וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃

καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα ἐξῆρεν ὁ λαὸς ἐξ Ἁσηρώθ, καὶ παρενέβαλον ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ Φαράν.

שְׁלַח לְ־ךָ֣ אֲנָשִׁ֗ים וְיָתֻ֨רוּ֙ אֶת־אֶ֣רֶץ כְּנַ֔עַן אֲשֶׁר־אֲנִ֥י נֹתֵ֖ן לִבְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אִ֣ישׁ אֶחָד֩ אִ֨ישׁ אֶחָ֜ד לְמַטֵּ֤ה אֲבֹתָיו֙ תִּשְׁלָ֔חוּ כֹּ֖ל נָשִׂ֥יא בָהֶֽם׃

Καὶ ἐλάλησεν Κύριος πρός Μωυσῆν λέγων

Mitte viros, qui consíderent terram Chánaan, quam datúrus sum fíliis Israel, síngulos de síngulis tríbubus, ex princípibus.

שׁלח לך אנשׁים ויתורו את־ארץ כנען אשׁר־אני נתן לבני ישׂראל אישׁ אחד אישׁ אחד למטה אבתיו תשׁלח כל נשׂיא בהם

Send thou men, that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a ruler among them.

וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח אֹתָ֥ם מֹשֶׁ֛ה מִמִּדְבַּ֥ר פָּארָ֖ן עַל־פִּ֣י יְהוָ֑ה כֻּלָּ֣ם אֲנָשִׁ֔ים רָאשֵׁ֥י בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל הֵֽמָּה׃

Ἀπόστειλον σεαυτῷ ἄνδρας, καὶ κατασκεψάσθωσαν τὴν γῆν τῶν Χαναναίων, ἣν ἐγὼ δίδωμι τοῖς υἱοῖς Ἰσραὴλ εἰς κατάσχεσιν · ἄνδρα ἕνα κατὰ φυλήν, κατὰ δήμους πατριῶν αὐτῶν ἀποστείλας αὐτούς, πάντα ἀρχηγὸν ἐξ αὐτῶν.

Fecit Móyses quod Dóminus imperáverat, de desérto Pharan mittens príncipes viros, quorum ista sunt nómina.

וישׁלח אתם משׁה ממדבר פראן על־פי יהוה כלם אנשׁים ראשׁי בני־ישׂראל הם

And Moses by the commandment of the LORD sent them from the wilderness of Paran: all those men [were] heads of the children of Israel.

These [are] the names of the men which Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Oshea the son of Nun Jehoshua.

ταῦτα τὰ ὀνόματα τῶν ἀνδρῶν οὓς ἀπέστειλεν Μωυσῆς κατασκέψασθαι τὴν γῆν. καὶ ἐπωνόμασεν Μωυσῆς τὸν Αὑσὴ υἱὸν Ναυὴ Ἰησοῦν.

Misit ergo eos Móyses ad considerándam terram Chánaan, et dixit ad eos: Ascéndite per meridiánam plagam. Cumque venéritis ad montes,

וישׁלח אתם לתור את־ארץ כנען ויאמר אליהם עלו זה בנגב ועליתם את ההר
17
And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them, Get you up this [way] southward, and go up into the mountain:

καὶ ἀπέστειλεν αὐτοὺς Μωυσῆς κατασκέψασθαι τὴν γῆν Χανάαν καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς Ἀνάβητε ταύτῃ τῇ ἐρήμῳ, καὶ ἀναβήσεσθε εἰς τὸ ὄρος ·

consideráte terram, qualis sit: et pópulum qui habitátor est eius, utrum fortis sit an infírmus: si pauci número an plures:

וראיתם את הארץ מה היא ואת העם הישׁב עליה החזק או הרפא המעט הוא אם־רב
18
And see the land, what it [is]; and the people that dwelleth therein, whether they [be] strong or weak, few or many;

καὶ ὄψεσθε τὴν γῆν τίς ἐστιν, καὶ τὸν λαὸν τὸν ἐνκαθήμενον ἐπ᾽ αὐτῆς, εἰ ἰσχυρότερός ἐστιν ἢ ἀσθενής, ἢ ὀλίγοι εἰσὶν ἢ πολλοί ·

ipsa terra, bona an mala: urbes quales, murátæ an absque muris:

ומה הארץ אשׁר־הוא ישׁב בה הטובה היא אם־רעה ומה הערים אשׁר־הוא ישׁב בהן המבחנים או מבצרים

And what the land [is] that they dwell in, whether it [be] good or bad; and what cities [they be] that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strong holds;

καὶ τίς ἡ γῆ εἰς ἣν οὗτοι ἐνκάθηνται ἐπ᾽ αὐτῆς, ἢ καλή ἐστιν ἢ πονηρά · καὶ τίνες αἱ πόλεις εἰς ἃς οὗτοι κατοικοῦσιν ἐν αὐταῖς, ἢ ἐν τειχήρεσιν ἢ ἐν ἀτειχίσταις ·

humus,, pinguis an stérilis,, nemorósa an absque arbóribus.. Confortámini,, et afférte nobis de frúctibus terræ.. Erat autem tempus quando iam prǽcoquæ uvæ vesci possunt..

