וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃

Καὶ ἐλάλησεν Κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν λέγων

Locutúsque est Dóminus ad Móysen, dicens:

וידבר יהוה אל־משׁה לאמר

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

נְקֹ֗ם נִקְמַת֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל מֵאֵ֖ת הַמִּדְיָנִ֑ים אַחַ֖ר תֵּאָסֵ֥ף אֶל עַמֶּֽי־ךָ׃

Ἐκδίκει τὴν ἐκδίκησιν υἱῶν Ἰσραὴλ ἐκ τῶν Μαδιανειτῶν, καὶ ἔσχατον προστεθήσῃ πρὸς τὸν λαόν σου.

Ulcíscere prius fílios Israel de Madianítis, et sic colligéris ad pópulum tuum.

נקם נקמת בני ישׂראל מאת המדינים ואחר תאסף אל עמך

Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people.

וַיְדַבֵּ֤ר מֹשֶׁה֙ אֶל הָ־עָ֣ם לֵאמֹ֔ר הֵחָלְצ֧וּ מֵאִתְּכֶ֛ם אֲנָשִׁ֖ים לַצָּבָ֑א וְיִהְיוּ֙ עַל־מִדְיָ֔ן לָתֵ֥ת נִקְמַת־יְהוָ֖ה בְּמִדְיָֽן׃

καὶ ἐλάλησεν Μωυσῆς πρὸς τὸν λαὸν λέγων Ἐξοπλίσατε ἐξ ὑμῶν ἄνδρας, παρατάξασθαι ἔναντι Κυρίου ἐπὶ Μαδιάν, ἀποδοῦναι ἐκδίκησιν παρὰ τοῦ κυρίου τῇ Μαδιάν ·

Statímque Móyses: Armáte, inquit, ex vobis viros ad pugnam, qui possint ultiónem Dómini expétere de Madianítis.

וידבר משׁה אל העם לאמר החליצו מאתכם אנשׁים לצבא ויהיו על־מדין לתת נקמת־יהוה במדין

And Moses spake unto the people, saying, Arm some of yourselves unto the war, and let them go against the Midianites, and avenge the LORD of Midian.

Of every tribe a thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the war.

וַיִּמָּֽסְרוּ֙ מֵאַלְפֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֶ֖לֶף לַמַּטֶּ֑ה שְׁנֵים־עָשָׂ֥ר אֶ֖לֶף חֲלוּצֵ֥י צָבָֽא׃

καὶ ἐξηρίθμησαν ἐκ τῶν χιλιάδων Ἰσραήλ, χιλίους ἐκ φυλῆς · ιβ᾽ χιλιάδες, ἐνωπλισμένοι εἰς παράταξιν.

Dederúntque millénos de síngulis tríbubus, id est, duódecim míllia expeditórum ad pugnam:

וימסרו מאלפי ישׂראל אלף למטה שׁנים־עשׂר אלף חלוצי צבא

So there were delivered out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of [every] tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.

וישׁלח אתם משׁה אלף למטה לצבא אתם ואת־פינחס בן־אלעזר הכהן לצבא וכלי הקדשׁ וחצצרות התרועה בידו

And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand of [every] tribe, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the holy instruments, and the trumpets to blow in his hand.

καὶ παρετάξαντο ἐπὶ Μαδιάν, καθὰ ἐνετείλατο Κύριος τῷ Μωυσῇ, καὶ ἀπέκτειναν πᾶν ἀρσενικόν ·

Cumque pugnássent contra Madianítas atque vicíssent, omnes mares occidérunt,

ויצבאו על־מדין כאשׁר צוה יהוה את־משׁה ויהרגו כל־זכר

And they warred against the Midianites, as the LORD commanded Moses; and they slew all the males.

