וַתִּשָּׂא֙ כָּל הָ֣־עֵדָ֔ה וַֽיִּתְּנ֖וּ אֶת קוֹלָ֑־ם וַיִּבְכּ֥וּ הָעָ֖ם בַּלַּ֥יְלָה הַהֽוּא׃
1
Καὶ ἀναλαβοῦσα πᾶσα ἡ συναγωγὴ ἐνέδωκεν φωνῇ, καὶ ἔκλαιεν ὁ λαὸς ὅλην τὴν νύκτα ἐκείνην.

Igitur vocíferans omnis turba flevit nocte illa,

ותשׂא כל העדה ויתנו את קולם ויבך העם בלילה ההוא

And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.

וַיִּלֹּ֨נוּ֙ עַל־מֹשֶׁ֣ה וְעַֽל־אַהֲרֹ֔ן כֹּ֖ל בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַֽיֹּאמְר֨וּ אֲלֵהֶ֜ם כָּל הָ־עֵדָ֗ה לוּ־מַ֨תְנוּ֙ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַ֔יִם א֛וֹ בַּמִּדְבָּ֥ר הַזֶּ֖ה לוּ־מָֽתְנוּ׃

καὶ διεγόγγυζον ἐπὶ Μωυσῆν καὶ Ἀαρὼν πάντες οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραήλ, καὶ εἶπαν πρὸς αὐτοὺς πᾶσα ἡ συναγωγή Ὄφελον ἀπεθάνομεν ἐν γῇ Αἰγύπτῳ, ἢ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ ταύτῃ εἰ ἀπεθάνομεν ·

et murmuráti sunt contra Móysen et Aaron cuncti fílii Israel, dicéntes:

וילנו על־משׁה ועל־אהרן כל בני ישׂראל ויאמרו אליהם כל העדה לו־מתנו בארץ מצרים או במדבר הזה לו־מתנו
2
And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!

וְלָמָ֣ה יְ֠הוָה מֵבִ֨יא אֹתָ֜נוּ אֶל הָ־אָ֤רֶץ הַזֹּאת֙ לִנְפֹּ֣ל בַּחֶ֔רֶב נָשֵׁ֥ינוּ וְטַפֵּ֖נוּ יִהְי֣וּ לָבַ֑ז הֲל֧וֹא ט֦וֹב לָ֖נוּ שׁ֥וּב מִצְרָֽיְמָה׃

καὶ ἵνα τί Κύριος εἰσάγει ἡμᾶς εἰς τὴν γῆν ταύτην πεσεῖν ἐν πολέμῳ? αἱ γυναῖκες ἡμῶν καὶ τὰ παιδία ἔσονται εἰς διαρπαγήν · νῦν οὖν βέλτιον ἡμῖν ἐστιν ἀποστραφῆναι εἰς Αἴγυπτον.

Utinam mórtui essémus in Ægýpto: et in hac vasta solitúdine útinam pereámus, et non indúcat nos Dóminus in terram istam, ne cadámus gládio, et uxóres ac líberi nostri ducántur captívi. Nonne mélius est revérti in Ægýptum?

ולמה יהוה מביא אתנו אל הארץ הזאת לנפל בחרב נשׁינו וטפנו יהיו לבוז הלוא טוב לנו שׁובה מצרימה

And wherefore hath the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt?

וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ אִ֣ישׁ אֶל אָחִ֑י־ו נִתְּנָ֥ה רֹ֖אשׁ וְנָשׁ֥וּבָה מִצְרָֽיְמָה׃

καὶ εἶπαν ἕτερος τῷ ἑτέρῳ Δῶμεν ἀρχηγὸν καὶ ἀποστρέψωμεν εἰς Αἴγυπτον.

Dixerúntque alter ad álterum: Constituámus nobis ducem, et revertámur in Ægýptum.

ויאמרו אישׁ אל אחיו נתן ראשׁ ונשׁוב מצרימה

And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.

וַיִּפֹּ֥ל מֹשֶׁ֛ה וְאַהֲרֹ֖ן עַל פְּנֵי־הֶ֑ם לִפְנֵ֕י כָּל־קְהַ֥ל עֲדַ֖ת בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

καὶ ἔπεσεν Μωυσῆς καὶ Ἀαρὼν ἐπὶ πρόσωπον ἐναντίον πάσης συναγωγῆς υἱῶν Ἰσραήλ.

