וַיְהִ֤י רָעָב֙ בָּאָ֔רֶץ מִלְּבַד֙ הָרָעָ֣ב הָרִאשׁ֔וֹן אֲשֶׁ֥ר הָיָ֖ה בִּימֵ֣י אַבְרָהָ֑ם וַיֵּ֧לֶךְ יִצְחָ֛ק אֶל־אֲבִימֶּ֥לֶךְ מֶֽלֶךְ־פְּלִשְׁתִּ֖ים גְּרָֽרָה׃

Ἐγένετο δὲ λιμὸς ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, χωρὶς τοῦ λιμοῦ τοῦ πρότερον ὃς ἐγενήθη ἐν τῷ χρόνῳ τοῦ Ἀβραάμ · ἐπορεύθη δὲ Ἰσαὰκ πρὸς Ἀβιμέλεχ βασιλέα Φυλιστιεὶμ εἰς Γέραρα.

Orta autem fame super terram post eam sterilitátem, quæ accíderat in diébus Abraham, ábiit Isaac ad Abímelech regem Palæstinórum in Gerára.

ויהי רעב בארץ מלבד הרעב הראישׁון אשׁר היה בימי אברהם וילך יצחק אל־אבימלך מלך־פלשׁתים גררה

And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar.

וַיֵּרָ֤א אֵלָיו֙ יְהוָ֔ה וַיֹּ֖אמֶר אַל־תֵּרֵ֣ד מִצְרָ֑יְמָה שְׁכֹ֣ן בָּאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֖ר אֹמַ֥ר אֵלֶֽיךָ׃

ὤφθη δὲ αὐτῷ Κύριος καὶ εἶπεν Μὴ καταβῇς εἰς Αἴγυπτον · κατοίκησον δὲ ἐν τῇ γῇ ᾗ ἄν σοι εἴπω.

Apparuítque ei Dóminus, et ait: Ne descéndas in Ægýptum, sed quiésce in terra, quam díxero tibi.

וירא אליו יהוה ויאמר אל־תרד מצרימה שׁכן בארץ אשׁר אמר אליך

And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:

גּ֚וּר בָּאָ֣רֶץ הַזֹּ֔את וְאֶֽהְיֶ֥ה עִמְּךָ֖ וַאֲבָרְכֶ֑ךָּ כִּֽי לְ־ךָ֣ וּֽלְזַרְעֲךָ֗ אֶתֵּן֙ אֶת־כָּל הָֽ־אֲרָצֹ֣ת הָאֵ֔ל וַהֲקִֽמֹתִי֙ אֶת הַ־שְּׁבֻעָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר נִשְׁבַּ֖עְתִּי לְאַבְרָהָ֥ם אָבִֽיךָ׃

καὶ παροίκει ἐν τῇ γῇ ταύτῃ καὶ ἔσομαι μετὰ σοῦ καὶ εὐλογήσω σε · σοὶ γὰρ καὶ τῷ σπέρματί σου δώσω πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν ταύτην, καὶ στήσω τὸν ὅρκον μου ὃν ὤμοσα Ἀβραὰμ τῷ πατρί σου.

Et peregrináre in ea: eróque tecum, et benedícam tibi: tibi enim et sémini tuo dabo univérsas regiónes has, complens iuraméntum quod spopóndi Abraham patri tuo.

גר בארץ הזאת ואהיה עמך ואברכך כי לך ולזרעך אתן את־כל הארצות האלה והקמתי את השׁבועה אשׁר נשׁבעתי לאברהם אביך

Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father;

וְהִרְבֵּיתִ֤י אֶֽת זַרְעֲ־ךָ֙ כְּכוֹכְבֵ֣י הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם וְנָתַתִּ֣י לְזַרְעֲךָ֔ אֵ֥ת כָּל הָ־אֲרָצֹ֖ת הָאֵ֑ל וְהִתְבָּרֲכ֣וּ בְזַרְעֲךָ֔ כֹּ֖ל גּוֹיֵ֥י הָאָֽרֶץ׃

καὶ πληθυνῶ τὸ σπέρμα σου ὡς τοὺς ἀστέρας τοῦ οὐρανοῦ, καὶ δώσω τῷ σπέρματί σου πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν ταύτην, καὶ ἐνευλογηθήσονται ἐν τῷ σπέρματί σου πάντα τὰ ἔθνη τῆς γῆς ·

Et multiplicábo semen tuum sicut stellas cæli: dabóque pósteris tuis univérsas regiónes has: et benedicéntur in sémine tuo omnes gentes terræ,