וְאֶת־מַלְכֵ֨י מִדְיָ֜ן הָרְג֣וּ עַל חַלְלֵי־הֶ֗ם אֶת־אֱוִ֤י וְאֶת־רֶ֨קֶם֙ וְאֶת־צ֤וּר וְאֶת־חוּר֙ וְאֶת־רֶ֔בַע חֲמֵ֖שֶׁת מַלְכֵ֣י מִדְיָ֑ן וְאֵת֙ בִּלְעָ֣ם בֶּן־בְּע֔וֹר הָרְג֖וּ בֶּחָֽרֶב׃

καὶ τοὺς βασιλεῖς Μαδιὰν ἀπέκτειναν ἅμα τοῖς τραυματίαις αὐτῶν, καὶ τὸν Εὐεὶν καὶ τὸν Σοὺρ καὶ τὸν Ῥόκομ καὶ τὸν Οὓρ καὶ τὸν Ῥόβοκ, πέντε βασιλεῖς Μαδιάμ · καὶ τὸν Βαλαὰμ υἱὸν Βεὼρ ἀπέκτειναν ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ σὺν τοῖς τραυματίαις αὐτῶν.

et reges eórum Evi, et Recem, et Sur, et Hur, et Rebe, quinque príncipes gentis: Bálaam quoque fílium Beor interfecérunt gládio.

ואת־מלכי מדין הרגו על חלליהם את־אוי ואת־רקם ואת־צור ואת־חור ואת־רבע חמשׁת מלכי מדין ואת בלעם בן־בעור הרגו בחרב

And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; [namely], Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword.

וַיִּשְׁבּ֧וּ בְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל אֶת־נְשֵׁ֥י מִדְיָ֖ן וְאֶת טַפָּ֑־ם וְאֵ֨ת כָּל בְּהֶמְתָּ֧־ם וְאֶת־כָּל מִקְנֵ־הֶ֛ם וְאֶת־כָּל חֵילָ֖־ם בָּזָֽזוּ׃

καὶ ἐπρονόμευσαν τὰς γυναῖκας Μαδιάν, καὶ τὴν ἀποσκευὴν αὐτῶν καὶ τὰ κτήνη αὐτῶν καὶ πάντα τὰ ἔνκτητα αὐτῶν καὶ τὴν δύναμιν αὐτῶν ἐπρονόμευσαν ·

Ceperúntque mulíeres eórum, et párvulos, omniáque pécora, et cunctam supelléctilem: quidquid habére potúerant depopuláti sunt:

וישׁבו בני־ישׂראל את־נשׁי מדין ואת טפם ואת־כל בהמתם ואת־כל מקניהם ואת־כל חילם בזזו

And the children of Israel took [all] the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took the spoil of all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods.

וְאֵ֤ת כָּל עָרֵי־הֶם֙ בְּמ֣וֹשְׁבֹתָ֔ם וְאֵ֖ת כָּל טִֽירֹתָ֑־ם שָׂרְפ֖וּ בָּאֵֽשׁ׃

καὶ πάσας τὰς πόλεις αὐτῶν τὰς ἐν ταῖς οἰκίαις αὐτῶν καὶ τὰς ἐπαύλεις αὐτῶν ἐνέπρησαν ἐν πυρί.

ואת כל עריהם במושׁבתם ואת כל טירתם שׂרפו באשׁ

And they burnt all their cities wherein they dwelt, and all their goodly castles, with fire.

וַיִּקְחוּ֙ אֶת־כָּל הַ־שָּׁלָ֔ל וְאֵ֖ת כָּל הַ־מַּלְק֑וֹחַ בָּאָדָ֖ם וּבַבְּהֵמָֽה׃

καὶ ἔλαβον πᾶσαν τὴν προνομὴν καὶ πάντα τὰ σκῦλα αὐτῶν, ἀπὸ ἀνθρώπου ἕως κτήνους ·

Et tulérunt prædam, et univérsa quæ céperant tam ex homínibus quam ex iuméntis,

ויקחו את־כל השׁלל ואת־כל המלקח באדם ובבהמה

And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, [both] of men and of beasts.