Quo audíto, Móyses et Aaron cecidérunt proni in terram coram omni multitúdine filiórum Israel.

ויפל משׁה ואהרן על פניהם לפני כל־קהל עדת בני ישׂראל

Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.

וִיהוֹשֻׁ֣עַ בִּן־נ֗וּן וְכָלֵב֙ בֶּן־יְפֻנֶּ֔ה מִן הַ־תָּרִ֖ים אֶת הָ־אָ֑רֶץ קָרְע֖וּ בִּגְדֵיהֶֽם׃

Ἰησοῦς δὲ ὁ τοῦ Ναυὴ καὶ Χαλὲβ ὁ τοῦ Ἰεφοννὴ τῶν κατασκεψαμένων τὴν γῆν διέρρηξαν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτῶν,

At vero Iósue fílius Nun, et Caleb fílius Iéphone, qui et ipsi lustráverant terram, scidérunt vestiménta sua,

ויהושׁע בן־נון וכלב בן־יפנה מן האתורים את הארץ קרעו בגדיהם

And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, [which were] of them that searched the land, rent their clothes:

וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ אֶל־כָּל־עֲדַ֥ת בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לֵאמֹ֑ר הָאָ֗רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֨ר עָבַ֤רְנוּ בָהּ֙ לָת֣וּר אֹתָ֔הּ טוֹבָ֥ה הָאָ֖רֶץ מְאֹ֥ד מְאֹֽד׃

καὶ εἶπαν πρὸς πᾶσαν συναγωγὴν υἱῶν Ἰσραὴλ λέγοντες Ἡ γῆ, ἣν κατεσκεψάμεθα αὐτήν, ἀγαθή ἐστιν σφόδρα σφόδρα ·

et ad omnem multitúdinem filiórum Israel locúti sunt: Terra, quam circuívimus, valde bona est.

ויאמרו אל־כל־עדת בני־ישׂראל לאמר הארץ אשׁר עברנו בה לתור אתה טובה הארץ מאד מאד

And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, [is] an exceeding good land.

אִם־חָפֵ֥ץ בָּ֨נוּ֙ יְהוָ֔ה וְהֵבִ֤יא אֹתָ֨נוּ֙ אֶל הָ־אָ֣רֶץ הַזֹּ֔את וּנְתָנָ֖הּ לָ֑נוּ אֶ֕רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־הִ֛וא זָבַ֥ת חָלָ֖ב וּדְבָֽשׁ׃
8
εἰ αἱρετίζει ἡμᾶς Κύριος, εἰσάξει ἡμᾶς εἰς τὴν γῆν ταύτην καὶ δώσει αὐτὴν ἡμῖν, γῆ ἥτις ἐστὶν ῥέουσα γάλα καὶ μέλι.

Si propítius fúerit Dóminus, indúcet nos in eam, et tradet humum lacte et melle manántem.

אם־חפץ בנו יהוה והביא אתנו אל הארץ הזאת ונתנה לנו ארץ אשׁר היא זבת חלב ודבשׁ

If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.

אַ֣ךְ בַּֽיהוָה֮ אַל־תִּמְרֹדוּ֒ וְאַתֶּ֗ם אַל־תִּֽירְאוּ֙ אֶת־עַ֣ם הָאָ֔רֶץ כִּ֥י לַחְמֵ֖נוּ הֵ֑ם סָ֣ר צִלָּ֧ם מֵעֲלֵיהֶ֛ם וַֽיהוָ֥ה אִתָּ֖נוּ אַל תִּירָאֻֽ־ם׃
9
ἀλλὰ ἀπὸ τοῦ κυρίου μὴ ἀποστάται γίνεσθε · ὑμεῖς δὲ μὴ φοβηθῆτε τὸν λαὸν τῆς γῆς, ὅτι κατάβρωμα ἡμῖν ἐστίν · ἀφέστηκεν γὰρ ὁ καιρὸς ἀπ᾽ αὐτῶν, ὁ δὲ κύριος ἐν ἡμῖν · μὴ φοβηθῆτε αὐτούς.

Nolíte rebélles esse contra Dóminum: neque timeátis pópulum terræ huius, quia sicut panem ita eos póssumus devoráre: recéssit ab eis omne præsídium: Dóminus nobíscum est, nolíte metúere.

