וַיִּשְׁמַ֞ע הַכְּנַעֲנִ֤י מֶֽלֶךְ־עֲרָד֙ יֹשֵׁ֣ב הַנֶּ֔גֶב כִּ֚י בָּ֣א יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל דֶּ֖רֶךְ הָאֲתָרִ֑ים וַיִּלָּ֨חֶם֙ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיִּ֥שְׁבְּ ׀ מִמֶּ֖נּוּ שֶֽׁבִי׃

καὶ ἤκουσεν ὁ Χανανείς, βασιλεὺς Ἀράδ, ὁ κατοικῶν κατὰ τὴν ἔρημον · ἦλθεν γὰρ Ἰσραὴλ ὁδὸν Ἀθαρείν · καὶ ἐπολέμησεν πρὸς Ἰσραήλ, καὶ κατεπρονόμευσαν ἐξ αὐτῶν αἰχμαλωσίαν.

Quod cum audísset Chananǽus rex Arad, qui habitábat ad merídiem, venísse scílicet Israel per exploratórum viam, pugnávit contra illum, et victor exsístens, duxit ex eo prædam.

וישׁמע הכנעני מלך־ערד ישׁב הנגב כי בא ישׂראל דרך האתורים וילחם בישׂראל וישׁב ממנו שׁבי

And [when] king Arad the Canaanite, which dwelt in the south, heard tell that Israel came by the way of the spies; then he fought against Israel, and took [some] of them prisoners.

καὶ ηὔξατο Ἰσραὴλ εὐχὴν Κυρίῳ καὶ εἶπεν Ἐάν μοι παραδῷς τὸν λαὸν τοῦτον ὑποχείριον, ἀναθεματιῶ αὐτὸν καὶ τὰς πόλεις αὐτοῦ.

At Israel voto se Dómino óbligans, ait: Si tradíderis pópulum istum in manu mea, delébo urbes eius.

And Israel vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If thou wilt indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.

וישׁמע יהוה בקול ישׂראל ויתן את הכנעני בידו ויחרם אתם ואת עריהם ויקרא שׁם המקום חרמה

And the LORD hearkened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities: and he called the name of the place Hormah.

וַיִּסְע֞וּ מֵהֹ֤ר הָהָר֙ דֶּ֣רֶךְ יַם־ס֔וּף לִסְבֹ֖ב אֶת־אֶ֣רֶץ אֱד֑וֹם וַתִּקְצַ֥ר נֶֽפֶשׁ הָ־עָ֖ם בַּדָּֽרֶךְ׃

Καὶ ἀπάραντες ἐξ Ὣρ τοῦ ὄρους ὁδὸν ἐπὶ θάλασσαν ἐρυθρὰν περιεκύκλωσαν γῆν Ἐδώμ · καὶ ὠλιγοψύχησεν ὁ λαὸς ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ.

Profécti sunt autem et de monte Hor, per viam quæ ducit ad mare Rubrum, ut circumírent terram Edom. Et tædére cœpit pópulum itíneris ac labóris:

ויסעו מהר ההר דרך ים־סוף לסבב את־ארץ אדום ותקצר נפשׁ העם בדרך

And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.

וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר הָעָ֗ם בֵּֽאלֹהִים֮ וּבְמֹשֶׁה֒ לָמָ֤ה הֶֽעֱלִיתֻ֨נוּ֙ מִמִּצְרַ֔יִם לָמ֖וּת בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר כִּ֣י אֵ֥ין לֶ֨חֶם֙ וְאֵ֣ין מַ֔יִם וְנַפְשֵׁ֣נוּ קָ֔צָה בַּלֶּ֖חֶם הַקְּלֹקֵֽל׃

Καὶ κατελάλει ὁ λαὸς πρὸς τὸν θεὸν καὶ κατὰ Μωυσῆ λέγοντες Ἵνα τί τοῦτο ἐξήγαγες ἡμᾶς ἐξ Αἰγύπτου ἀποκτεῖναι ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ; ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν ἄρτος οὐδὲ ὕδωρ, ἡ δὲ ψυχὴ ἡμῶν προσώχθισεν ἐν τῷ ἄρτῳ τῷ διακένῳ.