וַיָּבִ֡אוּ אֶל־מֹשֶׁה֩ וְאֶל־אֶלְעָזָ֨ר הַכֹּהֵ֜ן וְאֶל־עֲדַ֣ת בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל אֶת הַ־שְּׁבִ֧י וְאֶת הַ־מַּלְק֛וֹחַ וְאֶת הַ־שָּׁלָ֖ל אֶל הַֽ־מַּחֲנֶ֑ה אֶל־עַֽרְבֹ֣ת מוֹאָ֔ב אֲשֶׁ֖ר עַל־יַרְדֵּ֥ן יְרֵחֽוֹ׃ ס

καὶ ἤγαγον πρὸς Μωυσῆν καὶ πρὸς Ἐλεαζὰρ τὸν ἱερέα καὶ πρὸς πάντας υἱοὺς Ἰσραὴλ τὴν αἰχμαλωσίαν καὶ τὰ σκῦλα καὶ τὴν προνομήν, εἰς τὴν παρεμβολὴν εἰς Ἀραβὼθ Μωάβ, ἥ ἐστιν ἐπὶ τοῦ Ἰορδάνου κατὰ Ἰερειχώ.

et adduxérunt ad Móysen, et Eleázarum sacerdótem, et ad omnem multitúdinem filiórum Israel: réliqua autem utensília portavérunt ad castra in campéstribus Moab iuxta Iordánem contra Iéricho.

ויביאו אל־משׁה ואל־אלעזר הכהן ואל כל עדת בני־ישׂראל את השׁבי ואת המלקח ואת השׁלל אל המחנה אל־ערבת מואב אשׁר על־ירדן יריחו

And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which [are] by Jordan [near] Jericho.

וַיֵּ֨צְא֜וּ מֹשֶׁ֨ה וְאֶלְעָזָ֧ר הַכֹּהֵ֛ן וְכָל־נְשִׂיאֵ֥י הָעֵדָ֖ה לִקְרָאתָ֑ם אֶל מִ־ח֖וּץ לַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃

Καὶ ἐξῆλθεν Μωυσῆς καὶ Ἐλεαζὰρ ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ πάντες οἱ ἄρχοντες τῆς συναγωγῆς εἰς συνάντησιν αὐτοῖς ἔξω τῆς παρεμβολῆς ·

ויצא משׁה ואלעזר הכהן וכל־נשׂיאי העדה לקראתם אל מחוץ למחנה

וַיִּקְצֹ֣ף מֹשֶׁ֔ה עַ֖ל פְּקוּדֵ֣י הֶחָ֑יִל שָׂרֵ֤י הָאֲלָפִים֙ וְשָׂרֵ֣י הַמֵּא֔וֹת הַבָּאִ֖ים מִצְּבָ֥א הַמִּלְחָמָֽה׃

καὶ ὠργίσθη Μωυσῆς ἐπὶ τοῖς ἐπισκόποις τῆς δυνάμεως, χιλιάρχοις καὶ ἑκατοντάρχοις τοῖς ἐρχομένοις ἐκ τῆς παρατάξεως τοῦ πολέμου ·

Iratúsque Móyses princípibus exércitus, tribúnis, et centuriónibus qui vénerant de bello,

ויקצף משׁה על פקדי החיל שׂרי האלפים ושׂרי המאות הבאים מצבא המלחמה

And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, [with] the captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, which came from the battle.

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֲלֵיהֶ֖ם מֹשֶׁ֑ה הַֽחִיִּיתֶ֖ם כָּל־נְקֵבָֽה׃

καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Μωυσῆς Ἵνα τί ἐζωγρήσατε πᾶν θῆλυ ·

ait: Cur féminas reservástis?

ויאמר אליהם משׁה למה החיתם כל־נקבה

And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?

הֵ֣ן הֵ֜נָּה הָי֨וּ לִבְנֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ בִּדְבַ֣ר בִּלְעָ֔ם לִמְסָר־מַ֥עַל בַּיהוָ֖ה עַל־דְּבַר־פְּע֑וֹר וַתְּהִ֥י הַמַּגֵּפָ֖ה בַּעֲדַ֥ת יְהוָֽה׃

αὗται γὰρ ἦσαν τοῖς υἱοῖς Ἰσραὴλ κατὰ τὸ ῥῆμα Βαλαὰμ τοῦ ἀποστῆσαι καὶ ὑπεριδεῖν τὸ ῥῆμα Κυρίου ἕνεκεν Φογώρ, καὶ ἐγένετο ἡ πληγὴ ἐν τῇ συναγωγῇ Κυρίου.

Nonne istæ sunt, quæ decepérunt fílios Israel ad suggestiónem Bálaam, et prævaricári vos fecérunt in Dómino super peccáto Phogor, unde et percússus est pópulus?

