וַיַּ֣רְא יַעֲקֹ֔ב כִּ֥י יֶשׁ־שֶׁ֖בֶר בְּמִצְרָ֑יִם וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יַעֲקֹב֙ לְבָנָ֔יו לָ֖מָּה תִּתְרָאֽוּ׃

Ἰδὼν δὲ Ἰακὼβ ὅτι ἐστὶν πρᾶσις ἐν Αἰγύπτῳ εἶπεν τοῖς υἱοῖς αὐτοῦ Ἵνα τί ῥᾳθυμεῖτε;

Audiens autem Iacob quod aliménta venderéntur in Ægýpto, dixit fíliis suis: Quare neglígitis?

וירא יעקב כי ישׁ־שׁבר במצרים ויאמר יעקב אל בניו למה תתיראו

Now when Jacob saw that there was corn in Egypt, Jacob said unto his sons, Why do ye look one upon another?

וַיֹּ֕אמֶר הִנֵּ֣ה שָׁמַ֔עְתִּי כִּ֥י יֶשׁ־שֶׁ֖בֶר בְּמִצְרָ֑יִם רְדוּ שָׁ֨מָּ־ה֙ וְשִׁבְרוּ לָ֣־נוּ מִשָּׁ֔ם וְנִחְיֶ֖ה וְלֹ֥א נָמֽוּת׃

ἰδοὺ ἀκήκοα ὅτι ἐστὶν σῖτος ἐν Αἰγύπτῳ · κατάβητε ἐκεῖ καὶ πρίασθε ἡμῖν μικρὰ βρώματα, ἵνα ζῶμεν καὶ μὴ ἀποθάνωμεν.

Audívi quod tríticum venumdétur in Ægýpto: descéndite, et émite nobis necessária, ut possímus vívere, et non consumámur inópia.

ויאמר הנה שׁמעתי כי ישׁ־שׁבר במצרים רדו שׁם ושׁברו לנו משׁם ונחיה ולא נמות

And he said, Behold, I have heard that there is corn in Egypt: get you down thither, and buy for us from thence; that we may live, and not die.

וַיֵּרְד֥וּ אֲחֵֽי־יוֹסֵ֖ף עֲשָׂרָ֑ה לִשְׁבֹּ֥ר בָּ֖ר מִמִּצְרָֽיִם׃

κατέβησαν δὲ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ Ἰωσὴφ οἱ δέκα πρίασθαι σῖτον ἐξ Αἰγύπτου ·

Descendéntes ígitur fratres Ioseph decem, ut émerent fruménta in Ægýpto,

וירדו אחי־יוסף עשׂרה לשׁבר בר ממצרים

And Joseph ’s ten brethren went down to buy corn in Egypt.

וְאֶת־בִּנְיָמִין֙ אֲחִ֣י יוֹסֵ֔ף לֹא־שָׁלַ֥ח יַעֲקֹ֖ב אֶת אֶחָ֑י־ו כִּ֣י אָמַ֔ר פֶּן יִקְרָאֶ֖־נּוּ אָסֽוֹן׃

τὸν δὲ Βενιαμεὶν τὸν ἀδελφὸν Ἰωσὴφ οὐκ ἀπέστειλεν μετὰ τῶν ἀδελφῶν αὐτοῦ · εἶπεν γάρ Μή ποτε συμβῇ αὐτῷ μαλακία.

Béniamin domi reténto a Iacob, qui díxerat frátribus eius: Ne forte in itínere quidquam patiátur mali:

ואת בנימים אחי יוסף לא־שׁלח יעקב את אחיו כי אמר פן יקראנו אסון

But Benjamin, Joseph ’s brother, Jacob sent not with his brethren; for he said, Lest peradventure mischief befall him.

וַיָּבֹ֨אוּ֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לִשְׁבֹּ֖ר בְּת֣וֹךְ הַבָּאִ֑ים כִּֽי־הָיָ֥ה הָרָעָ֖ב בְּאֶ֥רֶץ כְּנָֽעַן׃

ἦλθον δὲ οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ ἀγοράζειν μετὰ τῶν ἐρχομένων · ἦν γὰρ ὁ λιμὸς ἐν γῇ Χανάαν.

ingréssi sunt terram Ægýpti cum áliis qui pergébant ad eméndum. Erat autem fames in terra Chánaan.