וידבר העם באלהים ובמשׁה למה הוצאתנו ממצרים למות במדבר כי אין לחם ואין מים ונפשׁנו קצה בלחם הקלקל

And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for [there is] no bread, neither [is there any] water; and our soul loatheth this light bread.

καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Κύριος εἰς τὸν λαὸν τοὺς ὄφεις τοὺς θανατοῦντας, καὶ ἔδακνον τὸν λαόν; καὶ ἀπέθανεν λαὸς πολὺς τῶν υἱῶν Ἰσραήλ.

And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.

וַיָּבֹא֩ הָעָ֨ם אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֜ה וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ חָטָ֗אנוּ כִּֽי־דִבַּ֤רְנוּ בַֽיהוָה֙ וָבָ֔ךְ הִתְפַּלֵּל֙ אֶל־יְהוָ֔ה וְיָסֵ֥ר מֵעָלֵ֖ינוּ אֶת הַ־נָּחָ֑שׁ וַיִּתְפַּלֵּ֥ל מֹשֶׁ֖ה בְּעַ֥ד הָעָֽם׃

καὶ παραγενόμενος ὁ λαὸς πρὸς Μωυσῆν ἔλεγον ὅτι Ἡμάρτομεν ὅτι κατελαλήσαμεν κατὰ τοῦ κυρίου καὶ κατὰ σοῦ · εὖξαι οὖν πρὸς Κύριον, καὶ ἀφελέτω ἀφ᾽ ἡμῶν τὸν ὄφιν. καὶ ηὔξατο Μωυσῆς πρὸς Κύριον περὶ τοῦ λαοῦ.

venérunt ad Móysen, atque dixérunt: Peccávimus, quia locúti sumus contra Dóminum et te: ora ut tollat a nobis serpéntes. Oravítque Móyses pro pópulo,

ויבא העם אל־משׁה ויאמרו חטאנו כי־דברנו ביהוה ובך התפלל אל־יהוה ויסר מעלינו את הנחשׁ ויתפלל משׁה בעד העם

Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֗ה עֲשֵׂ֤ה לְךָ֙ שָׂרָ֔ף וְשִׂ֥ים אֹת֖וֹ עַל־נֵ֑ס וְהָיָה֙ כָּל הַ־נָּשׁ֔וּךְ וְרָאָ֥ה אֹת֖וֹ וָחָֽי׃

καὶ εἶπεν Κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν Ποίησον σεαυτῷ ὄφιν, καὶ θὲς αὐτὸν ἐπὶ σημείου · καὶ ἔσται ἐὰν δάκῃ ὄφις ἄνθρωπον, πᾶς ὁ δεδηγμένος ἰδὼν αὐτὸν ζήσεται.

et locútus est Dóminus ad eum: Fac serpéntem ǽneum, et pone eum pro signo: qui percússus aspéxerit eum, vivet.

ויאמר יהוה אל־משׁה עשׂה לך שׂרוף ושׂים אתו על הנס והיה כל הנשׁך וראה אתו וחי

And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.

וַיַּ֤עַשׂ מֹשֶׁה֙ נְחַ֣שׁ נְחֹ֔שֶׁת וַיְשִׂמֵ֖הוּ עַל הַ־נֵּ֑ס וְהָיָ֗ה אִם־נָשַׁ֤ךְ הַנָּחָשׁ֙ אֶת־אִ֔ישׁ וְהִבִּ֛יט אֶל־נְחַ֥שׁ הַנְּחֹ֖שֶׁת וָחָֽי׃

καὶ ἐποίησεν Μωυσῆς ὄφιν χαλκοῦν, καὶ ἔστησεν αὐτὸν ἐπὶ σημείου · καὶ ἐγένετο ὅταν ἔδακνεν ὄφις ἄνθρωπον, καὶ ἐπέβλεψεν ἐπὶ τὸν ὄφιν τὸν χαλκοῦν, καὶ ἔζη.

Fecit ergo Móyses serpéntem ǽneum, et pósuit eum pro signo: quem cum percússi aspícerent, sanabántur.

ויעשׂ משׁה נחשׁ נחשׁת וישׂמהו על הנס והיה אם־נשׁך הנחשׁ את האישׁ והביט אל־נחשׁ הנחשׁת וחי

And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.

καὶ ἐξάραντες ἐξ Ὠβώθ, καὶ παρενέβαλον ἐν Χαλγαεὶ ἐκ τοῦ πέραν, ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ ἥ ἐστιν κατὰ πρόσωπον Μωὰβ κατὰ ἀνατολὰς ἡλίου.