הנה הנה היו לבני ישׂראל בדבר בלעם למסר מעל ביהוה על־דבר־פעור ותהי המגפה בעדת יהוה

Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD.

וְעַתָּ֕ה הִרְג֥וּ כָל־זָכָ֖ר בַּטָּ֑ף וְכָל־אִשָּׁ֗ה יֹדַ֥עַת אִ֛ישׁ לְמִשְׁכַּ֥ב זָכָ֖ר הֲרֹֽגוּ׃

καὶ νῦν ἀποκτείνατε πᾶν ἀρσενικὸν ἐν πάσῃ τῇ ἀπαρτίᾳ, καὶ πᾶσαν γυναῖκα ἥτις ἔγνωκεν κοίτην ἄρσενος ἀποκτείνατε ·

Ergo cunctos interfícite quidquid est géneris masculíni, étiam in párvulis: et mulíeres, quæ novérunt viros in cóitu, iuguláte:

ועתה הרגו כל־זכר בטף וכל־אשׁה ידעת אישׁ למשׁכב זכר הרגו

Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.

וְכֹל֙ הַטַּ֣ף בַּנָּשִׁ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹא־יָדְע֖וּ מִשְׁכַּ֣ב זָכָ֑ר הַחֲי֖וּ לָכֶֽם׃

πᾶσαν τὴν ἀπαρτίαν τῶν γυναικῶν ἥτις οὐκ οἶδεν κοίτην ἄρσενος, ζωγρήσατε αὐτάς.

puéllas autem et omnes féminas vírgines reserváte vobis:

וכל הטף בנשׁים אשׁר לא־ידעו משׁכב זכר חיו לכם

But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.

וְאַתֶּ֗ם חֲנ֛וּ מִח֥וּץ לַֽמַּחֲנֶ֖ה שִׁבְעַ֣ת יָמִ֑ים כֹּל֩ הֹרֵ֨ג נֶ֜פֶשׁ וְכֹ֣ל ׀ נֹגֵ֣עַ בֶּֽחָלָ֗ל תִּֽתְחַטְּא֞וּ בַּיּ֤וֹם הַשְּׁלִישִׁי֙ וּבַיּ֣וֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔י אַתֶּ֖ם וּשְׁבִיכֶֽם׃

καὶ ὑμεῖς παρεμβάλετε ἔξω τῆς παρεμβολῆς ἑπτὰ ἡμέρας · πᾶς ὁ ἀνελών καὶ ὁ ἁπτόμενος τοῦ τετρωμένου ἁγνισθήσεται τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ τρίτῃ καὶ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ἑβδόμῃ, ὑμεῖς καὶ ἡ αἰχμαλωσία ὑμῶν ·

et manéte extra castra septem diébus. Qui occíderit hóminem, vel occísum tetígerit, lustrábitur die tértio et séptimo.

ואתם חנו לכם מחוץ למחנה שׁבעת ימים כל הרג נפשׁ וכל הנגע בחלל תתחטאו ביום השׁלישׁי וביום השׁביעי אתם ושׁביתכם

And do ye abide without the camp seven days: whosoever hath killed any person, and whosoever hath touched any slain, purify [both] yourselves and your captives on the third day, and on the seventh day.

וְכָל־בֶּ֧גֶד וְכָל־כְּלִי־ע֛וֹר וְכָל־מַעֲשֵׂ֥ה עִזִּ֖ים וְכָל־כְּלִי־עֵ֑ץ תִּתְחַטָּֽאוּ׃ ס

καὶ πᾶν περίβλημα καὶ πᾶν σκεῦος δερμάτινον καὶ πᾶσαν ἐργασίαν ἐξ αἰγίας καὶ πᾶν σκεῦος ξύλινον ἀφαγνιεῖτε.

Et de omni præda, sive vestiméntum fúerit, sive vas, et áliquid in utensília præparátum, de caprárum péllibus, et pilis, et ligno, expiábitur.