ויבאו בני ישׂראל לשׁבר בתוך הבאים כי־היה הרעב בארץ כנען
5
And the sons of Israel came to buy [corn] among those that came: for the famine was in the land of Canaan.

וְיוֹסֵ֗ף ה֚וּא הַשַּׁלִּ֣יט עַל הָ־אָ֔רֶץ ה֥וּא הַמַּשְׁבִּ֖יר לְכָל־עַ֣ם הָאָ֑רֶץ וַיָּבֹ֨אוּ֙ אֲחֵ֣י יוֹסֵ֔ף וַיִּשְׁתַּֽחֲווּ ל֥־וֹ אַפַּ֖יִם אָֽרְצָה׃

Ἰωσὴφ δὲ ἦν ἄρχων τῆς γῆς, οὗτος ἐπώλει παντὶ τῷ λαῷ τῆς γῆς · ἐλθόντες δὲ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ Ἰωσὴφ προσεκύνησαν αὐτῷ ἐπὶ πρόσωπον ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν.

Et Ioseph erat princeps in terra Ægýpti, atque ad eius nutum fruménta pópulis vendebántur. Cumque adorássent eum fratres sui,

ויוסף הוא השׁליט על הארץ והוא המשׁביר לכל־עם הארץ ויבאו אחי יוסף וישׁתחוו לו אפים ארצה

And Joseph [was] the governor over the land, [and] he [it was] that sold to all the people of the land: and Joseph ’s brethren came, and bowed down themselves before him [with] their faces to the earth.

וַיַּ֥רְא יוֹסֵ֛ף אֶת אֶחָ֖י־ו וַיַּכִּרֵ֑ם וַיִּתְנַכֵּ֨ר אֲלֵיהֶ֜ם וַיְדַבֵּ֧ר אִתָּ֣ם קָשׁ֗וֹת וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֲלֵהֶם֙ מֵאַ֣יִן בָּאתֶ֔ם וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ מֵאֶ֥רֶץ כְּנַ֖עַן לִשְׁבָּר־אֹֽכֶל׃

ἰδὼν δὲ Ἰωσὴφ τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτοῦ ἐπέγνω, καὶ ἠλλοτριοῦτο ἀπ᾽ αὐτῶν καὶ ἐλάλησεν αὐτοῖς σκληρὰ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Πόθεν ἥκατε; οἱ δὲ εἶπαν Ἐκ γῆς Χανάαν ἀγοράσαι βρώματα.

et agnovísset eos, quasi ad aliénos dúrius loquebátur, intérrogans eos: Unde venístis? Qui respondérunt: De terra Chánaan, ut emámus víctui necessária.

וירא יוסף את אחיו ויכרם ויתנכר אליהם וידבר אתם קשׁות ויאמר אליהם מאין באתם ויאמרו מארץ כנען לשׁבר־אכל
7
And Joseph saw his brethren, and he knew them, but made himself strange unto them, and spake roughly unto them; and he said unto them, Whence come ye? And they said, From the land of Canaan to buy food.

וַיַּכֵּ֥ר יוֹסֵ֖ף אֶת אֶחָ֑י־ו וְהֵ֖ם לֹ֥א הִכִּרֻֽהוּ׃

ἐπέγνω δὲ Ἰωσὴφ τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτοῦ, αὐτοὶ δὲ οὐκ ἐπέγνωσαν αὐτόν ·

Et tamen fratres ipse cognóscens, non est cógnitus ab eis.

ויכר יוסף את אחיו והם לא הכרהו

And Joseph knew his brethren, but they knew not him.

וַיִּזְכֹּ֣ר יוֹסֵ֔ף אֵ֚ת הַחֲלֹמ֔וֹת אֲשֶׁ֥ר חָלַ֖ם לָהֶ֑ם וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֲלֵהֶם֙ מְרַגְּלִ֣ים אַתֶּ֔ם לִרְא֛וֹת אֶת־עֶרְוַ֥ת הָאָ֖רֶץ בָּאתֶֽם׃

καὶ ἐμνήσθη Ἰωσὴφ τῶν ἐνυπνίων ὧν ἴδεν αὐτός. καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Κατάσκοποί ἐστε, κατανοῆσαι τὰ ἴχνη τῆς χώρας ἥκατε.