והרביתי את זרעך ככוכבי השׁמים ונתתי לזרעך את כל הארצות האלה והתברכו בזרעך כל גוי הארץ
4
And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;

עֵ֕קֶב אֲשֶׁר־שָׁמַ֥ע אַבְרָהָ֖ם בְּקֹלִ֑י וַיִּשְׁמֹר֙ מִשְׁמַרְתִּ֔י מִצְוֺתַ֖י חֻקּוֹתַ֥י וְתוֹרֹתָֽי׃
5
ἀνθ᾽ ὧν ὑπήκουσεν Ἀβραὰμ ὁ πατήρ σου τῆς ἐμῆς φωνῆς, καὶ ἐφύλαξεν τὰ προστάγματά μου καὶ τὰς ἐντολάς μου καὶ τὰ δικαιώματά μου καὶ τὰ νόμιμά μου.

eo quod obedíerit Abraham voci meæ, et custodíerit præcépta et mandáta mea, et cæremónias legésque serváverit.

עקב אשׁר־שׁמע אברהם אביך בקולי וישׁמר משׁמרתי מצותי חקותי ותורותי

Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

וַֽיִּשְׁאֲל֞וּ אַנְשֵׁ֤י הַמָּקוֹם֙ לְאִשְׁתּ֔וֹ וַיֹּ֖אמֶר אֲחֹ֣תִי הִ֑וא כִּ֤י יָרֵא֙ לֵאמֹ֣ר אִשְׁתִּ֔י פֶּן יַֽהַרְגֻ֜־נִי אַנְשֵׁ֤י הַמָּקוֹם֙ עַל־רִבְקָ֔ה כִּֽי־טוֹבַ֥ת מַרְאֶ֖ה הִֽיא׃

ἐπηρώτησαν δὲ οἱ ἄνδρες τοῦ τόπου περὶ Ῥεβέκκας τῆς γυναικὸς αὐτοῦ, καὶ εἶπεν ὅτι Ἀδελφή μού ἐστιν · ἐφοβήθη γὰρ εἰπεῖν ὅτι Γυνή μού ἐστιν, μή ποτε ἀποκτείνωσιν αὐτὸν οἱ ἄνδρες τοῦ τόπου περὶ Ῥεβέκκας, ὅτι ὡραία τῇ ὄψει ἦν.

Qui cum interrogarétur a viris loci illíus super uxóre sua, respóndit: Soror mea est: timúerat enim confitéri quod sibi esset sociáta coniúgio, réputans ne forte interfícerent eum propter illíus pulchritúdinem.

וישׁאלו אנשׁי המקום על אשׁתו ויאמר אחותי היא כי ירא לאמר אשׁתי היא פן יהרגוני אנשׁי המקום על־רבקה כי־טובת מראה היא

And the men of the place asked [him] of his wife; and he said, She [is] my sister: for he feared to say, [She is] my wife; lest, [said he], the men of the place should kill me for Rebekah; because she [was] fair to look upon.

וַיְהִ֗י כִּ֣י אָֽרְכוּ ל֥־וֹ שָׁם֙ הַיָּמִ֔ים וַיַּשְׁקֵ֗ף אֲבִימֶ֨לֶךְ֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים בְּעַ֖ד הַֽחַלּ֑וֹן וַיַּ֗רְא וְהִנֵּ֤ה יִצְחָק֙ מְצַחֵ֔ק אֵ֖ת רִבְקָ֥ה אִשְׁתּֽוֹ׃

ἐγένετο δὲ πολυχρόνιος ἐκεῖ · παρακύψας δὲ Ἀβιμέλεχ ὁ βασιλεὺς Γεράρων διὰ τῆς θυρίδος ἴδεν τὸν Ἰσαὰκ παίζοντα μετὰ Ῥεβέκκας τῆς γυναικὸς αὐτοῦ.

Cumque pertransíssent dies plúrimi, et ibídem morarétur, prospíciens Abímelech rex Palæstinórum per fenéstram, vidit eum iocántem cum Rebécca uxóre sua.

ויהי כאשׁר הרכו לו שׁם הימים וישׁקף אבימלך מלך פלשׁתים בעד החלון וירא והנה יצחק מצחק את רבקה אשׁתו

And it came to pass, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac [was] sporting with Rebekah his wife.