ἐκεῖθεν ἀπάραντες παρενέβαλον εἰς τὸ πέραν Ἀρνὼν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ, τὸ ἐξέχον ἀπὸ τῶν ὁρίων τῶν Ἀμορραίων · ἔστιν γὰρ Ἀρνὼν ὅρια Μωὰβ ἀνὰ μέσον Μωὰβ καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον τοῦ Ἀμορραίου.

Quem relinquéntes castrametáti sunt contra Arnon, quæ est in desérto, et próminet in fínibus Amorrhǽi. Síquidem Arnon términus est Moab, dívidens Moabítas et Amorrhǽos.

ויסעו מנחל זרד ויחנו בעבר ארנן אשׁר על המדבר היוצא מגבול האמרי כי ארנן גבול מואב בין מואב ובין האמרי

From thence they removed, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, which [is] in the wilderness that cometh out of the coasts of the Amorites: for Arnon [is] the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.

Wherefore it is said in the book of the wars of the LORD, What he did in the Red sea, and in the brooks of Arnon,

καὶ τοὺς χειμάρρους κατέστησεν κατοικίσαι Ἤρ, καὶ πρόσκειται τοῖς ὁρίοις Μωάβ.

καὶ ἐκεῖθεν τὸ φρέαρ · τοῦτο φρέαρ ὃ εἶπεν Κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν Συνάγαγε τὸν λαὸν, καὶ δώσω αὐτοῖς ὕδωρ πιεῖν.

And from thence [they went] to Beer: that [is] the well whereof the LORD spake unto Moses, Gather the people together, and I will give them water.

φρέαρ, ὤρυξαν αὐτὸ ἄρχοντες, ἐξελατόμησαν αὐτὸ βασιλεῖς ἐθνῶν, ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ αὐτῶν, ἐν τῷ κυριεῦσαι αὐτῶν. καὶ ἀπὸ φρέατος εἰς Μανθαναείν ·

καὶ ἀπὸ Βαμὼθ εἰς Ἰανήν, ἥ ἐστιν ἐν τῷ πεδίῳ Μωὰβ ἀπὸ κορυφῆς τοῦ λελαξευμένου, τὸ βλέπον κατὰ πρόσωπον τῆς ἐρήμου.

ומבמות הגיא אשׁר בשׂדה מואב ראשׁ הפסגה הנשׁקף על־פני הישׁמון ויאמר יהוה אל משׁה קומו סעו ועברו את נחל ארנן ראה נתתי בידך את סיחון מלך חשׁבון האמרי ואת ארצו החל רשׁ והתגר בו מלחמה היום הזה החל תת פחדך ויראתך על־פני העמים תחת כל השׁמים אשׁר ישׁמעו את שׁמעך ורגזו וחלו מפניך

And from Bamoth [in] the valley, that [is] in the country of Moab, to the top of Pisgah, which looketh toward Jeshimon.

וישׁלח ישׂראל מלאכים אל סיחון מלך האמרי דברי שׁלום לאמר

And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,

ויואמר# [יהוה אל מושה קומו סעו ועברו את נחל ארנון ראה נתתי ביד׳כה] [את ]סיח[ון מלך חשבון האמורי ואת ארצ׳ו החל רש לרשת את ארצ׳ו והתגר] [ב׳ו מ]לח##מ##ה##[ ׃ היום הזה החל תת פחד׳כה ויראת׳כה על פני העמים תחת כול] ׃

אֶעְבְּרָ֣ה בְאַרְצֶ֗ךָ לֹ֤א נִטֶּה֙ בְּשָׂדֶ֣ה וּבְכֶ֔רֶם לֹ֥א נִשְׁתֶּ֖ה מֵ֣י בְאֵ֑ר בְּדֶ֤רֶךְ הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ נֵלֵ֔ךְ עַ֥ד אֲשֶֽׁר־נַעֲבֹ֖ר גְּבֻלֶֽךָ׃
22
Παρελευσόμεθα διὰ τῆς γῆς σου · τῇ ὁδῷ πορευσόμεθα, οὐκ ἐκκλινοῦμεν οὔτε εἰς ἀγρὸν οὔτε εἰς ἀμπελῶνα, οὐ πιόμεθα ὕδωρ ἐκ φρέατός σου · ὁδῷ βασιλικῇ πορευσόμεθα ἕως παρέλθωμεν τὰ ὅριά σου.