אך ביהוה אל־תמרדו ואתם אל־תיראו את־עם הארץ כי לחמנו הם סר צלם מעליהם ויהוה אתנו אל תיראום

Only rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they [are] bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD [is] with us: fear them not.

וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ כָּל הָ֣־עֵדָ֔ה לִרְגּ֥וֹם אֹתָ֖ם בָּאֲבָנִ֑ים וּכְב֣וֹד יְהוָ֗ה נִרְאָה֙ בְּאֹ֣הֶל מוֹעֵ֔ד אֶֽל־כָּל־בְּנֵ֖י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ פ

καὶ εἶπεν πᾶσα ἡ συναγωγὴ καταλιθοβολῆσαι αὐτούς. καὶ ἡ δόξα Κυρίου ὤφθη ἐν νεφέλῃ ἐπὶ τῆς σκηνῆς τοῦ μαρτυρίου πᾶσι τοῖς υἱοῖς Ἰσραήλ.

Cumque clamáret omnis multitúdo, et lapídibus eos vellet opprímere, appáruit glória Dómini super tectum fœ́deris cunctis fíliis Israel.

ויאמרו כל העדה לרגם אתם באבנים וכבוד יהוה נראה באהל מועד אל־כל־בני ישׂראל

But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֔ה עַד־אָ֥נָה יְנַאֲצֻ֖נִי הָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֑ה וְעַד־אָ֨נָה֙ לֹא־יַאֲמִ֣ינוּ בִ֔י בְּכֹל֙ הָֽאֹת֔וֹת אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשִׂ֖יתִי בְּקִרְבּֽוֹ׃

Καὶ εἶπεν Κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν Ἕως τίνος παροξύνει με ὁ λαὸς οὗτος? καὶ ἕως τίνος οὐ πιστεύουσίν μοι ἐν πᾶσιν τοῖς σημείοις οἷς ἐποίησα ἐν αὐτοῖς?

Et dixit Dóminus ad Móysen: Usquequo détrahet mihi pópulus iste? Quoúsque non credent mihi in ómnibus signis, quæ feci coram eis?

ויאמר יהוה אל־משׁה עד־אנה ינאצני העם הזה ועד הנה לא יאמנו בי בכל האתות אשׁר עשׂיתי בקרבו
11
And the LORD said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them?

אַכֶּ֥נּוּ בַדֶּ֖בֶר וְאוֹרִשֶׁ֑נּוּ וְאֶֽעֱשֶׂה֙ אֹֽתְךָ֔ לְגוֹי־גָּד֥וֹל וְעָצ֖וּם מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃

πατάξω αὐτοὺς θανάτῳ καὶ ἀπολῶ αὐτούς, καὶ ποιήσω σὲ καὶ τὸν οἶκον τοῦ πατρός σου εἰς ἔθνος μέγα καὶ πολὺ μᾶλλον ἢ τοῦτο.

Fériam ígitur eos pestiléntia, atque consúmam: te autem fáciam príncipem super gentem magnam, et fortiórem quam hæc est.

אכנו בדבר ואורישׁנו ואעשׂה אתך ואת בית אביך לגוי־גדול ועצום ממנו

I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר מֹשֶׁ֖ה אֶל־יְהוָ֑ה וְשָׁמְע֣וּ מִצְרַ֔יִם כִּֽי־הֶעֱלִ֧יתָ בְכֹחֲךָ֛ אֶת הָ־עָ֥ם הַזֶּ֖ה מִקִּרְבּֽוֹ׃

καὶ εἶπεν Μωυσῆς πρὸς Κύριον Καὶ ἀκούσεται Αἴγυπτος, ὅτι ἤγαγες τῇ ἰσχύι σου τὸν λαὸν τοῦτον ἐξ αὐτῶν ·

Et ait Móyses ad Dóminum: Ut áudiant Ægýptii, de quorum médio eduxísti pópulum istum,

ויאמר משׁה אל־יהוה ושׁמעו מצרים כי־העלית בכחך את העם הזה מקרבו

And Moses said unto the LORD, Then the Egyptians shall hear [it], ( for thou broughtest up this people in thy might from among them; )