Recordatúsque somniórum, quæ aliquándo víderat, ait ad eos: Exploratóres estis: ut videátis infirmióra terræ venístis.

ויזכר יוסף את החלמות אשׁר חלם להם ויאמר אליהם מרגלים אתם לראות את־ערות הארץ באתם

And Joseph remembered the dreams which he dreamed of them, and said unto them, Ye [are] spies; to see the nakedness of the land ye are come.

וַיֹּאמְר֥וּ אֵלָ֖יו לֹ֣א אֲדֹנִ֑י וַעֲבָדֶ֥יךָ בָּ֖אוּ לִשְׁבָּר־אֹֽכֶל׃

οἱ δὲ εἶπαν Οὐχί, κύριε · οἱ παῖδές σου ἤλθομεν πριάσασθαι βρώματα ·
10
Qui dixérunt: Non est ita, dómine, sed servi tui venérunt ut émerent cibos.

ויאמרו אליו לא אדני ועבדיך באו לשׁבר־אכל
10
And they said unto him, Nay, my lord, but to buy food are thy servants come.

כֻּלָּ֕נוּ בְּנֵ֥י אִישׁ־אֶחָ֖ד נָ֑חְנוּ כֵּנִ֣ים אֲנַ֔חְנוּ לֹא־הָי֥וּ עֲבָדֶ֖יךָ מְרַגְּלִֽים׃
11
πάντες ἐσμὲν υἱοὶ ἑνὸς ἀνθρώπου · εἰρηνικοί ἐσμεν, οὐκ εἰσὶν οἱ παῖδές σου κατάσκοποι.

Omnes fílii uníus viri sumus: pacífici venímus, nec quidquam fámuli tui machinántur mali.

כלנו בני אישׁ־אחד אנחנו כנים אנחנו לא־היו עבדיך מרגלים

We [are] all one man ’s sons; we [are] true [men], thy servants are no spies.

וַיֹּ֖אמֶר אֲלֵהֶ֑ם לֹ֕א כִּֽי־עֶרְוַ֥ת הָאָ֖רֶץ בָּאתֶ֥ם לִרְאֽוֹת׃

εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς Οὐχί, ἀλλὰ τὰ ἴχνη τῆς γῆς ἤλθατε ἰδεῖν.

Quibus ille respóndit: Aliter est: immuníta terræ huius consideráre venístis.

ויאמר אליהם לא כי־ערות הארץ באתם לראות
12
And he said unto them, Nay, but to see the nakedness of the land ye are come.

וַיֹּאמְר֗וּ שְׁנֵ֣ים עָשָׂר֩ עֲבָדֶ֨יךָ אַחִ֧ים ׀ אֲנַ֛חְנוּ בְּנֵ֥י אִישׁ־אֶחָ֖ד בְּאֶ֣רֶץ כְּנָ֑עַן וְהִנֵּ֨ה הַקָּטֹ֤ן אֶת אָבִ֨י־נוּ֙ הַיּ֔וֹם וְהָאֶחָ֖ד אֵינֶֽנּוּ׃
13
οἱ δὲ εἶπαν Δώδεκά ἐσμεν οἱ παῖδές σου ἀδελφοὶ ἐν γῇ Χανάαν · καὶ ἰδοὺ ὁ νεώτερος μετὰ τοῦ πατρὸς ἡμῶν σήμερον, ὁ δὲ ἕτερος οὐχ ὑπάρχει.

At illi: Duódecim, ínquiunt, servi tui, fratres sumus, fílii viri uníus in terra Chánaan: mínimus cum patre nostro est, álius non est super.

ויאמרו שׁנים עשׂר עבדיך אחים אנחנו בני אישׁ־אחד בארץ כנען והנה הקטן את אבינו היום והאחד איננו
13
And they said, Thy servants [are] twelve brethren, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan; and, behold, the youngest [is] this day with our father, and one [is] not.

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֲלֵהֶ֖ם יוֹסֵ֑ף ה֗וּא אֲשֶׁ֨ר דִּבַּ֧רְתִּי אֲלֵכֶ֛ם לֵאמֹ֖ר מְרַגְּלִ֥ים אַתֶּֽם׃
14
εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς Ἰωσήφ Τοῦτό ἐστιν ὃ εἴρηκα ὑμῖν λέγων ὅτι κατάσκοποί ἐστε ·

Hoc est, ait, quod locútus sum: exploratóres estis.