וַיִּקְרָ֨א אֲבִימֶ֜לֶךְ לְיִצְחָ֗ק וַיֹּ֨אמֶר֙ אַ֣ךְ הִנֵּ֤ה אִשְׁתְּךָ֙ הִ֔וא וְאֵ֥יךְ אָמַ֖רְתָּ אֲחֹ֣תִי הִ֑וא וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֵלָיו֙ יִצְחָ֔ק כִּ֣י אָמַ֔רְתִּי פֶּן־אָמ֖וּת עָלֶֽיהָ׃

ἐκάλεσεν δὲ Ἀβιμέλεχ τὸν Ἰσαὰκ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ἄρα γε γυνή σού ἐστιν · τί ὅτι εἶπας Ἀδελφή μού ἐστιν; εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ Ἰσαάκ Εἶπα γάρ Μή ποτε ἀποθάνω δι᾽ αὐτήν.

Et accersíto eo, ait: Perspícuum est quod uxor tua sit: cur mentítus es eam sorórem tuam esse? Respóndit: Tímui ne mórerer propter eam.

ויקרא אבימלך ליצחק ויאמר אך הנה אשׁתך היא ואיך אמרת אחותי היא ויאמר אליו יצחק כי אמרתי פן־אמות עליה

And Abimelech called Isaac, and said, Behold, of a surety she [is] thy wife: and how saidst thou, She [is] my sister? And Isaac said unto him, Because I said, Lest I die for her.

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲבִימֶ֔לֶךְ מַה־זֹּ֖את עָשִׂ֣יתָ לָּ֑נוּ כִּ֠מְעַט שָׁכַ֞ב אַחַ֤ד הָעָם֙ אֶת אִשְׁתֶּ֔־ךָ וְהֵבֵאתָ֥ עָלֵ֖ינוּ אָשָֽׁם׃
10
εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ Ἀβιμέλεχ Τί τοῦτο ἐποίησας ἡμῖν; μικροῦ ἐκοιμήθη τις τοῦ γένους μου μετὰ τῆς γυναικός σου, καὶ ἐπήγαγες ἐφ᾽ ἡμᾶς ἄγνοιαν.

Dixítque Abímelech: Quare imposuísti nobis? pótuit coíre quíspiam de pópulo cum uxóre tua, et indúxeras super nos grande peccátum. Præcepítque omni pópulo, dicens:

ויאמר אבימלך מה־זאת עשׂית לנו כמעט שׁכב אחד העם את אשׁתך והבאת עלינו אשׁם
10
And Abimelech said, What [is] this thou hast done unto us? one of the people might lightly have lien with thy wife, and thou shouldest have brought guiltiness upon us.

וַיְצַ֣ו אֲבִימֶ֔לֶךְ אֶת־כָּל הָ־עָ֖ם לֵאמֹ֑ר הַנֹּגֵ֜עַ בָּאִ֥ישׁ הַזֶּ֛ה וּבְאִשְׁתּ֖וֹ מ֥וֹת יוּמָֽת׃
11
συνέταξεν δὲ Ἀβιμέλεχ παντὶ τῷ λαῷ αὐτοῦ λέγων Πᾶς ὁ ἁπτόμενος τοῦ ἀνθρώπου τούτου ἢ τῆς γυναικὸς αὐτοῦ θανάτου ἔνοχος ἔσται.

Qui tetígerit hóminis huius uxórem, morte moriétur.

ויצו אבימלך את־כל עמו לאמר הנגע באישׁ הזה ובאשׁתו מות יומת

And Abimelech charged all [his] people, saying, He that toucheth this man or his wife shall surely be put to death.

וַיִּזְרַ֤ע יִצְחָק֙ בָּאָ֣רֶץ הַהִ֔וא וַיִּמְצָ֛א בַּשָּׁנָ֥ה הַהִ֖וא מֵאָ֣ה שְׁעָרִ֑ים וַֽיְבָרֲכֵ֖הוּ יְהוָֽה׃

ἔσπειρεν δὲ Ἰσαὰκ ἐν τῇ γῇ ἐκείνῃ, καὶ εὗρεν ἐν τῷ ἐνιαυτῷ ἐκείνῳ ἑκατοστεύουσαν κριθήν · εὐλόγησεν δὲ αὐτὸν Κύριος.

Sevit autem Isaac in terra illa, et invénit in ipso anno céntuplum: benedixítque ei Dóminus.

ויזרע יצחק בארץ ההיא וימצא בשׁנה ההיא מאה שׁערים ויברכהו יהוה

Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.