וְאָמְר֗וּ אֶל־יוֹשֵׁב֮ הָאָ֣רֶץ הַזֹּאת֒ שָֽׁמְעוּ֙ כִּֽי־אַתָּ֣ה יְהוָ֔ה בְּקֶ֖רֶב הָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֑ה אֲשֶׁר־עַ֨יִן בְּעַ֜יִן נִרְאָ֣ה ׀ אַתָּ֣ה יְהוָ֗ה וַעֲנָֽנְךָ֙ עֹמֵ֣ד עֲלֵהֶ֔ם וּבְעַמֻּ֣ד עָנָ֗ן אַתָּ֨ה הֹלֵ֤ךְ לִפְנֵיהֶם֙ יוֹמָ֔ם וּבְעַמּ֥וּד אֵ֖שׁ לָֽיְלָה׃

ἀλλὰ καὶ πάντες οἱ κατοικοῦντες ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ταύτης ἀκηκόασιν ὅτι σὺ εἶ Κύριος ἐν τῷ λαῷ τούτῳ, ὅστις ὀφθαλμοῖς κατ᾽ ὀφθαλμοὺς ὀπτάζῃ, Κύριε. καὶ ἡ νεφέλη σου ἐφέστηκεν ἐπ᾽ αὐτῶν, καὶ ἐν στύλῳ νεφέλης συνπορεύῃ πρότερος αὐτῶν τὴν ἡμέραν καὶ ἐν στύλῳ πυρὸς τὴν νύκτα.

et habitatóres terræ huius, qui audiérunt quod tu Dómine in pópulo isto sis, et fácie videáris ad fáciem, et nubes tua prótegat illos, et in colúmna nubis præcédas eos per diem, et in colúmna ignis per noctem:

ואמרו אל־יושׁב הארץ הזאת שׁמעו כי־אתה יהוה בקרב העם הזה אשׁר־עין בעין נראה אתה יהוה ועננך עמד עליהם ובעמוד ענן אתה הלך לפניהם יומם ובעמוד אשׁ לילה
14
And they will tell [it] to the inhabitants of this land: [for] they have heard that thou LORD [art] among this people, that thou LORD art seen face to face, and [that] thy cloud standeth over them, and [that] thou goest before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night.

וְהֵמַתָּ֛ה אֶת הָ־עָ֥ם הַזֶּ֖ה כְּאִ֣ישׁ אֶחָ֑ד וְאָֽמְרוּ֙ הַגּוֹיִ֔ם אֲשֶׁר־שָׁמְע֥וּ אֶֽת שִׁמְעֲ־ךָ֖ לֵאמֹֽר׃
15
καὶ ἐκτρίψεις τὸν λαὸν τοῦτον ὡσεὶ ἄνθρωπον ἕνα, καὶ ἐροῦσιν τὰ ἔθνη ὅσοι ἀκηκόασιν τὸ ὄνομά σου λέγοντες
15
quod occíderis tantam multitúdinem quasi unum hóminem, et dicant:

והמת את העם הזה כאישׁ אחד ואמרו הגוים אשׁר־שׁמעו את שׁמעך לאמר

Now [if] thou shalt kill [all] this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,

מִבִּלְתִּ֞י יְכֹ֣לֶת יְהוָ֗ה לְהָבִיא֙ אֶת הָ־עָ֣ם הַזֶּ֔ה אֶל הָ־אָ֖רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־נִשְׁבַּ֣ע לָהֶ֑ם וַיִּשְׁחָטֵ֖ם בַּמִּדְבָּֽר׃
16
Παρὰ τὸ μὴ δύνασθαι Κύριον εἰσαγαγεῖν τὸν λαὸν τοῦτον εἰς τὴν γῆν ἣν ὤμοσεν αὐτοῖς, κατέστρωσεν αὐτοὺς ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ.

Non póterat introdúcere pópulum in terram, pro qua iuráverat: idcírco occídit eos in solitúdine.

מבלתי יכלת יהוה להביא את העם הזה אל הארץ אשׁר־נשׁבע להם וישׁחטם במדבר
16
Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.

