et uxórem, ancillásque eius, et peperérunt:

ויתפלל אברהם אל האלהים וירפא אלהים את־אבימלך ואת אשׁתו ואמתיו וילדו

So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare [children].

כִּֽי־עָצֹ֤ר עָצַר֙ יְהוָ֔ה בְּעַ֥ד כָּל־רֶ֖חֶם לְבֵ֣ית אֲבִימֶ֑לֶךְ עַל־דְּבַ֥ר שָׂרָ֖ה אֵ֥שֶׁת אַבְרָהָֽם׃ ס
18
ὅτι συνέκλεισεν Κύριος ἔξωθεν πᾶσαν μήτραν ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ τοῦ Ἀβιμέλεχ ἕνεκεν Σάρρας τῆς γυναικὸς Ἀβραάμ.

conclúserat enim Dóminus omnem vulvam domus Abímelech propter Saram uxórem Abrahæ.

כי־עצר עצר אלהים בעד כל־רחם לבית אבימלך על־דבר שׂרה אשׁת אברהם

For the LORD had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham ’s wife.