וַיִּגְדַּ֖ל הָאִ֑ישׁ וַיֵּ֤לֶךְ הָלוֹךְ֙ וְגָדֵ֔ל עַ֥ד כִּֽי־גָדַ֖ל מְאֹֽד׃

καὶ ὑψώθη ὁ ἄνθρωπος, καὶ προβαίνων μείζων ἐγίνετο ἕως οὗ μέγας ἐγίνετο σφόδρα ·

Et locupletátus est homo, et ibat profíciens atque succréscens, donec magnus veheménter efféctus est:

ויגדל האישׁ וילך הלך וגדל עד כי־גדל מאד

And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great:

וַֽיְהִי ל֤־וֹ מִקְנֵה־צֹאן֙ וּמִקְנֵ֣ה בָקָ֔ר וַעֲבֻדָּ֖ה רַבָּ֑ה וַיְקַנְא֥וּ אֹת֖וֹ פְּלִשְׁתִּֽים׃

ἐγένετο δὲ αὐτῷ κτήνη προβάτων καὶ κτήνη βοῶν καὶ γεώργια πολλά. ἐζήλωσαν δὲ αὐτὸν οἱ Φυλιστιείμ ·

hábuit quoque possessiónes óvium et armentórum, et famíliæ plúrimum. Ob hoc invidéntes ei Palæstíni,

ויהי לו מקנה־צאן ומקנה בקר ועבדה רבה ויקנאו אתו פלשׁתים

For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him.

וְכָל הַ־בְּאֵרֹ֗ת אֲשֶׁ֤ר חָֽפְרוּ֙ עַבְדֵ֣י אָבִ֔יו בִּימֵ֖י אַבְרָהָ֣ם אָבִ֑יו סִתְּמ֣וּם פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים וַיְמַלְא֖וּם עָפָֽר׃
15
καὶ πάντα τὰ φρέατα ἃ ὤρυξαν οἱ παῖδες τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ χρόνῳ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ, ἐνέφραξαν αὐτὰ οἱ Φυλιστιεὶμ καὶ ἔπλησαν αὐτὰ γῆς.

omnes púteos, quos fóderant servi patris illíus Abraham, illo témpore obstruxérunt, impléntes humo:

וכל הבארות אשׁר חפרו עבדי אביו בימי אברהם אביו סתמום פלשׁתים וימלאום עפר

For all the wells which his father ’s servants had digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth.

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֲבִימֶ֖לֶךְ אֶל־יִצְחָ֑ק לֵ֚ךְ מֵֽעִמָּ֔נוּ כִּֽי־עָצַֽמְתָּ מִמֶּ֖־נּוּ מְאֹֽד׃
16
εἶπεν δὲ Ἀβιμέλεχ πρὸς Ἰσαάκ Ἄπελθε ἀφ᾽ ἡμῶν, ὅτι δυνατώτερος ἡμῶν ἐγένου σφόδρα.

in tantum, ut ipse Abímelech díceret ad Isaac: Recéde a nobis, quóniam poténtior nobis factus es valde.

ויאמר אבימלך אל־יצחק לך מעמנו כי־עצמת ממנו מאד
16
And Abimelech said unto Isaac, Go from us; for thou art much mightier than we.

וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ מִשָּׁ֖ם יִצְחָ֑ק וַיִּ֥חַן בְּנַֽחַל־גְּרָ֖ר וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב שָֽׁם׃

καὶ ἀπῆλθεν ἐκεῖθεν Ἰσαὰκ καὶ κατέλυσεν ἐν τῇ φάραγγι Γεράρων, καὶ κατῴκησεν ἐκεῖ.

Et ille discédens, ut veníret ad torréntem Geráræ, habitarétque ibi,

וילך משׁם יצחק ויחן בנחל־גרר וישׁב שׁם

And Isaac departed thence, and pitched his tent in the valley of Gerar, and dwelt there.

וַיָּ֨שָׁב יִצְחָ֜ק וַיַּחְפֹּ֣ר ׀ אֶת־בְּאֵרֹ֣ת הַמַּ֗יִם אֲשֶׁ֤ר חָֽפְרוּ֙ בִּימֵי֙ אַבְרָהָ֣ם אָבִ֔יו וַיְסַתְּמ֣וּם פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים אַחֲרֵ֖י מ֣וֹת אַבְרָהָ֑ם וַיִּקְרָ֤א לָהֶן֙ שֵׁמ֔וֹת כַּשֵּׁמֹ֕ת אֲשֶׁר־קָרָ֥א לָהֶ֖ן אָבִֽיו׃

καὶ πάλιν Ἰσαὰκ ὤρυξεν τὰ φρέατα τοῦ ὕδατος ἃ ὤρυξαν οἱ παῖδες Ἀβραὰμ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐνέφραξαν αὐτὰ οἱ Φυλιστιεὶμ μετὰ τὸ ἀποθανεῖν Ἀβραὰμ τὸν πατέρα αὐτοῦ · καὶ ἐπωνόμασεν αὐτοῖς ὀνόματα κατὰ τὰ ὀνόματα ἃ ὠνόμασεν Ἀβραὰμ ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ.

rursum fodit álios púteos, quos fóderant servi patris sui Abraham, et quos, illo mórtuo, olim obstrúxerant Philísthiim: appellavítque eos eísdem nomínibus quibus ante pater vocáverat.