ויאמר אליהם יוסף הוא אשׁר דברתי אליכם לאמר מרגלים אתם

And Joseph said unto them, That [is it] that I spake unto you, saying, Ye [are] spies:

בְּזֹ֖את תִּבָּחֵ֑נוּ חֵ֤י פַרְעֹה֙ אִם־תֵּצְא֣וּ מִזֶּ֔ה כִּ֧י אִם בְּ־ב֛וֹא אֲחִיכֶ֥ם הַקָּטֹ֖ן הֵֽנָּה׃
15
ἐν τούτῳ φανεῖσθε · νὴ τὴν ὑγίαν Φαραώ, οὐ μὴ ἐξέλθητε ἐντεῦθεν ἐὰν μὴ ὁ ἀδελφὸς ὑμῶν ὁ νεώτερος ἔλθῃ ὧδε.
15
Iam nunc experiméntum vestri cápiam: per salútem Pharaónis non egrediémini hinc, donec véniat frater vester mínimus.

בזאת תבחנו חי פרעה אם־תצאו מזה כי אם בבוא אחיכם הקטן הנה
15
Hereby ye shall be proved: By the life of Pharaoh ye shall not go forth hence, except your youngest brother come hither.

שִׁלְח֨וּ מִכֶּ֣ם אֶחָד֮ וְיִקַּ֣ח אֶת אֲחִי־כֶם֒ וְאַתֶּם֙ הֵאָ֣סְר֔וּ וְיִבָּֽחֲנוּ֙ דִּבְרֵיכֶ֔ם הַֽאֱמֶ֖ת אִתְּכֶ֑ם וְאִם־לֹ֕א חֵ֣י פַרְעֹ֔ה כִּ֥י מְרַגְּלִ֖ים אַתֶּֽם׃

ἀποστείλατε ἐξ ὑμῶν ἕνα, καὶ λάβετε τὸν ἀδελφὸν ὑμῶν · ὑμεῖς δὲ ἀπάχθητε ἕως τοῦ φανερὰ γενέσθαι τὰ ῥήματα ὑμῶν, εἰ ἀληθεύετε ἢ οὔ · εἰ δὲ μή, νὴ τὴν ὑγίαν Φαραώ, εἰ μὴν κατάσκοποί ἐστε.

Míttite ex vobis unum, et addúcat eum: vos autem éritis in vínculis, donec probéntur quæ dixístis utrum vera an falsa sint: alióquin per salútem Pharaónis exploratóres estis.

שׁלחו מכם אחד ויקח את אחיכם ואתם האסרו ויבחנו דבריכם האמת אתכם ואם־לא חי פרעה כי מרגלים אתם ויאמרו לא יוכל הנער לעזב את אביו ועזב את אביו ומת

Send one of you, and let him fetch your brother, and ye shall be kept in prison, that your words may be proved, whether [there be any] truth in you: or else by the life of Pharaoh surely ye [are] spies.

εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ τρίτῃ Τοῦτο ποιήσατε, καὶ ζήσεσθε · τὸν θεὸν γὰρ ἐγὼ φοβοῦμαι ·

Die autem tértio edúctis de cárcere, ait: Fácite quæ dixi, et vivétis: Deum enim tímeo.

ויאמר אליהם יוסף ביום השׁלישׁי זאת עשׂו וחיו את האלהים אני ירא

And Joseph said unto them the third day, This do, and live; [for] I fear God:

אִם־כֵּנִ֣ים אַתֶּ֔ם אֲחִיכֶ֣ם אֶחָ֔ד יֵאָסֵ֖ר בְּבֵ֣ית מִשְׁמַרְכֶ֑ם וְאַתֶּם֙ לְכ֣וּ הָבִ֔יאוּ שֶׁ֖בֶר רַעֲב֥וֹן בָּתֵּיכֶֽם׃

εἰ εἰρηνικοί ἐστε, ἀδελφὸς ὑμῶν εἷς κατασχεθήτω ἐν τῇ φυλακῇ · αὐτοὶ δὲ βαδίσατε καὶ ἀπαγάγετε τὸν ἀγορασμὸν τῆς σιτοδοσίας ὑμῶν,