Obsecro ut transíre mihi líceat per terram tuam: non declinábimus in agros et víneas: non bibémus aquas ex púteis: via régia gradiémur, donec transeámus términos tuos.

אעברה בארצך בדרך המלך אלך לא אסור ימין ושׂמאל לא אטה בשׂדה ובכרם אכל בכסף תשׁבירני ואכלתי ומים בכסף תתן לי ושׁתיתי רק אעברה ברגלי כאשׁר עשׂו לי בני עשׂו הישׁבים בשׂעיר והמואבים הישׁבים בער

Let me pass through thy land: we will not turn into the fields, or into the vineyards; we will not drink [of] the waters of the well: [but] we will go along by the king ’s [high] way, until we be past thy borders.

וְלֹא־נָתַ֨ן סִיחֹ֣ן אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵל֮ עֲבֹ֣ר בִּגְבֻלוֹ֒ וַיֶּאֱסֹ֨ף סִיחֹ֜ן אֶת־כָּל עַמּ֗־וֹ וַיֵּצֵ֞א לִקְרַ֤את יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ הַמִּדְבָּ֔רָה וַיָּבֹ֖א יָ֑הְצָה וַיִּלָּ֖חֶם בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

καὶ οὐκ ἔδωκεν Σηὼν τῷ Ἰσραὴλ παρελθεῖν διὰ τῶν ὁρίων αὐτοῦ · καὶ συνήγαγεν Σηὼν πάντα τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐξῆλθεν παρατάξασθαι Ἰσραὴλ εἰς τὴν ἔρημον · καὶ ἦλθεν εἰς Εἴσσα, καὶ παρετάξατο τῷ Ἰσραήλ.

Qui concédere nóluit ut transíret Israel per fines suos: quin pótius exércitu congregáto, egréssus est óbviam in desértum, et venit in Iasa, pugnavítque contra eum.

ולא־נתן סיחון את־ישׂראל עבר בגבולו ויאמר יהוה אל משׁה ראה החלתי תת לפניך את סיחון ואת ארצו החל רשׁ לרשׁת את ארצו ויאסף סיחון את־כל עמו ויצא לקראת ישׂראל המדברה ויבא יחצה וילחם בישׂראל

And Sihon would not suffer Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness: and he came to Jahaz, and fought against Israel.

וַיַּכֵּ֥הוּ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לְפִי־חָ֑רֶב וַיִּירַ֨שׁ אֶת אַרְצ֜־וֹ מֵֽאַרְנֹ֗ן עַד־יַבֹּק֙ עַד־בְּנֵ֣י עַמּ֔וֹן כִּ֣י עַ֔ז גְּב֖וּל בְּנֵ֥י עַמּֽוֹן׃
24
καὶ ἐπάταξεν αὐτὸν Ἰσραὴλ φόνῳ μαχαίρης, καὶ κατεκυρίευσαν τῆς γῆς αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ Ἀρνὼν ἕως Ἰαβόκ, ἕως υἱῶν Ἀμμάν · ὅτι Ἰαζὴρ ὅρια υἱῶν Ἀμμών ἐστιν.

A quo percússus est in ore gládii, et posséssa est terra eius ab Arnon usque Ieboc, et fílios Ammon: quia forti præsídio tenebántur términi Ammonitárum.

ויכהו ישׂראל ואת בניו ואת כל עמו לפי־חרב ויירשׁו את ארצו מארנן עד־יבק עד־בני עמון כי עז גבול בני עמון
24
And Israel smote him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from Arnon unto Jabbok, even unto the children of Ammon: for the border of the children of Ammon [was] strong.

וַיִּקַּח֙ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֵ֥ת כָּל הֶ־עָרִ֖ים הָאֵ֑לֶּה וַיֵּ֤שֶׁב יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ בְּכָל־עָרֵ֣י הָֽאֱמֹרִ֔י בְּחֶשְׁבּ֖וֹן וּבְכָל בְּנֹתֶֽי־הָ׃

καὶ ἔλαβεν Ἰσραὴλ πάσας τὰς πόλεις ταύτας · καὶ κατῴκησεν Ἰσραὴλ ἐν πάσαις ταῖς πόλεσιν τῶν Ἀμορραίων, ἐν Ἑσεβὼν καὶ ἐν πάσαις ταῖς συνκυρούσαις αὐτῇ.