וישׁב יצחק ויחפר את בארות המים אשׁר חפרו עבדי אברהם אביו ויסתמום פלשׁתים אחרי מות אברהם ויקרא להן שׁמות כשׁמות אשׁר־קרא להן אביו
18
And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.

וַיַּחְפְּר֥וּ עַבְדֵֽי־יִצְחָ֖ק בַּנָּ֑חַל וַיִּ֨מְצְאוּ־שָׁ֔ם בְּאֵ֖ר מַ֥יִם חַיִּֽים׃

ὤρυξαν δὲ οἱ παῖδες Ἰσαὰκ ἐν τῇ φάραγγι Γεράρων, καὶ εὗρον ἐκεῖ φρέαρ ὕδατος ζῶντος.

Foderúntque in Torrénte, et reperérunt aquam vivam.

ויחפרו עבדי־יצחק בנחל וימצאו־שׁם באר מים חיים
19
And Isaac ’s servants digged in the valley, and found there a well of springing water.

וַיָּרִ֜יבוּ רֹעֵ֣י גְרָ֗ר עִם־רֹעֵ֥י יִצְחָ֛ק לֵאמֹ֖ר לָ֣נוּ הַמָּ֑יִם וַיִּקְרָ֤א שֵֽׁם הַ־בְּאֵר֙ עֵ֔שֶׂק כִּ֥י הִֽתְעַשְּׂק֖וּ עִמּֽוֹ׃
20
καὶ ἐμαχέσαντο οἱ ποιμένες Γεράρων μετὰ τῶν ποιμένων Ἰσαάκ, φάσκοντες αὐτῶν εἶναι τὸ ὕδωρ · καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ φρέατος ἐκείνου Ἀδικία · ἠδίκησαν γὰρ αὐτόν.

Sed et ibi iúrgium fuit pastórum Geráræ advérsus pastóres Isaac, dicéntium: Nostra est aqua: quam ob rem nomen pútei ex eo, quod accíderat, vocávit Calúmniam.

ויריבו רעי גרר עם־רעי יצחק לאמר לנו המים ויקרא שׁם הבאר עשׂק כי התעשׂקו עמו
20
And the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac ’s herdmen, saying, The water [is] ours: and he called the name of the well Esek; because they strove with him.

וַֽיַּחְפְּרוּ֙ בְּאֵ֣ר אַחֶ֔רֶת וַיָּרִ֖יבוּ גַּם עָלֶ֑י־הָ וַיִּקְרָ֥א שְׁמָ֖הּ שִׂטְנָֽה׃
21
ἀπάρας δὲ Ἰσαὰκ ἐκεῖθεν ὤρυξεν φρέαρ ἕτερον · ἐκρίνοντο δὲ καὶ περὶ ἐκείνου, καὶ ἐπωνόμασεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ἐχθρία.

Fodérunt autem et álium: et pro illo quoque rixáti sunt, appellavítque eum Inimicítias.

ויחפרו באר אחרת ויריבו גם עליה ויקרא שׁמה שׂטנה

And they digged another well, and strove for that also: and he called the name of it Sitnah.

וַיַּעְתֵּ֣ק מִשָּׁ֗ם וַיַּחְפֹּר֙ בְּאֵ֣ר אַחֶ֔רֶת וְלֹ֥א רָב֖וּ עָלֶ֑יהָ וַיִּקְרָ֤א שְׁמָהּ֙ רְחֹב֔וֹת וַיֹּ֗אמֶר כִּֽי־עַתָּ֞ה הִרְחִ֧יב יְהוָ֛ה לָ֖נוּ וּפָרִ֥ינוּ בָאָֽרֶץ׃

ἀπάρας δὲ ἐκεῖθεν ὤρυξεν φρέαρ ἕτερον, καὶ οὐκ ἐμαχέσαντο περὶ αὐτοῦ · καὶ ἐπωνόμασεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Εὐρυχωρία, λέγων Διότι νῦν ἐπλάτυνεν Κύριος ἡμῖν καὶ ηὔξησεν ἡμᾶς ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς.