וְעַתָּ֕ה יִגְדַּל־נָ֖א כֹּ֣חַ אֲדֹנָ֑י כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבַּ֖רְתָּ לֵאמֹֽר׃

καὶ νῦν ὑψωθήτω ἡ ἰσχύς σου, Κύριε, ὃν τρόπον εἶπας λέγων
17
Magnificétur ergo fortitúdo Dómini sicut iurásti, dicens:

ועתה יגדל־נא כח אדני כאשׁר דברת לאמר
17
And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,

יְהוָ֗ה אֶ֤רֶךְ אַפַּ֨יִם֙ וְרַב־חֶ֔סֶד נֹשֵׂ֥א עָוֺ֖ן וָפָ֑שַׁע וְנַקֵּה֙ לֹ֣א יְנַקֶּ֔ה פֹּקֵ֞ד עֲוֺ֤ן אָבוֹת֙ עַל־בָּנִ֔ים עַל־שִׁלֵּשִׁ֖ים וְעַל־רִבֵּעִֽים׃

Κύριος μακρόθυμος καὶ πολυέλεος καὶ ἀληθινός, ἀφαιρῶν ἀνομίας καὶ ἀδικίας καὶ ἁμαρτίας · καὶ καθαρισμῷ οὐ καθαριεῖ τὸν ἔνοχον, ἀποδιδοὺς ἁμαρτίας πατέρων ἐπὶ τέκνα ἕως τρίτης καὶ τετάρτης.

Dóminus pátiens et multæ misericórdiæ, áuferens iniquitátem et scélera, nullúmque innóxium derelínquens, qui vísitas peccáta patrum in fílios in tértiam et quartam generatiónem.

יהוה ארך אפים ורב־חסד ואמת נשׂא עון ופשׁע וחטאה ונקה לו ינקה פקד עון אבות על־בנים על שׁלישׁים ועל רביעים
18
The LORD [is] longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing [the guilty], visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth [generation].

סְלַֽח־נָ֗א לַעֲוֺ֛ן הָעָ֥ם הַזֶּ֖ה כְּגֹ֣דֶל חַסְדֶּ֑ךָ וְכַאֲשֶׁ֤ר נָשָׂ֨אתָה֙ לָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֔ה מִמִּצְרַ֖יִם וְעַד־הֵֽנָּה׃
19
ἄφες τὴν ἁμαρτίαν τῷ λαῷ τούτῳ κατὰ τὸ μέγα ἔλεός σου, καθάπερ ἵλεως αὐτοῖς ἐγένου ἀπ᾽ Αἰγύπτου ἕως τοῦ νῦν.

Dimítte, óbsecro, peccátum pópuli huius secúndum magnitúdinem misericórdiæ tuæ, sicut propítius fuísti egrediéntibus de Ægýpto usque ad locum istum.

סלח־נא לעון העם הזה כגדל חסדך וכאשׁר נשׂאת לעם הזה ממצרים ועד־הנה

Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוָ֔ה סָלַ֖חְתִּי כִּדְבָרֶֽךָ׃

καὶ εἶπεν Κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν Ἵλεως αὐτοῖς εἰμὶ κατὰ τὸ ῥῆμά σου ·
20
Dixítque Dóminus: Dimísi iuxta verbum tuum.

ויאמר יהוה סלחתי כדבריך
20
And the LORD said, I have pardoned according to thy word:

וְאוּלָ֖ם חַי־אָ֑נִי וְיִמָּלֵ֥א כְבוֹד־יְהוָ֖ה אֶת־כָּל הָ־אָֽרֶץ׃

ἀλλὰ ζῶ ἐγὼ καὶ ζῶν τὸ ὄνομά μου, καὶ ἐμπλήσει ἡ δόξα Κυρίου πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν.

Vivo ego: et implébitur glória Dómini univérsa terra.
21
ואולם חי־אני וימלא כבוד־יהוה את־כל הארץ

But [as] truly [as] I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.

כִּ֣י כָל הָ־אֲנָשִׁ֗ים הָרֹאִ֤ים אֶת כְּבֹדִ־י֙ וְאֶת אֹ֣תֹתַ֔־י אֲשֶׁר־עָשִׂ֥יתִי בְמִצְרַ֖יִם וּבַמִּדְבָּ֑ר וַיְנַסּ֣וּ אֹתִ֗י זֶ֚ה עֶ֣שֶׂר פְּעָמִ֔ים וְלֹ֥א שָׁמְע֖וּ בְּקוֹלִֽי׃

ὅτι πάντες οἱ ἄνδρες οἱ ὁρῶντες τὴν δόξαν μου καὶ τὰ σημεῖα ἃ ἐποίησα ἐν Αἰγύπτῳ καὶ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ, καὶ ἐπείρασάν με τοῦτο δέκατον καὶ οὐκ εἰσήκουσάν μου τῆς φωνῆς,