ומה הארץ השׁמנה היא אם־רזה הישׁ בה עץ אם־אין והתחזקתם ולקחתם מפרי הארץ והימים ימי בכורת ענבים
20
And what the land [is], whether it [be] fat or lean, whether there be wood therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time [was] the time of the firstripe grapes.

καὶ τίς ἡ γῆ, ἢ πίων ἢ παρειμένη, ἢ ἔστιν ἐν αὐτῇ δένδρα ἢ οὔ. καὶ προσκαρτερήσαντες λήμψεσθε ἀπὸ τῶν καρπῶν τῆς γῆς. καὶ αἱ ἡμέραι ἡμέραι ἔαρος, πρόδρομοι σταφυλῆς.

Cumque ascendíssent,, exploravérunt terram a desérto Sin,, usque Rohob intrántibus Emath..

וילכו ויבאו ויתורו את הארץ ממדבר־צן עד־רחב לבוא חמתה

So they went up, and searched the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, as men come to Hamath.

וַיַּעֲל֣וּ בַנֶּגֶב֮ וַיָּבֹ֣א עַד־חֶבְרוֹן֒ וְשָׁ֤ם אֲחִימַן֙ שֵׁשַׁ֣י וְתַלְמַ֔י יְלִידֵ֖י הָעֲנָ֑ק וְחֶבְר֗וֹן שֶׁ֤בַע שָׁנִים֙ נִבְנְתָ֔ה לִפְנֵ֖י צֹ֥עַן מִצְרָֽיִם׃

καὶ ἀναβάντες κατεσκέψαντο τὴν γῆν ἀπὸ τῆς ἐρήμου Σεὶν ἕως Ῥαάβ, εἰσπορευομένων Ἑφαάθ.

Ascenderúntque ad merídiem,, et venérunt in Hebron,, ubi erant Achiman et Sísai et Thólmai fílii Enac:: nam Hebron septem annis ante Tanim urbem Ægýpti cóndita est..

ויעלו בנגב ויבאו עד־חברון ושׁם אחימן שׁשׁי ותלמי ילידי ענק וחברון שׁבע שׁנים נבנתה לפני צען מצרים
22
And they ascended by the south, and came unto Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, [were]. ( Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt. )

וַיָּבֹ֜אוּ עַד־נַ֣חַל אֶשְׁכֹּ֗ל וַיִּכְרְת֨וּ מִשָּׁ֤ם זְמוֹרָה֙ וְאֶשְׁכּ֤וֹל עֲנָבִים֙ אֶחָ֔ד וַיִּשָּׂאֻ֥הוּ בַמּ֖וֹט בִּשְׁנָ֑יִם וּמִן הָ־רִמֹּנִ֖ים וּמִן הַ־תְּאֵנִֽים׃

καὶ ἀνέβησαν κατὰ τὴν ἔρημον καὶ ἦλθον ἕως Χεβρών, καὶ ἐκεῖ Ἀχειμὰν καὶ Σεσσεὶ καὶ Θελαμείν, γενεαὶ Ἐνάχ · καὶ Χεβρὼν ἑπτὰ ἔτεσιν ᾠκοδομήθη πρὸ τοῦ Τάνιν Αἰγύπτου.

Pergentésque usque ad Torréntem botri,, abscidérunt pálmitem cum uva sua,, quem portavérunt in vecte duo viri.. De malis quoque granátis et de ficis loci illíus tulérunt::

ויבאו עד־נחל אשׁכול ויכרתו משׁם זמרה ואשׁכול ענבים אחד וישׂאו במוט בשׁנים ומן הרמונים ומן התאנים
23
And they came unto the brook of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it between two upon a staff; and [they brought] of the pomegranates, and of the figs.

לַמָּק֣וֹם הַה֔וּא קָרָ֖א נַ֣חַל אֶשְׁכּ֑וֹל עַ֚ל אֹד֣וֹת הָֽאֶשְׁכּ֔וֹל אֲשֶׁר־כָּרְת֥וּ מִשָּׁ֖ם בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

καὶ ἦλθον ἕως Φάραγγος βότρυος, καὶ κατεσκέψαντο αὐτήν · καὶ ἔκοψαν ἐκεῖθεν κλήματα καὶ βότρυν σταφυλῆς ἕνα ἐπ᾽ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἦραν αὐτὸν ἐπ᾽ ἀναφορεῦσιν, καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν ῥοῶν καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν σικύων.

qui appellátus est Neheléscol,, id est Torrens botri,, eo quod botrum portássent inde fílii Israel..