Tulit ergo Israel omnes civitátes eius, et habitávit in úrbibus Amorrhǽi, in Hésebon scílicet, et vículis eius.

ויקח ישׂראל את כל הערים האלה וישׁב ישׂראל בכל־ערי האמרי בחשׁבון ובכל בנתיה

And Israel took all these cities: and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all the villages thereof.

ἔστιν γὰρ Ἑσεβών, πόλις Σηὼν τοῦ βασιλέως τῶν Ἀμορραίων ἐστιν · καὶ οὗτος ἐπολέμησεν βασιλέα Μωὰβ τὸ πρότερον, καὶ ἔλαβον πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ Ἀροὴρ ἕως Ἀρνών.

Urbs Hésebon fuit Sehon regis Amorrhǽi, qui pugnávit contra regem Moab: et tulit omnem terram, quæ ditiónis illíus fúerat usque Arnon.

For Heshbon [was] the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even unto Arnon.

διὰ τοῦτο ἐροῦσιν οἱ αἰνιγματισταί Ἔλθετε εἰς Ἑσεβών, ἵνα οἰκοδομηθῇ καὶ κατασκευασθῇ πόλις Σηών.

Οὐαί σοι, Μωάβ · ἀπώλου, λαὸς Χαμώς. ἀπεδόθησαν οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτῶν διασώζεσθαι, καὶ αἱ θυγατέρες αὐτῶν αἰχμάλωτοι, τῷ βασιλεῖ τῶν Ἀμορραίων Σηών.

Væ tibi Moab: perísti pópule Chamos. Dedit fílios eius in fugam, et fílias in captivitátem regi Amorrhæórum Sehon.

Woe to thee, Moab! thou art undone, O people of Chemosh: he hath given his sons that escaped, and his daughters, into captivity unto Sihon king of the Amorites.

וַנִּירָ֛ם אָבַ֥ד חֶשְׁבּ֖וֹן עַד־דִּיב֑וֹן וַנַּשִּׁ֣ים עַד־נֹ֔פַח אֲשֶׁ֖רׄ עַד־מֵֽידְבָֽא׃

καὶ τὸ σπέρμα αὐτῶν ἀπολεῖται, Ἑσεβὼν ἕως Δαιβών, καὶ αἱ γυναῖκες ἔτι προσεξέκαυσαν πῦρ ἐπὶ Μωάβ.

Iugum ipsórum dispériit ab Hésebon usque Dibon, lassi pervenérunt in Nophe, et usque Médaba.

ונירם אבדה חשׁבון עד־דיבון ונשׁים עד הנפח אשׁ על מידבא

We have shot at them; Heshbon is perished even unto Dibon, and we have laid them waste even unto Nophah, which [reacheth] unto Medeba.

καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Μωυσῆς κατασκέψασθαι τὴν Ἰαζήρ, καὶ κατελάβοντο αὐτὴν καὶ τὰς κώμας αὐτῆς, καὶ ἐξέβαλον τὸν Ἀμορραῖον τὸν κατοικοῦντα ἐκεῖ.

καὶ ἐπιστρέψαντες ἀνέβησαν ὁδὸν τὴν εἰς Βασάν · καὶ ἐξῆλθεν Ὢγ βασιλεὺς τῆς Βασὰν εἰς συνάντησιν αὐτοῖς, καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς αὐτοῦ εἰς πόλεμον εἰς Ἐδράειν.

וַיַּכּ֨וּ אֹת֤וֹ וְאֶת בָּנָי־ו֙ וְאֶת־כָּל עַמּ֔־וֹ עַד־בִּלְתִּ֥י הִשְׁאִֽיר ל֖־וֹ שָׂרִ֑יד וַיִּֽירְשׁ֖וּ אֶת אַרְצֽ־וֹ׃

καὶ ἐπάταξεν αὐτὸν καὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ καὶ πάντα τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ, ἕως τοῦ μὴ καταλιπεῖν αὐτοῦ ζωγρείαν · καὶ ἐκληρονόμησαν τὴν γῆν αὐτῶν.