Si pacífici estis, frater vester unus ligétur in cárcere: vos autem abíte, et ferte fruménta quæ emístis, in domos vestras,

אם־כנים אתם אחיכם האחד יאסר בבית משׁמרכם ואתם לכו והביאו את שׁבר רעבון בתיכם
19
If ye [be] true [men], let one of your brethren be bound in the house of your prison: go ye, carry corn for the famine of your houses:

καὶ τὸν ἀδελφὸν ὑμῶν τὸν νεώτερον καταγάγετε πρὸς μέ, καὶ πιστευθήσονται τὰ ῥήματα ὑμῶν · εἰ δὲ μή, ἀποθανεῖσθε. ἐποίησαν δὲ οὕτως.

et fratrem vestrum mínimum ad me addúcite, ut possim vestros probáre sermónes, et non moriámini. Fecérunt ut díxerat,

ואת אחיכם הקטן תביאון אלי ויאמנו דבריכם ולא תמותון ויעשׂו־כן
20
But bring your youngest brother unto me; so shall your words be verified, and ye shall not die. And they did so.

וַיֹּאמְר֞וּ אִ֣ישׁ אֶל אָחִ֗י־ו אֲבָל֮ אֲשֵׁמִ֣ים ׀ אֲנַחְנוּ֮ עַל אָחִי־נוּ֒ אֲשֶׁ֨ר רָאִ֜ינוּ צָרַ֥ת נַפְשׁ֛וֹ בְּהִתְחַֽנְנ֥וֹ אֵלֵ֖ינוּ וְלֹ֣א שָׁמָ֑עְנוּ עַל־כֵּן֙ בָּ֣אָה אֵלֵ֔ינוּ הַצָּרָ֖ה הַזֹּֽאת׃
21
καὶ εἶπεν ἕκαστος πρὸς τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ Ναί, ἐν ἁμαρτίᾳ γάρ ἐσμεν περὶ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ ἡμῶν, ὅτι ὑπερίδομεν τὴν θλίψιν τῆς ψυχῆς αὐτοῦ ὅτε κατεδέετο ἡμῶν καὶ οὐκ εἰσηκούσαμεν αὐτοῦ · ἕνεκεν τούτου ἐπῆλθεν ἐφ᾽ ἡμᾶς ἡ θλίψις αὕτη.

et locúti sunt ad ínvicem: Mérito hæc pátimur, quia peccávimus in fratrem nostrum, vidéntes angústiam ánimæ illíus, dum deprecarétur nos, et non audívimus: idcírco venit super nos ista tribulátio.

ויאמרו אישׁ אל אחיו אבל אשׁמים אנחנו על אחינו אשׁר ראינו בצרת נפשׁו בהתחננו אלינו ולא שׁמענו על־כן באה עלינו כל הצרה הזאת
21
And they said one to another, We [are] verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul, when he besought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us.

וַיַּעַן֩ רְאוּבֵ֨ן אֹתָ֜ם לֵאמֹ֗ר הֲלוֹא֩ אָמַ֨רְתִּי אֲלֵיכֶ֧ם ׀ לֵאמֹ֛ר אַל־תֶּחֶטְא֥וּ בַיֶּ֖לֶד וְלֹ֣א שְׁמַעְתֶּ֑ם וְגַם דָּמ֖־וֹ הִנֵּ֥ה נִדְרָֽשׁ׃
22
ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ Ῥουβὴν εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Οὐκ ἐλάλησα ὑμῖν λέγων Μὴ ἀδικήσητε τὸ παιδάριον; καὶ οὐκ εἰσηκούσατέ μου · καὶ ἰδοὺ τὸ αἷμα αὐτοῦ ἐκζητεῖται.

E quibus unus Ruben, ait: Numquid non dixi vobis: Nolíte peccáre in púerum: et non audístis me? en sanguis eius exquíritur.

ויען ראובן אתם לאמר הלוא דברתי אליכם לאמר אל־תחטאו בילד ולא שׁמעתים וגם דמו הנה נדרשׁ
22

And he said, My son shall not go down with you; for his brother is dead, and he is left alone: if mischief befall him by the way in the which ye go, then shall ye bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to the grave.