וכל־בגד וכל־כלי־עור וכל־מעשׂה עזים וכל־כלי־עץ תתחטאו ויאמר משׁה אל אלעזר הכהן אמר אל אנשׁי הצבא הבאים למלחמה זאת חקת התורה אשׁר צוה יהוה אך את הזהב ואת הכסף ואת הנחשׁת ואת הברזל ואת הבדיל ואת העופרת כל דבר אשׁר יבוא באשׁ תעבירו באשׁ וטהר אך במי נדה יתחטא וכל אשׁר לא יבוא באשׁ תעבירו במים וכבסתם בגדיכם ביום השׁביעי וטהרתם ואחר תבאו אל המחנה

And purify all [your] raiment, and all that is made of skins, and all work of goats ’ [hair], and all things made of wood.

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֶלְעָזָ֤ר הַכֹּהֵן֙ אֶל־אַנְשֵׁ֣י הַצָּבָ֔א הַבָּאִ֖ים לַמִּלְחָמָ֑ה זֹ֚את חֻקַּ֣ת הַתּוֹרָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־צִוָּ֥ה יְהוָ֖ה אֶת־מֹשֶֽׁה׃

καὶ εἶπεν Ἐλεαζὰρ ὁ ἱερεὺς πρὸς τοὺς ἄνδρας τῆς δυνάμεως τοὺς ἐρχομένους ἐκ τῆς παρατάξεως τοῦ πολέμου Τοῦτο τὸ δικαίωμα τοῦ νόμου ὃ συνέταξεν Κύριος τῷ Μωυσῇ.

Eleázar quoque sacérdos ad viros exércitus, qui pugnavérunt, sic locútus est: Hoc est præcéptum legis, quod mandávit Dóminus Móysi:

ויאמר אלעזר הכהן אל־אנשׁי הצבא הבאים למלחמה זאת חקת התורה אשׁר־צוה יהוה את־משׁה

And Eleazar the priest said unto the men of war which went to the battle, This [is] the ordinance of the law which the LORD commanded Moses;

אַ֥ךְ אֶת הַ־זָּהָ֖ב וְאֶת הַ־כָּ֑סֶף אֶֽת הַ־נְּחֹ֨שֶׁת֙ אֶת הַ־בַּרְזֶ֔ל אֶֽת הַ־בְּדִ֖יל וְאֶת הָ־עֹפָֽרֶת׃

πλὴν τοῦ χρυσίου καὶ τοῦ ἀργυρίου καὶ χαλκοῦ καὶ σιδήρου καὶ μολίβου καὶ κασσιτέρου,

aurum, et argéntum, et æs, et ferrum, et plumbum, et stannum,

אך את הזהב ואת הכסף ואת הנחשׁת ואת הברזל ואת הבדיל ואת העופרת

Only the gold, and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead,

πᾶν πρᾶγμα διελεύσεται ἐν πυρί, καὶ καθαρισθήσεται, ἀλλ᾽ ἢ τῷ ὕδατι τοῦ ἁγνισμοῦ ἁγνισθήσεται · καὶ πάντα ὅσα ἐὰν μὴ διαπορεύηται διὰ πυρός, διελεύσεται δι᾽ ὕδατος.

et omne, quod potest transíre per flammas, igne purgábitur: quidquid autem ignem non potest sustinére, aqua expiatiónis sanctificábitur:

כל־דבר אשׁר יבוא באשׁ תעבירו באשׁ וטהר אך במי נדה יתחטא וכל אשׁר לא יבוא באשׁ תעבירו במים

Every thing that may abide the fire, ye shall make [it] go through the fire, and it shall be clean: nevertheless it shall be purified with the water of separation: and all that abideth not the fire ye shall make go through the water.

And divide the prey into two parts; between them that took the war upon them, who went out to battle, and between all the congregation:

And thirty and two thousand persons in all, of women that had not known man by lying with him.

ונקריב את־קרבן יהוה אישׁ אשׁר מצא כלי־זהב אצעדה וצמיד טבעת עגיל וכומז לכפר על נפשׁתינו לפני יהוה

We have therefore brought an oblation for the LORD, what every man hath gotten, of jewels of gold, chains, and bracelets, rings, earrings, and tablets, to make an atonement for our souls before the LORD.

And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the tabernacle of the congregation, [for] a memorial for the children of Israel before the LORD.