למקום ההוא קראו נחל אשׁכול על אדות האשׁכול אשׁר־כרתו משׁם בני ישׂראל

The place was called the brook Eshcol, because of the cluster of grapes which the children of Israel cut down from thence.

Reversíque exploratóres terræ post quadragínta dies, omni regióne circúita,

וַיֵּלְכ֡וּ וַיָּבֹאוּ֩ אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֨ה וְאֶֽל־אַהֲרֹ֜ן וְאֶל־כָּל־עֲדַ֧ת בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל אֶל־מִדְבַּ֥ר פָּארָ֖ן קָדֵ֑שָׁה וַיָּשִׁ֨יבוּ אוֹתָ֤ם דָּבָר֙ וְאֶת־כָּל הָ֣־עֵדָ֔ה וַיַּרְא֖וּם אֶת־פְּרִ֥י הָאָֽרֶץ׃

Καὶ ἀπέστρεψαν ἐκεῖθεν κατασκεψάμενοι τὴν γῆν μετὰ τεσσεράκοντα ἡμέρας.

וילכו ויבאו אל־משׁה ואל־אהרן ואל־כל־עדת בני־ישׂראל אל־מדבר פראן קדשׁה וישׁיבו אתם דבר ואת־כל העדה ויראום את־פרי הארץ

And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and shewed them the fruit of the land.

וַיְסַפְּרוּ ל־וֹ֙ וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ בָּ֕אנוּ אֶל הָ־אָ֖רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֣ר שְׁלַחְתָּ֑נוּ וְ֠גַם זָבַ֨ת חָלָ֥ב וּדְבַ֛שׁ הִ֖וא וְזֶה פִּרְיָֽ־הּ׃

Inter hæc Caleb compéscens murmur pópuli, qui oriebátur contra Móysen, ait: Ascendámus, et possideámus terram, quóniam potérimus obtinére eam.

καὶ οἱ ἄνθρωποι οἱ συναναβάντες μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ εἶπαν Οὐκ ἀναβαίνομεν, ὅτι οὐ μὴ δυνώμεθα ἀναβῆναι πρὸς τὸ ἔθνος · ὅτι ἰσχυρότερόν ἐστιν ἡμῶν μᾶλλον.

Detraxerúntque terræ, quam inspéxerant, apud fílios Israel, dicéntes: Terra, quam lustrávimus, dévorat habitatóres suos: pópulus, quem aspéximus, procéræ statúræ est.

ויוציאו דבת הארץ אשׁר תרו אתה אל־בני ישׂראל לאמר הארץ אשׁר עברנו בה לתור אתה ארץ אכלת ישׁביה היא וכל העם אשׁר־ראינו בתוכה אנשׁי מדות

And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, [is] a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it [are] men of a great stature.

וְשָׁ֣ם רָאִ֗ינוּ אֶת הַ־נְּפִילִ֛ים בְּנֵ֥י עֲנָ֖ק מִן הַ־נְּפִלִ֑ים וַנְּהִ֤י בְעֵינֵ֨ינוּ֙ כַּֽחֲגָבִ֔ים וְכֵ֥ן הָיִ֖ינוּ בְּעֵינֵיהֶֽם׃

Ibi vídimus monstra quædam filiórum Enac de génere gigantéo: quibus comparáti, quasi locústæ videbámur.

ושׁם ראינו את הנפלים בני ענק מן הנפלים ונהיה בעינינו כחגבים וכן היינו בעיניהם וירגנו בני ישׂראל באהליהם ויאמרו בשׂנאת יהוה אתנו הוציאנו מארץ מצרים לתת אתנו ביד האמרי להשׁמידנו אנה אנחנו עלים ואחינו המיסו את לבבנו לאמר עם גדול ורב ממנו ערים גדלות ובצרות בשׁמים וגם בני ענקים ראינו שׁם ויאמר משׁה לבני ישׂראל לא תערצון ולא תיראון מהם יהוה אלהיכם ההלך לפניכם הוא ילחם לכם ככל אשׁר עשׂה אתכם במצרים לעיניכם ובמדבר אשׁר ראית אשׁר נשׂאך יהוה אלהיך כאשׁר ישׂא אישׁ את בנו בכל הדרך אשׁר הלכתם עד באכם עד המקום הזה ובדבר הזה אינכם מאמנים ביהוה אלהיכם ההלך לפניכם בדרך לתור לכם מקום להחנותכם באשׁ לילה להראותכם בדרך אשׁר תלכו בה ובענן יומם

And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, [which come] of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
